Create Your Day

January 25, 2010

Where do good days come from? Good mornings, naturally. ;-)

And, isn’t oatmeal the perfect way to start the day?

IMG_3971.JPG

This morning, I started my day with a warm bowl of Quaker Instant Oatmeal to which I added vanilla soy milk, raisins, agave nectar, and ground flaxseed meal. So delish!

IMG_3973.JPG

To help inspire everyone to discover the perfect oatmeal creation for their day, Quaker has developed a “CrEATe Your Day” digital application on Quakeroats.com and Facebook. Simply input information on the day ahead– whether it’s your day or a friend’s– and the application will create a custom virtual oatmeal creation and inspirational message known as an “Oatmail.” You can send the Oatmail to yourself or a friend or even share it via social networking sites.

To help encourage participation, for each Quaker oatmeal creation, Quaker will donate $1 to Share Our Strength , up to $25,000, until March 31, 2010. Go to QuakerOats.com/CreateYourDay for more info.

To participate in the Quaker Oatmeal Create Your Day program, I was compensated for writing this post regarding my Quaker experience. Quaker did not tell me what type of creations I should make nor did they require me to use any specific ingredients. My statements reflect my honest and truthful opinions and actual experience. And, I love oatmeal, so I was happy to participate!

With my oatmeal, I also ate half of a pink grapefruit and drank a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk.

While I practically bounded out of bed ready to eat breakfast, Murphy took a much more relaxed approach to the morning.

He’s definitely not a morning dog. Mondays are especially tough for him.

Question of the Day

What are your favorite oatmeal toppings? What’s the “strangest” ingredient you’ve added to your oats?

My favorite topping is definitely brown sugar, but since that’s not the healthiest I try to use just a little, combined with nuts and dried fruit.

I just finished my oats-I usually stick to lots of cinnamon, a few raisins, and a splash of soy milk.

Nothing says “cozy morning” like a big bowl of oatmeal. Especially during the winter months.
I like to put canned pumpkin in mine. Does anyone else do this?

I add a whole carrot to my oatmeal (finely shredded). It tastes great, and is a great way to sneak in one of your daily servings of veggies.

Congrats on making the top 100!

Melted cheese (sharp cheedar my fav) The sharp cheese flavor brings out the heartiness of oats…try it before you knock it.

pumpkin, milk, flaxseed, cinnamon, vanilla!!! yummy on the oats…but thinking I need to spice it up from everyone else’s ideas :)

Macadamia nut butter, Greek yogurt, agave nectar, raw cacao nibs, chia seeds and ground flax…yummmmyyy!

Cynthia (It All Changes) January 25, 2010 at 2:52 pm

My favorite way lately is a diced apple, a tbsp pumpkin butter (I stockpiled from TJ’s) and a tbsp of raw crunchy almond butter. All melty and gooey.

The weirdest thing I’ve ever put on it was hot sauce and eggs trying to make it savory since it is a blank palate. Not bad.

Your breakfast looks fab, I just started eating grapefruits again! My favorite topping has to be yogurt and tahini and strangest thing I’ve added is probably spinach! x x

Nut butter naturally! You just can’t go wrong, a little fruit and it’s oatmeal bliss. Recently I over baked a few of my molasses cookies so I tried adding them to my oats. Complete success!

Kendel January 25, 2010 at 4:08 pm

I’ve just found your blog and am already hooked! Your photos are great! As far as oatmeal goes, it depends on my mood but I can guarantee there is almond butter involved!

I don’t like oatmeal so I can’t answer this question. :( I actually wish I did but the texture of it weirds me out. :(

Every morning, I have oatmeal. And every morning I’m soooo excited about it! Raisins is a must (cook it with the oatmeal so it plumps up!) and these days I add currants. Sunflower seeds and almonds make it most days, and half a banana!

I love that you put your grapefruit in a bowl. That’s such a smart plan!

I love pie apples in my oats. I chop them up, coat them in cinnamon and sugar and bake them. They are delicious.

Helen@Fresh Fit and Ready January 26, 2010 at 6:11 am

wow congrats for making it onto the list. Reason why = your blog is great!! I’m definitely going to check out that CrEATe Your day thing, it looks brilliant. I’ve only just discovered the joys of oatmeal but I must say, honey and almonds are my favourite topping. Maybe with a bit of peanut butter!!

Reply

Ruth January 27, 2010 at 11:24 am

My favorite topping is pecans, especially when combined with cinnamon! I eat oatmeal for breakfast, and first thing in the morning is too early for weird toppings.

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather January 27, 2010 at 11:47 am

My dog Joe is sleepy and cuddly like Murphy in the mornings too. It’s soo adorable :)

I think the strangest thing I’ve added to my oats is zucchini… it wasn’t bad just might be weird to some people.
