Better All Around

January 7, 2010

Today was better all around. My hip felt better while running today, I made a better, more substantial lunch, and I finally bought a better pair of better winter boots. (Post about my boots coming tonight! ;-) )

Workout

My workout at the gym was much better than expected. The other night, after leaving the gym pissed off upset about my injuries, I wasn’t sure what to expect this morning. I started out on a slow jog on the treadmill to “test” out my hip and knee. Before I knew it, I was chugging right along– pretty much pain-free. I ended up running 3.25 miles in 31:00 minutes. I would have kept running, but I didn’t want to over-do-it. Instead, I walked on the treadmill for another 24 minutes. I started by speed-walking at a minimal incline and then slowed down my pace as I increased the incline.

24-Minute Treadmill Workout

  • 3 minutes: 4.7 (incline 1.0)
  • 3 minutes: 4.5 (incline 1.5)
  • 3 minutes: 4.3 (incline 2.0)
  • 3 minutes: 4.2 (incline 2.5)
  • 3 minutes: 4.1 (incline 3.0)
  • 3 minutes: 4.0 (incline 3.5)
  • 3 minutes: 3.9 (incline 4.0)
  • 3 minutes: 3.8 (incline 4.5)

Mid-Morning Snack

To refuel after my workout, I made myself a wheat grass smoothie of sorts.

In the mix:

  • 1 scoop of Amazing Grass
  • 1/3 water
  • 1/3 iced coffee
  • 1/3 vanilla soy milk
  • Cinnamon to taste

Lunch

After yesterday’s disastrous lunch, I made an effort to pack one that would fill me up.

I started with a ham and jalapeno cheddar cheese sandwich on a whole wheat Arnold’s Sandwich Thin.

I also had some carrots sticks.

And Oikos Greek yogurt on the side.

An all around tasty and filling meal.

I’m so glad you’re doing better! I was so sad to hear how discouraged you were about your injuries! I hope that you keep healing and getting stronger so you can enjoy your workouts without fear of pain!

Great treadmill workout — thanks for the idea. I’ve been using your strength training routines at the gym and really enjoy them, even though I have to use lighter weights than you recommend. ;)

Hi Tina, I love your blog and respect so much your perspective on life. I have followed your blog for ages, but have been a bit of a lurker… I wanted to thank you for posting the link to Winter Trails! Snowshoeing is such a great workout, but it can be intimidating to get started. So, thank you!

I’m surprised your hip doesn’t bother you when you speed walk. Our bodies are so strange huh. I will definitely be stealing your treadmill workout :)

Hooray for your hip not hurting!!! And your lunch looked protein-packed, very filling :-) I think Oikos greek yogurt and peanut butter are my main sources of protein.

Glad your hip didn’t hurt, injuries are so frustrating. I have a bad knee that acts up when I run too much or too fast. The jalepeno cheese looks good!

I’m glad your hip is feeling better! It is so frustrating to want to run only to be sidelined by pain. I’ve had hip issues in the past- so annoying! I’ve been doing yogadownload.com’s hip opening session (30 mins) here and there and it’s helped me a lot!

Snowshoeing is super fun and a GREAT workout! I JUST posted that I may do some snowshoeing tomorrow, as we’re (finally) getting some decent show here in Detroit!

Thanks for the incline workout. That will be a good change of pace. Its so bitter cold (teens, blowing snow and wind), but the indoor track is like 85 degrees. 2 miles killed me last night – so a treadmill it will be. I added on to the front and back of it to make it an even 30 minutes. Thanks again – and thanks as always for the blog!

Love pepper jack cheese as well! It is always stocked in our house, as we lot spicy stuff! I also need to try the Arnold’s wheat thins….everyone is raving about them!

I’m glad you’re feeling better :) I don’t think I’m going to get the chance to try a new snow sport, despite how cold Florida has gotten. The only snow “sport” i ever tried was sledding . . . on the college dining hall lunch trays!
