A Good Saturday

January 23, 2010

Today was an all-around GOOD Saturday!

Workout

After breakfast and apartment hunting, I hit the gym for a quickie 30-minute run on the treadmill. I didn’t have much time to exercise this afternoon, so I made sure to push myself for the entire duration. So, by the end of 30 minutes, I was winded and completely drenched in sweat. It was awesome! :-D I covered 3.35 miles in 30 minutes.

30-Minute Quickie Treadmill Run

Incline 1%

  • 00:00 – 05:00: 6.3 mph
  • 05:00 – 07:00: 6.5 mph

  • 27:00 – 29:00: 6.5 mph
  • 29:00 – 30:00: 6.3 mph

Dog Park

Once I finished my sweaty run, I showered-up, dressed, and headed to the park with Mal and Murphy to meet Dave, Marie, and their dogs for some puppy playtime.

The dogs had a blast running around at the park! :-D

IMG_3803.JPG

The humans did too! ;-)

IMG_3813.JPG

Mal and Murphy played “chase” at the park for a good 20 minutes!

IMG_3816.JPG

I’m glad that my guys got their exercise in for the day! ;-)

IMG_3823.JPG

It had a really fun day with my boys!

Snack

We left the park around Happy Hour time, so we cracked-open a bottle of Bourbon County Stout when we arrived at Dave and Marie’s house. I’m not a huge dark beer fan, but this one is delicious! It’s dark and dense with thick foam and flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. It’s a great sipping beer.

IMG_3835.JPG

I enjoyed a small pour and savored it slowly.

IMG_3851.JPG

I also munched on a few chips and dip while chatting in the kitchen with my husband and our friends.

IMG_3843.JPG

Dinner

For dinner tonight, the four of us decided to make chili. Mmm! :-)

IMG_3852.JPG

We also baked some cornbread to have with the meal.

IMG_3870.JPG

My bowl + cornbread.

IMG_3872.JPG

After dinner, we sat around and played Cribbage like the old folks that we are– actually, it’s a really fun game!

IMG_3860.JPG

Murphy passed out from exhaustion after some serious playing at the park.

IMG_3867.JPG

Like all good meals, tonight’s ended with a yummy dessert: Cookie Brownie Bars!

IMG_3875.JPG

Brownie + cookie = best of both worlds!

Of course, I just had to have one of these delectable treats, but I stopped myself before I got carried away. Usually, I’d eat a second or third bar, but just one did the trick tonight.

Heading to bed soon and sleeping LATE tomorrow morning!

Good night, blog friends!

And good job with sticking to just a small pour and one dessert. I’m sure it helped you savor them :-)

Wow, that workout sounds intense! I jogged on the treadmill for 30 minutes at 5.6-5.8 and was pretty beat by the end of it. ;)

My dog LOVES the dog park, but the one we go to is 45 minutes away, so we don’t get there as often as we’d like (plus the weather here in Chicago has been yuck). Murphy looked like he had quite the fun time!

Jessica January 24, 2010 at 12:51 am

You can not go wrong with chili & cornbread! Any beer with a caramel flavor is one that I need to try : )

oh my god those brownies look heavenly. i don’t think i have enough control to stop at 1 which is why i rarely bake in my dorm!! great workout! sometimes having not a lot of time at the gym can help with increasing intensity. i read on zenhabits that to increase speed and endurance the long runs should be at a slow pace and longer than usual and the short runs should be made faster but kept short…i’m trying to do this to see if it helps

We always make cornbread w/our chili too! Isn’t that the best combination?

I love your dog. I seriously want a pug. I’m going to have to work on hubby.

Sounds like a fun day! Your puppy is too cute.

I have a question about your “Lose the Dough” challenge. I don’t want/mean to be critical in the least – I don’t think you need to lose any weight at all! – but I was just wondering what sort of plan you have for navigating social situations. You seem to do a great job balancing, but I was rereading your tips pages, and one of them stuck out to me : be a food snob. You recommend turning down storebought snacks and saving for more “worth it” treats. I think it’s awesome that you can stop at one cookie bar, but it seems like you get the opportunity to eat so many gourmet items (like at the truffle workshop thing!) that storebought treats would be easy to pass by! Just curious! Awesome run by the way, I know it’s a great feeling to enjoy a run after you’ve been dealing with a slight injury.

That treadmill workout looks intense, but fun! I’ve found that changing my speed every minute or so not only keeps me from getting bored, but also probably mimics a “true” running pace more acurately. I don’t think our bodies naturally stay at one speed for extended amounts of time, so I bet variety is good!

Murphy is so precious!!
