Travel Headaches

Ugh. Travel headaches. :-?

Tonight, our flight to Medford was canceled due to excessive fog, which means that Mal and I are stranded in San Francisco until the morning. :-| It’s not the end of the world, but it’s been a long day of travel.

After a lot of miscommunication and confusion by the airline, we eventually, we got things sorted out and ended up on a flight to Eugene first thing tomorrow. Unfortunately, the morning flight to Medford was already booked and the next available flight isn’t until 8:00 tomorrow night, so Eugene was our best option.

So, tonight Mal and I are staying at a hotel near the airport, so we can catch our new flight bright and early in the morning. We had hoped that United would cover the cost of our hotel room, but they only offered us a rate discount. Boo.

I’m sort of obsessed with hotels, so, of course, I snapped some photos of our room. (I know I’m weird.)

Once we arrive in Eugene tomorrow, Mal and I are renting a car to drive 167 miles to Medford. We both love road trips, so maybe all of our travel troubles really aren’t so bad!

I’m exhausted from today’s travel marathon. Good night!!!

Tina, when you get a chance, you should check out United’s contract of carriage. Page 33 says they’re supposed to pay for that hotel room in full if there is a delay of more than 4 hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.: http://content.united.com/ual/asset/COC24junfinal.pdf

I think you would have a case to get a refund, if you wished. Either way, I hope you have safe travels today.

    I love hotels too…
But I’m a little confused about why the airline didn’t pay for your hotel. Isn’t it their fault you had to stay in the hotel at all? Airlines annoy me sometimes!

I got stranded once and was not happy that they didn’t cover my hotel either. But a night in a hotel was nice.

You’re right – that kind of travel IS a headache – but when you are in the blogging frame of mind it actually makes it a little better. Kind of occupies you with new ways to tell a story about what’s happening to you. Enjoy your drive from Eugene to Medford – it’s beautiful through that corridor!

Sorry you got stranded. Usually airlines won’t cover expenses if it is weather related – only if it is their fault. At least you got to stay in a hotel though. Have a nice drive.

Way to keep things on the positive side! I’ve been stranded TWICE in airports in the past year, and I know it’s no fun.

Hope you and Mal make it safe and sound :)

Contact the airline…you should have gotten a better deal than just a discount for your inconvenience!
