‘Tis the Season

I had quite the indulgent evening tonight! But, ‘tis the season, right? ;-)

Before our friend’s holiday party, Mal and I made a last-minute decision to go out to dinner, so we walked over to Salsa’s for some Mexican food.

We started with some chips and salsa. The salsa tonight was much better than my first visit to Salsa’s. It had a serious kick to it! My mouth was en fuego! Loved it! :-D

To drink, I ordered an El Presidente, which was good, but it didn’t knock my socks off. I’m starting to think that I don’t really like Mexican beers. :-?

For our entree, Mal and I both ordered the Burrito Grande. Mal ordered the steak burrito while I went with the vegetarian option in a spinach tortilla.

I loved that my burrito had actual veggies in it. Usually, when you order the vegetarian option, it’s just the burrito without the meat. Salsa’s Burrito Grande had big pieces of broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, onion, and squash in it, which was a nice surprise. On the side, the burrito was served with guacamole and sour cream. I had a little of both.

I ended up eating about half of the burrito and taking half home for leftovers.

After dinner, we headed across the city to our friend’s holiday party.

As soon as we arrived, I dug right into the Christmas cookies and a holiday beer. Typical, right? ;-)

There were so many delicious treats at the party. Like usual, I had a tough time turning them down, but ’tis the season, right? ;-)

The Chocolate Whiskey and Beer Cupcakes immediately caught my attention.

Mal and I shared one.

And then I enjoyed my own. They were just too delicious to share!

I also had a few bites of Buffalo Chicken Dip, which did not photography well. It looks nasty, but it tasted amazing! (I love buffalo sauce and cheese in a weird way.)

It’s late. Time for bed! Good night!

Presidente is actually like THE national beer of the Dominican Republic, so not quite Mexican, it was great in the DR, not sure if I would like it as much when I am not one sunny beach!

Oh yes, what would be a holiday season without some indulgence? We’ve only got a couple more weeks to live it up!! Those cupcakes look worthy that’s for sure.

I’ve found that Mexican restaurants typically have better veggie options that other types of restaurants.

Chocolate, Whiskey, and Beer cupcakes sound delectable!

Mmm, that burrito looks awesome! I hate how when you order a veggie burrito they just get rid of the meat. More places need to put actual veggies in them. The cupcakes look great too. That’s a great combo.

Have you ever tried Negra Modelo? It’s a Mexican beer, but it’s a dark, Vienna-style lager, so it’s much more “crafty” in taste with a lot of flavor. It’s one of my favorites, and I don’t typically go for lighter Mexican beers either.

Tis the season, indeed! YUM! I love that your burrito had actual veggies – around here they just take out the meat and LOAD it with cheese. I have burrito envy ;)

I know what you mean about veggie burritos usually only having tomatoes and lettuce in them! haha There’s a double decker cupcake bus that just opened right near my apartment. I’m going there today. :-)

I definitely indulge at a party or two, but I find attending multiple parties is tough without killing my diet. I’d have a tough time not eating those cupcakes, though!

Presidente is the official beer of the Dominican Republic, and I spent 3 months studying abroad there. I think light Caribbean beers are best enjoyed on a warm, sunny beach with a side of fried plaintains! :)

Presidente is my country’s beer…. the Dominican Republic… and it’s bottled and processed differently for foreign markets so it really can’t be judged unless the original is had!
