First Snowfall

December 6, 2009

It snowed last night. :-( You’d think I’d be excited about the first true snowfall of the season, but I think winter is the worst! Ick.

But, I do get to dress super stylish when I take Murphy outside:

IMG_1364.JPG

I’m actually wearing 2 hooded sweatshirts– in addition to a t-shirt, thermal shirt, a long sleeve shirt, and a fleece jacket. I’m a freak. (I can’t believe I put this photo on my blog! Oh well. It’s not like it’s the first ridiculous photo of me on the internet!)

Murphy wasn’t sure what to think about the snow this morning.

IMG_1366.JPG

Like Mom, he didn’t love it. :-?

Thankfully, Murphy got right down to business and we were back inside just a few minutes later.

For breakfast, I made a nice, warm bowl jar of oatmeal.

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • Cinnamon
  • Almond butter

I really wanted hot coffee with breakfast this morning, but I was too lazy to make a pot and the cold stuff was already made.

After breakfast, I spent about an hour catching-up with emails and blog stuff. This job never ends!

IMG_1336.JPG

Around 1:00 pm, my stomach started to grumble, but it was time to pick out our Christmas tree, so I grabbed a cashew cookie Larabar to go.

IMG_1373.JPG

On the way to the Christmas tree place, Mal and I sang along to John Denver and the Muppets in the car. It’s Mal’s absolute favorite holiday album. He knows every word to every song.

IMG_1374.JPG

IMG_1389.JPG IMG_1390.JPG

There was a sea of trees to chose from!

IMG_1375.JPG

Like every year, Mal was on a mission to find the perfect tree.

IMG_1376.JPG

IMG_1377.JPG

Luckily, he has a good eye for quality Christmas trees, so it didn’t take Mal long to find a nice one.

IMG_1378.JPG IMG_1379.JPG

Mal picked out quite a beauty of a tree! It’s nearly perfect! :-D

IMG_1384.JPG

After a quick trim off the trunk, we loaded our tree onto my car.

IMG_1383.JPG

IMG_1386.JPG

Our tree looked a lot bigger on my car than it did in the lot! It’s massive!

IMG_1388.JPG

Once we got the tree set up, I threw together a quick salad with deli ham and a scoop of pesto on top for lunch. I was starving!

IMG_1405.JPG

Mal and I have a nice little evening planned tonight: decorating our tree, listening to Christmas music, baking sugar cookies, and drinking eggnog. Can’t wait!

Haha aww! Murphy is too cute. I remember when we first got our puppy..I was so amazed when I watched her experience things for the first time like when the wind blew and she didn’t know what it was. She just looked around and looked so curious. Too cute. They really are like children! =)

Love Christmas tree day. So fun! Always gets the holiday mood going.

Enjoy your evening!

I live in Salt Lake City, and we got lots of snow yesterday and this morning. I looked just like you, all decked out in boots and warms jackets, and set out for Starbucks with my two pugs. This was our first snow day walk. They HATED it!! I felt so bad, I ended up having to carry Stewart 6 blocks home because his paws were frozen and he just kept stopping to lick the snow off. When I was holding him the poor little man was shivering pretty badly. Anyway, I am going to buy them snow boots and coats! Yes, it might be ridiculous but they have to have their walks. Murphy is adorable :) How old is he? Love your blog by the way!

@Deveree: You’re so lucky to have 2 pugs! Murphy is about 6 months old.

Murphy is too cute! It’s snowing in RI too and yesterday my parents sent their little kitten out in to the snow with a very similar reaction. They said it was so cute watching her experience snow for the first time. But, unlike Murphy, she loved it! Amelia’s a snow monster, apparently.

Sounds like a wonderful evening! Enjoy!!

aww Murphy. and yeah, i’m in CT and i’d say i’m with 99% of new england when i say the first 2 or 3 snowfalls are nice, but after that it just causes a lot of swearing, shoveling, and sliding along the roads

Kelly December 6, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I totally agree with you about the snow. I was less than thrilled shoveling this morning.

I think that I’m the only person in South Carolina who doesn’t get excited when it snows. After living in Wisconsin for a few years…I’m over it!

@Tina: I am very lucky! But, I am there adoptive Mom. If somebody told me a year ago that I would be the owner of 2 pugs I would have never believed them… Both Stewart and Doogle are almost 4, but I have only had them since July. They are my boyfriend’s dogs. He is deployed in Iraq right now so I took the pugs. They are the best ever! I am a total pug convert :) I don’t know if it is an option for you, but in my opinion having two easier than one. They keep each other company and are best friends. Lucas (my bf) got Doogle when Stewart was 4 months old.

Haha I was thinking you look WAY better than I did yesterday! I looked like a marshmallow and not like a good one!

Have fun getting ready for christmas!

What a fabulous little Sunday :)

We picked out our tree yesterday and decorated it last night while listening to Christmas music as well. Don’t you just love this season? Enjoy the cookie baking and eggnog too!

Looks like a nice christmas tree. Have fun decorating it tonight while drinking yummy eggnog and cookies.

I have to agree, I find winter to be yucky especially when taking our dog out. Love John Denver and The Muppets- my family always listened to that on vinyl while decorating our tree. Oh the memories :)

I am not a huge fan of the cold in general & agree with you on snow. It is pretty to look at for a few minutes but I could never live in it again ( I grew up in VT.)

Sounds like you have a perfect evening planned!

Oh YAY!! I’ve never actually gotten to cut down a Christmas tree but I’ve always really wanted to. Looks like so much fun. I hope Murphy enjoyed his first snow!

My old pug, Sake, wouldn’t mind the snow but my now-gone Zoe would NEVER let her toes touch wet things like that. Pugs are hilarious.

I’m like you in that I hate the winter weather. You think we’d learn to love it growing up here, but I guess if it hasn’t happened yet, it’s not going to :)
Enjoy your evening!

I don’t think you look silly, pretty sensible to me! The cold always gets to me too, I layer up even in bed! Nice to see someone else has a love for pesto too x x

Xoxo to Murph!

Sounds like a great evening! We got our tree last week, except chopped down a 12ft tree in the woods…slightly illegal, but the law < family christmas traditions ;)

Christy December 6, 2009 at 6:07 pm

The BEST part of Christmas is picking out the tree. And it makes the house smell fantastic!

finally! someone else who dislikes the winter — I thought I was a major scrooge complaining about the snow lately.. but I just hate it!

Mal definitely has a great eye – the tree looks great!

awwwh, murphy is too cute! That picture is so funny, he looks like ‘mom, I don’t think I like this stuff!’ I’m not a fan of cold winter either :( Have a great night decorating, sounds like fun :)

I, too, hate the snow … and we’re supposed to get a bunch of it in the next few days! :P

careful of murphy’s paws in salted areas!!!

My pug hates the snow too! And I completely understand the massive amount of layering…it has been so cold in St. Louis so I pile on multiple fleeces/hoodies, and wear spandex under my jeans!

I loved the overnight storm. I just wish it started earlier so I could have sat near the fire and watched it. But I do take about 3 jackets at once when it’s this cold lol.

Aw, sounds like you have a lovely evening planned. Murphy looks SO cute in the snow! I was dressed similarly to you this morning shoveling off the sidewalk — at least it helped stay a little warm. ;)

I love that album! It’s one of my holiday favorites :-)

Murphy is giving you the exact same look my dog Baxter gave me this morning when we headed out for a walk in the snow…smaller dogs just aren’t meant for cold weather! (And while we’re at it, neither am I :-) )

Love the Murphy pictures. My two pugs hate the cold, snowy weather. They are so short that it always splashes up on their underbelly. My oldest, Winston is a big fan of standing on 3 feet and looking like he forgot how to walk!

Our dogs hate the snow until we put on coats and boots. Then they frolic and roll around in the snow. Perhaps Murphy needs a coat.

OHMYGOSH! John Denver and the Muppets is one of my favorite childhood memories!! My mom had the record back in the day and about 7 years ago, I randomly found the CD at Borders. Best. Christmas. Album. Ever.
