Salsa + Pink Gloves

December 2, 2009

I woke up craving the most random food this morning: salsa! Weird. Usually, I crave sweet carbs (like oatmeal) in the morning, so salsa was really strange for me.

I honored my salsa craving and made myself a breakfast burrito with egg, cheddar cheese, and salsa, which I wrapped-up in a whole wheat tortilla.

Fantastic breakfast!

New post on Health: Find Time for Fitness

Pink Glove Dance

Have you guys seen this video yet?

A bunch of health care workers got together to made this video to feature these pink gloves. The pink gloves are intended to remind people to talk about breast cancer and some of the money from the gloves will be used to pay for mammograms for women that couldn’t afford it. Cool, right? The video cracks me up! :-D

Question of the Day

During the holiday season, how do you find time for fitness?

I usually crave sweet/carby things too. Do you think maybe it’s the combination of the sweet thing with coffee?
Whenever I go out for breakfast, I sort of find the coffee and eggs/other savory dish combo kind of weird

Morning, Tina!

You know what they say about strange cravings… ;-)

When the holidays roll around, I have a couple of strategies for fitting in fitness. First off, I make it a priority, plain and simple. If I treat it like a requirement, not an option, I won’t skip out on it. I look at my schedule to figure out times when I’ll be able to fit it in. That might mean working out in the early, early morning, but at least I know I’ll fit it in.

I also try to sneak fitness into unexpected places– instead of sitting around chatting with my sister, we’ll go for a speed walk together. Instead of just walking around the mall leisurely, I’ll be sure to really pick up the pace and hit a fast stride.

Things like that usually keep me on track during the holidays. I look forward to hearing everyone else’s tips!

Making fitness a priority during the holidays for me meals I HAVE to get it done in the mornings, even if it means getting up earlier than I’d like to! If it doesn’t happen in the morning, I will definitely find excuses to not do it later in the day! Also, the memory of how hard it is to get back into a routine usually helps keep me on track!

Anna December 2, 2009 at 9:46 am

I like to fit in family socialization with fitness- instead of all sitting around inside and chatting, we’ll go for a walk together instead.

I always make sure to get my workouts done in the morning. That way, I have no excuse!

You got ME craving salsa now! That video is hilarious!

Meg @ Be Fit Be Full December 2, 2009 at 9:56 am

Mmmm.. salsa & eggs are the best!
I usually take off the whole week of Christmas and the only way I fit in exercsie is if I get up early to do it. Even though it’s vacation and sleeping in is tempting, I feel so much better if I workout.

I just posted about how the heck I’m gonna “fit it all in” during the holiday season! I made a promise to myself to “fit in fitness”, so I’m sticking to it!

Great video!

Looove salsa and eggs and I don’t eat them nearly enough!

I focus on making fitness a priority and buddy up with my husband or mom! I love powerwalking with my mom at the mall — I get great ideas for xmas presents and get a great workout in! (even if I look like a huge dork!)

Salsa is yummy :)

Hahaha, that video is awesome! I love janitor part and where everyone is in the lab coats — too funny!!! :D And I fit working out in my holiday schedule because I want to! It puts me in a good mood plus lets me escape from any stress that I’m dealing with. It’s just always one of the 1st things I want to do!

That video was really funny! I used to work at a hospital and we did something similar.

I’m a morning exerciser so that doesn’t change around the holidays. My friend and I actually just got a $39 membership to BSC for one month so I’m excited to try some of their classes this month. I’ll be sure to get some extra exercise in!

I LOVE salsa in breakfast food!

I can’t get up as easily in the winter as I can in the summer, so I try not to stress about morning workouts. Instead, I’ll make sure my bags are packed so that I can go straight to the gym after work. It helps that my gym is literally 5 minutes before my house, on the same street! No excuses :)

Your breakfast burrito looks a whole lot better than the waffle sandwich I ate this morning. I may need to make a trip to the store just for some eggs! Have a good day.

The video is cute.
I work out in the morning so I don’t really need to make time for fitness during the holidays. Morning workouts are my “me time!”

Lindsey @ EatReadRun December 2, 2009 at 10:26 am

Your breakfast looks delicious – I LOVE salsa soo much! I try to create my schedule allowing for at least 3 days of working out a week, even during the busy holiday season. Sometimes it’s tough though, so I’ll end up doing pilates at home if I can’t squeeze in some quality gym or running time.

Yummy breakfast! When the holiday season comes I like to get up early and get my exercise done, this means I have the evenings to snuggle up in blankets and catch upo on my blog reading! x x

The fitness part is easy for me. Holiday season or not, I get up at 4:45am and meet my workout partner at the gym by 5:00. We typically work out for about 1 hr. 15 min. and I’m home by 6:30am enough time to fix breakfast for the hubs and kiss him goodbye at the door as my kiddos come bounding down the stairs! This time works best for me…it was HARD for the first week or so getting my body used to being up that early…I would fall asleep reading a story to my guys by 9:00 am, but now I’m so used to it and can’t imagine NOT starting my day off that way!

I love my workout time! It especially helps having a great workout partner who I know is waiting for me there!!!

Rose December 2, 2009 at 10:34 am

I try and squeeze in fitness wherever and whenever I can – 10 minutes of walking at work, taking the stairs (to the 8th floor!) everyday, parking a bit farther away, getting in a quick yoga session before bed. I also try and go on long walks with my family – that way I get to spend time with them and move my body!

I don’t find time? :\ I’ve been slacking big time lately! It’s just been so busy, and I can’t run outside since it’s dark + cold now. I’ve got to figure something out.

I LOVE salsa for breakfast!

That breakfast looks delicious! Sometimes, you just have to mix things up in the morning. ;)

I’m lucky to work from home so I can wait until mid-morning or afternoon when it’s warmer to go for a run. I don’t know how people run in the cold mornings or evenings!

I.LOVE.THAT.VIDEO! As a new survivor, this just made me smile today! Thank you for posting that!

During the holiday season, I MAKE time for fitness. It’s not always easy, but it is so important not only to stay on some sort of “schedule” but also to help burn off some of the extra junk I’ve consumed! I think I am more motivated during the holidays than other times, because of that reason. I’d still like to fit into my jeans when Jan 2 rolls around;-)

I make time for fitness during the holidays. Actually, the holidays are my favorite time of year to run! I love the brisk air, the decorations, and the hustle and bustle of the people downtown. Running through all of that activity somehow gives me an inner sense of calm. Also, when all of the “gathering” gets started, sometimes I need time to be alone and regroup. Running is an awesome excuse to be by myself for just at least half an hour or more! LOL!

When I’m on holiday vacation, I agree to myself to exercise every day, no matter what it is. I don’t try to run a certain distance or follow a certain plan, but instaed let myself “relaxercise” for an hour. I do whatever I feel like, whether it’s reading a holiday baking magazine on the elliptical, dancing in my living room, or going for a run around the neighborhood. I don’t put pressure on myself – i just do whatever i feel like!
