First Snow Storm of the Season

December 20, 2009

I woke up this morning and immediately thought: Why do I live in New England? :-?

The snow has finally arrived, and obviously, I am not a happy camper. Boo. However, as much as I complain about the snow, I do think it’ll look pretty for Christmas. So, I guess that’s the positive spin! ;-)

Southie was really quiet this morning. Murphy and I only saw one person on our walk.

As soon as we came inside, Murphy went right for the Christmas tree.

Our butthead dog has not stopped chewing it since we got it! He’s probably eaten hundreds thousands of pine needles in the past few weeks!

(In the background, Mal is talking to his dad about his new car.)

To stop the Christmas tree chewing madness, we finally decided to do this:

Murphy wasn’t happy about it, but he hasn’t chewed the tree since.

Breakfast

My wonderful husband made pancakes for breakfast this morning. I swear, there’s nothing like homemade pancakes during a snow storm!

Mmmmm… warm maple syrup! :-D

IMG_0402.JPG

I love these plates! Mal used the puffer fish plate for his breakfast. So fun!

We’re supposed to get at least a foot of snow today, but somehow iced coffee made sense this morning?

Wrapping presents, baking, and writing my Health post are on the agenda for today.

Better get crackin’!

Those pancakes look dreammmmy…

To me that doesn’t look like too much snow but then again I do live in Canada..enjoy it while it is there :) Hopefully some of it sticks for christmas eve and christmas day <3

Aww hopefully it’ll just be a phase for Murphy. Is he young enough that he’s still growing teeth? Maybe the pine needles help to scratch the inside of his mouth

Haha.. when your husband is talking in that video it almost seems like it’s coming from Murphy. “Now i’m so excited I don’t want to do anything” haha… Maybe my mind is just too creative, but I had to giggled a little. =)

You got a lot less snow than I did! Wow.
When I was training my dog, the dog trainer told us to spray our puppy with water from a spray bottle when he went to chew on things. It worked very fast and it’s only water so it’s harmless. You might want to try it or Murphy could start chewing on those chairs!

that’s so cute about Murphy!! We were so happy our dog had no interest in the tree!!

I have another friend and her dog keeps peeing on her tree… eek!!

Wow, Boston got A LOT of snow but Albany didn’t get ANY! It’s so weird. Murphy is adorable. Now I want pancakes!

Erin December 20, 2009 at 1:31 pm

We have 20 inches here in DC and it’s gorgeous but taking forever to shovel out. The city has basically shut down — Boston is probably better prepared to deal. ;)

my parents have to tie their tree to the wall because the cats try to climb it every day! I’m so jealous of your winter wonderland!

I know you northerners get tired of the snow but I just love looking at all the pictures. I would be so happy if we just got an inch of snow.

Pancakes just delish! Perfect cold weather breakfast!

Hey! I’ve been following your blog(s) but never posted before. I used to live west of Worcester, and I do NOT miss the snow, although it is pretty (for about a week). I’m in GA now ;) My puppy has been eating the Christmas tree too..and the candy canes, and my arm…LoL! Have a great day :)

ashleigh December 20, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Ha! I feel the same way- I always wonder why I live in New England when it starts to get wicked cold and snow, BUT I am happy it will be a white Christmas :)

My cat chews my fake tree and plays with all of the bulbs! Luckily he’s only broken one so far. I think that’s a great idea blocking him out and I should probably do that myself.

hahahahha I love the video. Too funny. Sorry to hear about all of the snow :( You’re always welcome to get away down here!

iced coffee is always a good idea, no matter the cold weather!

Oh my goodness! I was seriously laughing out loud when I saw the picture of your little blockade for the tree. Having two dogs myself I can totally relate! Too funny,

We got close to 3 feet in DC… I don’t like being cooped up in the house :(

I’m hoping it’ll melt off soon!

I live in Nashville, TN… so I definitely don’t get nearly as much snow as you do… but I am NOT a snow girl whatsoever! It is pretty… but nope, not a fan!

Course, I grew up in Orlando, Fl…maybe that’s why? Even after ten years of living in TN… still not a fan of the cold :)

Yummy pancakes! :)

awww – we had to put up our tree (it’s artificial) because one of our cats wouldn’t stop chewing on it, and I didn’t want him to make himself sick eating fake pine needles.

I love how quiet snow makes things, and how pretty it is.. I don’t like driving in it!

Karla December 20, 2009 at 2:27 pm

You blocked off the tree! Murphy looks so sad that he can’t get to it!

Oh boy! So much snow! On a positive note, I’m glad to be home in San Fran on a mini-vaca; On the other side, when you don’t have snow it doesn’t feel so much like the Holidays! BTW–Murphy is such a cutie :P Love pugs! xxxx

Reading your blog this morning made me laugh, because EVERY winter I ask myself that very same question. Why do I live in an area that is COLD??? I am a warm weather girl and really should move, but with an 8 year old daughter in 3rd grade that conversation causes tears EVERY TIME!!! The snow does look pretty though. We’re supposed to get some this week too. I live in St Louis by the way.

can you loan your husband to me for a day so he can make me pancakes? They are always so darn fluffy! BTW I do NOT know how you guys live in snow…do you just wait for it to melt to get on with your day?

Liz December 20, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Murphy is too cute! I always hear my dog chewing on the tree but I have never caught her in the act because she runs away before I can get to her. Sneaky.

I live in Ohio and we got snow that baaaarely covers the ground. Come December 26, I’ll be sick of it. I only enjoy snow around Christmas!

Lynn (The Actors Diet) December 20, 2009 at 3:30 pm

that snow looks fun! we should do a housing swap during the winter; you and mal can enjoy los angeles while we “enjoy” the cold. that’s hilarious about murphy and the tree – we have a fake one in our house but i’ve always wondered if dogs pee on the real ones?

Lauren December 20, 2009 at 3:38 pm

The snow is ridiculous! Way too much of it for my liking. *grumble* My basset hound is a bad little thing when it comes to our tree, too. We caught him eating ornaments the other day: needless to say, the baby gate went up! Murphy is such a cute thing, though. :)

Kath December 20, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Haha – love Mal’s commentary :)

Look how guilty Murphy looks!!! The snow looks so pretty. So clean and crisp. I can only say that though because we probably won’t have any snow this year (I live in NC).

Yeah, this snow is crazy. I wish I could stay at home all day and just get cozy :)

We only got 3 inches in CT!!!!! What a gyp! I love snow, as long as I don’t have to dig out to go to work!

Poor Murphy, no more snacking on the Christmas Tree![lol]

My vet gave me great advice for puppies who are pretty much ALWAYS teething. Make sure they have a bone 24/ 7. Unfortunately, I didn’t find this out until after my dog had gotten ahold of a dining room chair!
