Dealing with the Headaches

December 28, 2009

Oh, the travel headaches just don’t seem to end! :-?

When Mal and I returned to our hotel room after dinner last night, we discovered some nastiness in our bathroom sink, which probably came up from the drain pipes. Gross! (Yucky photo below). So, we called the front desk to complain and we were told someone would come to our room to check it out and clean it up. More than a hour passed and still no one visited our room, so we called again to complain. Around midnight, we were finally moved to a new room.

Then, after getting to bed pretty late last night, we woke up, bright and early, to the sounds of construction right outside our window.

Grrrrr!

This morning, I also discovered that the wireless internet in our new room doesn’t work. For an already disgruntled blogger, this was especially annoying.

So, now I’m blogging in the hotel lobby. Oh, the fun never ends with this trip!

My day started to turn around when Mal and I stopped by The Human Bean for a couple of iced soy lattes (with chocolate-covered espresso beans). Totally delicious. :-D

IMG_1391.JPG

After just a couple of sips of iced latte, I was happy.

IMG_1393.JPG IMG_1396.JPG

I was even happier after eating one of Grandma’s cookies! ;-)

IMG_1398.JPG

When we arrived at Grandma’s house this morning, my father-in-law was already cooking-up a hearty breakfast for us.

IMG_1400.JPG IMG_1403.JPG

We had scrambled eggs.

IMG_1405.JPG

Hash browns.

IMG_1414.JPG

Toast and whole wheat English muffins.

IMG_1415.JPG

It was quite a breakfast feast!

IMG_1408.JPG IMG_1410.JPG

I started with small servings of everything.

IMG_1412.JPG

And then went back for a second half of English muffin and more eggs.

IMG_1417.JPG IMG_1419.JPG

Check out this old school spoon from the US Navy. Mal’s grandpa swiped it from the mess hall back in WW II.

IMG_1421.JPG

IMG_1420.JPG

I finished off breakfast with a couple of Grandma’s sugar cookies. I told ya I’d give some of her other flavors a try today! ;-)

Mal and I are off to explore Ashland this afternoon. We’ve heard great things about it.

See ya! 8-)

Ugh, I’ve had that same thing happen in a hotel bathtub when all I wanted was a shower. So frustrating! Hope today is better!

That hotel sounds less than hospitable! Do they know they have a blogger in their room that is documenting it all?! Maybe they’d give you an upgrade. Hahah. :-)

You should definitely ask for a refund! In most cases they will easily refund your money… especially if you mention you’re a blogger and you’ll do a review. HA!

I’m sorry that hotel is such a pain- you should complain and see if you can get some perks or money back. I’m usually not that type but I have noticed lately it really gets you a lot haha. Glad you are eating delicious cookies and drinking yummy coffee though!

Hey, I have matching forks to those U.S.N. spoons!! My father-in-law (he was in the Navy) got them when a ship was decommissioned (naval shipyards in Norfolk, VA) and I inherited them when my mom-in-law got tired of storing them!! Course they don’t match any of my silverware but I love them.

In would honestly be speaking to the hotel manager and then writing a letter to the hotel chain after the lack of customer service and construction.

Yuck, what is that in the sink? GROSS! I hate when the internet is down. So stressful. Mine was down a home on Wednesday and I was soooo annoyed alllllll day I thought I was going to loose my mind!

I am NOT liking this “hotel”. Did you book it through expedia or something like that? Alot of times it’s cause there is construction or something going on if you get a good deal…trust me it happened to me. You need to seriously talk to a manager and hopefully you can get at least get a free breakfast or slippers or something

Laura December 28, 2009 at 8:45 pm

That sink is gross! You’ve had some serious travel issues on this trip!

Ugh sorry about the annoying hotel! Seems like the lattes really turned the day around though :)

Reply

Jessica December 28, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Wow! I actually had the sink issue and construction issue happen at the Sheraton in Key West a few years ago (it was after one of the hurricanes went through). I am so sorry that happened to you! And I had to go to a coffee bar to get on the internet. Oh, fun times ;) Hope the rest of your trip is fantastic :)

Ashland is just gorgeous — i loove the co-op grocery and the Oregon Shakepeare Theatre. My hubby was an actor in their ensemble for 9 months. I also loved the landscaping of many of the homes there. They use many familiar herbs as part of their front yard shrubbery, including lavender and rosemary — thats my kind of town! They have a great sushi place – cant remember what its called, but OMG – its amazing and super affordable.!
