What’s Up with Agave Nectar?
Good morning!
It’s my last day of work before Thanksgiving vaca!!! Wahoo!
I am totally psyched for this mini vacation. I love everything about Thanksgiving– family, friends, food– what more could you ask for?! Plus, I feel like I’ve been on overdrive lately, so I’m really ready for some R & R!
Workout
I practically bounded out of bed this morning for a workout at the gym. I’m not sure what the heck got into me this morning? Usually, it’s somewhat of a struggle for me to get out of bed.
At the gym, I ran + walked for 4.5 miles. After a quick warm-up, I alternated 10 minutes of running with 5 minutes of walking. During the running portion, I switched up the speeds to do some intervals. I varied my running speeds between 6.3 – 7.2 and then walked at a steady 4.0 pace. I finished my workout with a good 15 minutes of stretching and foam rolling. Everything was so tight! I definitely needed it! I was a sweaty mess when I left the gym, but I felt great.
For those of you who asked about my new hip strengthening workout, I plan to do it tomorrow morning, so I will post it with breakfast.
Breakfast
Today’s bowl of oats was very nutritious and very delicious!
In the mix:
- 1/3 cup dry oats
- 1/3 cup wheat berries
- 1/3 cup pomegranate arils
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
- 1 banana, sliced
- 1/2 cup soy milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 scoops of peanut butter
It was a humongous bowl of oats, but I managed to eat the whole thing!
With breakfast, I also enjoyed an iced coffee with soy milk and agave nectar.
Speaking of agave nectar…
What’s Up with Agave Nectar?
I received the above question from a reader the other day, so I decided to write a little something about one of the most used foods in my life.
As you probably know from reading my blog, I am a huge fan of agave nectar–- mostly because I have a major sweet tooth! To be honest, finding out about agave nectar was sort of a life-changing experience for me!
Agave nectar is a natural sweetener that comes from the Mexican agave plant. (It’s actually the same plant from which tequila is made!) Agave is comparable to honey or maple syrup, but less sticky, pours easily, and dissolves quickly in both hot and cold foods and drinks. It’s delicious mixed into your morning bowl of oatmeal or yogurt, added to coffee or tea, drizzled on pancakes or waffles, and is especially wonderful in baked goods.
The glycemic index of agave nectar is significantly lower than that of sugar, so it doesn’t spike your blood sugar as much. Agave nectar contains close to the same amount of calories as sugar, but because it is so much sweeter, you use less. In baking, for instance, you can use 1/4 to 1/3 cup of agave for every cup of sugar, which naturally reduces the calories in your recipes. (Agave nectar burns more easily than sugar, so be sure to decrease your oven temperature by about 25 degrees.)
One of my favorite agave nectar recipes is for Banana Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. Agave contains small amounts of calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium, so when combined with an All-Star cast of ingredients, these cookies end up being equally nutritious as they are delicious!

In honor of Turkey Day, here’s this week’s FGW post: 4 Thanksgiving Diet Fouls—and How to Avoid Them
Tail Chasing & Elephant Butt
This video is funny for 3 reasons:
- Murphy chases his tail for a good 60 seconds before I grab my camera to film him.
- When he realizes that I am filming him, he stops dead in his tracks.
- Then he does “elephant butt” (tucking his butt and dropping his tail like an elephant) which is absolutely hilarious. He always does it when he’s excited.
Eggland’s Best Recipe Contest
There’s less than a week to enter the Eggland’s Best Holiday Recipe Contest! The last day to enter is Monday, November 30th. I’ve already received so many delicious-sounding recipes! Holy yum!
Question of the Day
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
I love all of them, but my favorites are sweet potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and my mom’s pumpkin pie.

Murphy is so freakin’ funny!!!! My favorite dish is stuffing and gravy. Yummmm.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Murphy is hilarious!!
I love stuffing and green bean casserole!! I will have to wait until my hubby and I get back from our cruise to have it though! We are postponing our Thanksgiving dinner by 2 weeks. I know it’s weird, but my husband has to have his Thanksgiving dinner!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 9:57 am
I like that bowl of oats topped with pomgranate!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:05 am
Murphy is the funniest little pup! I want to smush his face! Thanks for all the info on agave. I have been using it and I know it has a lower GI but I didn’t know all the specifics. My obsession is sweet potato in any mush form on Thanksgiving!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:06 am
I just read your Health FGW post, and it’s one of my favorites that you’ve written. You give great tips that are specific, like the actual size of your portions and using a plate for the snacking. I’ve read so many things lately about surviving the holidays, and the rules are frequently so generic. I’m gonna think about it when I’m serving up a golf ball sized servings of dressing and cranberry sauce. Thanks!!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:12 am
today is my last day of classes before thanksgiving and i’m so excited! The thanksgiving stuffing is my favorite. me and my brother make it together and it tastes sooooooooo good! can’t wait to hear the exciting news later!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Hands down, my favorite Thanksgiving dish is mashed potatoes! We don’t make these very often at our house, opting instead for the healthier roasted or baked potatoes, so the mashed variety are a Thanksgiving treat.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Please stop posting photos/videos of your Murphy! You are making me want a dog!!! BTW I bought some agave nectar the other day because everyone in the blog world raves about it. My grocery store was promoting it and I got $2 off!!! Everyone should check their local market!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Love that video of Murphy! So cute. My favorite Thanksgiving dish is mashed potatoes or stuffing. Mmm…. I’m not a huge dessert person so I would prefer going back for seconds and thirds rather than having pie. Wierd, I know.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:16 am
I love agave nectar! It’s become priceless to me!
I love mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. If they were on the table every day, I’d be happy.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:17 am
That Murphy video is hilarious…I love dogs
Thanks for sharing some Thanksgiving FGW tips!
My favorite Thanksgiving dish? PIE.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:17 am
Love the video of Murphy! He’s hilarious!! My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is the gravy and mashed potatoes!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Honestly my absolute favorite dish at Thanksgiving is the turkey. I never have a chance to enjoy dark meat, so it is ON for Thanksgiving =)
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:20 am
I love agave nectar too, its so yummy!
My Thanksgiving favorites are definitely the turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green bean casserole. I can’t wait!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:23 am
HA! Murphy made me snort coffee
Thanks for the agave info… I’ve got to pick some up.
The best part of our thanksgiving dinner is when me, my mom, my sister, and my “aunt” stand in the kitchen and eat the crispy turkey skin before the guys can get to it. Kinda gross, but fun!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:25 am
murphy is much too cute.
Im all about the mashed potatoes and turnip
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:26 am
I tried agave nectar, but couldn’t taste it so then I made a coffee for my bf with agave nectar and he couldn’t taste it either and I squirted a ton in his. Is there a secret or did I get a trick bottle perhaps?
Murphy is adorable!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:29 am
I can’t wait for the green bean casserole.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:29 am
My favorite thanksgiving dish would be my mom’s stuffing. I also love pumpkin pie…but lately I have been making pumpkin pudding (healthy version of course!!) and the family loves it!!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:32 am
murphy is amazing. hahaha.
i am a huge fan of agave too, thanks for giving a bit more info on it.

Green Bean Casserole is my favorite – no doubt! I’ve been known to just fill up a plate full of it and forgoing all the other foods
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:46 am
I got my workout done early this morning too:) I like agave too, I usually drizzle a little bit on my Greek yogurt. I don’t eat meat and I am not a huge fan of the traditional Thanksgiving foods. I do LOVE these roasted veggies:

on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Great workout! Nice variety of speeds to make it interesting.
I’m going to have to try Agave nectar now thanks for the tip! I’ve always loved adding peanut butter to my oatmeal, I think everyone should do it.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Lately I have read some negative press about agave nectar. Have you seen any of it? I will have to dig up the links but read it on a few “raw foodists” blogs.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Delicious looking oats, as usual! My favorite thanksgiving dish would have to be mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows. Everyone loves them!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Thanks for the info on agave! I’ve cooked with it but never put it into drinks, etc. I’ll have to give it a try.
Stuffing is my all time favorite Thanksgiving food! I just love it.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Here are the links they blogs featured. I was suprised to learn there was a “controversy” about agave since you always see it touted for being a better sugar option. Like everything, there are probalby two sides to the story but since you rarely hear the negative about it I thought it was good to share. I don’t use it very often so not concerened one way or the other but for people who use it a lot they might want to further explore.

Seriously – he’s too cute!
My favorite Thanksgiving food is my mom’s fudge pie. We ONLY get it at the holidays, and it’s my favorite.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:54 am
I agree w/Lara – I actually stopped using it after reading A LOT about the potentially negative side effects. Here’s just one example: http://www.naturalnews.com/024892_fructose_food_health.html
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:55 am
Murphy is too cute! It makes me miss my doggy!
I agree about the mini work hiatus! I am so excited for some time off. Plus I can’t wait to dig into that stuffing. I am such a bread girl!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:56 am
so looking forward to my Mom’s sweet bread, STUFFING and sweet potatoes
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:56 am
BTW what time do you wake up in the morning? I wish I had the motivation to scoot out of bed in the morning but I’d have to wake up around 6 am to get a good workout in….and that would just be too rough, haha! I end up going after work everyday.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:57 am
LOL Murphy is too cute! He was so excited to be on camera. A future star and a real ham!
Good job on the run/walk!
Um I don’t know maybe mashed potatoes? I’m not a huge Thanksgiving food girl (blasphemy I know)… I’m trying mashed sweet potatoes this year so I think that maybe a new favorite.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Hey Tina – thanks for the agave nectar info . . . I just recently switched
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Favorite Thanksgiving dish = homemade chunky cranberry sauce.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Hahaha that video is hilarious! Your dog is too cute
and my favorite Thanksgiving day dish has got to be the sweet potatoes!!! That and pumpkin pie… can’t go wrong!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Loved this post for the following reasons:
1) Your incredibly self-motivated work out has inspired me to get into gym gear and get moving as soon as I hit “submit” on my comment.
2) Your beautiful pomegranate oats.
3) Your very positive insight into Agave Nectar. I was turned on to it thanks to the wonders of food blogs, and it really is awesome. I’ve not yet tried baking with it (but thanks to your specific tips, I may just give those cookies a whirl), but have used it in tea, coffee, oatmeal, pancakes, etc. It’s great. I was wondering if it’s an ok sugar substitute for diabetics? My Dad has the disease, and while he absolutely depends on quick sugar fixes sometimes (when blood sugar is low), he may be interested in using it.
4) Murphy. I love Pugs, and yours happens to be exceptionally adorable!
My favorite Thanksgiving side dish are my sister’s candied yams. LOVE them.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Murphy is precious. My 90 lb lab does that same tail tucking thing when he gets excited. It’s so funny to see him try to tuck his tail and scurry around. Thanks for sharing that video, it definitely brought a smile to my face!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:05 am
thanks for the tips on agave!! I knew it was more like honey, but I’m definitely going to try it in place of syrup next time I have a big, yummy breakfast!!
love it.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Murphy is such a cute little guy! I love the cute things that dogs do when they’re happy and excited
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:08 am
As awful as it sounds, my favorite dishes would have to be canned cranberry sauce and stuffing, both from Whole Foods
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:08 am
@MelissaNibbles: Yea, I think you might have got a bum bottle. Agave nectar is SO SWEET! Make sure you get the dark 100% agave– maybe that will make a difference.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:09 am
@gina (fitnessista): Just emailed you!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:09 am
@Lara: No, what has it been saying?
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:10 am
I accidently used the same amount of agave as you normally would with sugar and REALLY regretted it. It was AWFUL! Cutting back from 1 cup sugar to 1/4 cup agave is a great tip.
Murphy is the cutest thing!

I LOVED your FGW post! I am going to use all 4 tips for BOTH of my Thanksgiving celebrations! I actually put them into my phone calendar so reminders will pop up right before dinner time (portion control), after dinner time (go for walk) and the next day (hit the gym). Thanks, Tina!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Murphy is hilarious!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:14 am
We do butternut squash (pureed and baked, with marshmellows on top!) instead of sweet potatoes – that’s my favorite!
I also think the thing I love most about Thanksgiving is having a turkey sandwich with squash, cranberries, and stuffing on it the day afterwards!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Gahhh LOVE the pup. He’s too cute! My pup will lay on his back & chase his tail…I have never seen a dog do this before!
I’m a sucker for skin on mashed potatoes & broccoli-bacon salad. Mmmm just a few more days!!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:25 am
I do want to try agave since I have a serious sweet tooth as well!
My favorite thing is probably apple pie! I actually don’t like the rest of the thanksgiving food that much….I am probably the only person in the world who feels that way!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:31 am
@Lara: Interesting. I guess it all goes back to reading labels and knowing where your food comes from.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:36 am
I LOVE sweet potatoes with a praline crust. Not the healthiest option but SOOOOO good!
Also, thanks for the info. on agave nectar and baking. I’ve been experimenting with it a lot but it’s helpful to know the measurements of substitutions from someone who bakes a lot. Can’t wait to see your next creation!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:39 am
I have actually never tried agave nectar. I tried a blend of agave and maple syrup and truly enjoyed it so I think I will have to give it a shot.
Haha, that video of Murphy is so darn cute!!!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Our dogs are the same way about the camera. They love to play and be goofy until I get the camera out.
I love stuffing most of all. It can be made so many ways and I enjoy most of them
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:45 am
@Tina: It is not a matter of labels/brand, etc. It is that what is sold as agave nectar regardless of brand/origin is “flawed”.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:49 am
I’m really curious about agave nectar.. I’ll need to give it a try one day soon.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Sweet mashed potatoes; yuuumy!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:51 am
My favorite Thanksgiving dish is a broccoli/cauliflower and cheese dish my momma makes. Delicious, but probably not too healthy.
You always have some exciting news going on! Good for you – whatever it is. I will check back.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Have you ever heard the controversy about agave nectar? I was using it for awhile, and then stopped after doing quite a bit of research. A lot of things I read seemed to say it actually has the opposite effect than what people thought at first. It is compared to high fructose corn syrup and some say it is worse because it is even more highly processed. I have found many articles in the past year and just decided to take it out of my diet. Here was one I thought explained it particularly well:
http://www.naturalnews.com/024892_fructose_food_health.html
I have also started using Brown Rice Syrup, which is a mild syrup-like sweetener that will not spike your GI levels. I haven’t found any of the “negative” type articles on this that I have found about agave. I started a granola bar business last spring and did a TON of research on what to use for the sweeteners…this is how I stumbled on all of this. Let me know what you think. Thanks =)
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:56 am
your oats look great!!
thanks for the info on agave!

on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Ha ha ha! Murphy is SO cute! I love when dogs chase their tails. Ours does it often but it’s long enough so he can actually catch it. My favorite Thanksgiving dish the my mom’s sweet potato and apple casserole. Yum!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Is it bad to say that I Love my own recipes? You see, now that I am seeing someone-we go to his parents for Thanksgiving and have been doing so for the last 5 years and it’s just not the same. The stuffing is all wrong, the potatoes don’t have any butter in them (and what’s mashed potatoes on thanksgiving without a little butter?). So, I take my homemade cranberry sauce and my moms pumpkin roll with.
If I were at my moms for Thanksgiving- I would eat everything! Sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and stuffing
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Stuffing, Gravy, & Cranberries!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
I too enjoy agave nectar. I’ve been adding it to my coffee and tea but have not tried baking with it yet. I’m hoping I can get the energry to try baking some bread using it tonight!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Murphy is so funny! I’ve discovered agave nectar through blogs and really like baking with it. I haven’t put any into coffee or oats yet because it’s just too sweet for me, which is hilarious because I totally have a sweet tooth too!
I think my favorite dish is the stuffing, it’s just so carby and delicious!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
I have heard a lot of bad things about agave – that it’s low on the GI because it’s nearly all fructose – which can be as bad as HFCS. What are your thoughts on the recent criticisms it has taken?
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Aww, I miss the low butt run of my little pug, Harry, who we had to say goodbye to this past Oct. 16.
He used to always poop after doing it. LOL!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
hahaaha I love pugs!! That just put a wonderful smile on my face.
My favorite Thanksgiving dish is turkey breast with cranberry sauce on top! MM!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
i do love agave – have you ever tried brown rice syrup? i love that too….though it gets messy.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Oh my goodness- Murphy is the cutest!!!! The elephant butt is hysterical!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
omgosh! hilarious! so cute!!!!
my fav thanksgiving dish…well, actually dessert is pumpkin pie =)
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Murphy’s gotten so big!!
My fave dish is green bean caserole, hands down.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Favorite dish is Cheesy Potatoes! SO, so, SO good! And so easy! A bag of frozen hashbrowns, a couple cans of cheese soup, some sour cream, salt, pepper, onion if you like (I do), 2 cups shredded cheese – mix up and bake (I usually do 350 for like an hour). You can add crushed chips to the top, but I never do. I do sometimes add extra cheese to the top. If you love cheese, this is a GREAT dish for you.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Ha, elephant butt is hilarious. I agree with the previous commenter who said it totally makes me want a dog.
Those pom arils look gorgeous on the oats.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
I still have not tried agave nectar but it’s on my list! My favorite Thanksgiving dish…I have no idea! I guess not one in particular stands out but just the meal in general. Hope you have a good one
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Haha, I love the video!
I had no idea that agave comes from the same plant as tequila… but I recently started using agave and LOVE it!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Hey! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now but decided to come out from hiding
to tell you that I recently bought agave nectar after seeing you incorporate it in your recipes. I love it! I’m trying to break my habits of using sugar substitutes like splenda and equal and use natural products. Love your blog and your smoochy dog too!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
You can run damn fast. I know you took walking breaks but still… 6.3-7.2 is impressive. I ate my fist pom the other day because you inspired me to finally test one out. We became fast friends and I am now obsessed, so thanks for that. I also bought Agave and I feel like it doesn’t taste as sweet as maple syrup or honey. About to watch Murphy’s video–did you google pug meet-ups in Boston yet? You’ve got to go.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
I can deal without gravy, i can deal without potatoes… but i have to have STUFFING! Moist and delicious STUFFING! Ok, i’m hungry now…
And i’m another agave addict, so glad it doesn’t mess with my bloodsugar!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Thanks for the agave info – I do use it, but I was glad to know the proportions for baking.
Great Thanksgiving food article – I’m definitely going to try to incorporate your suggestions – especially the appetizer plate.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
STUFFING! I love it! I have a gluten-intolerance but my mom makes a great gluten- free version for me and I can eat myself sick on it! But I figure since I only eat it once a year…it’s okay! haha! I usually pass on the pie and when dessert is served ask for more stuffing. I am not kidding…I LOVE IT!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Murphy is tooo cute. How do you get anything done in your apartment. I would just stare at him all day.
My favorite dish is mashed potatoes and my aunt makes her turkey in a fryer which makes it SO tasty.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
Cushaw and Mac n’ Cheese!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
So adorable! My puppy used to do that too but Murphy looks much cuter trying to tuck that curly tail under!
Thanks for the information on Agave too. I’ve been wanting to try it in my tea but haven’t been able to find it in my area yet.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Elephant butt is a creative name for that! Our dog in Africa did that when He was SUPER excited.. We called it “The Scoot”- he was like a little bronco trying to get around …. things broncos try to scoot around.. barrels!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
That is too funny ! My dog does elephant butt too , but we call it ” the dolphin ” ! She reminds me of when dolphins come up out of the water and ride around on their tails.
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
I just made the banana oatmeal chip cookies that you mentioned. It worked out perfectly because I over bought bananas last week and have a ton of mushy ones that I need to use up. Just tried one out of the oven and they are delicious! Thanks so much for posting the recipe, these will definitely regulars in my house!
on Nov 24th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
I LOVE your pug!! Murphy is adorable!!
That video cracked me up!
I also really love your website and have been reading it for over a year. I just want to tell you that you do a wonderful job, and although I rarely ever comment, I really do appreciate the information you share with all of us. THANK YOU!!
on Nov 25th, 2009 at 1:01 am
My dad’s mashed turnips!!!!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!
on Nov 25th, 2009 at 2:40 am
Thanks for the 411 on agave. I think my favorites at Thanksgiving have to be the potatoes (sweet & mashed), and dessert : )
on Nov 25th, 2009 at 5:26 am
I used to loooove agave nectar until I read this article : http://www.westonaprice.org/modernfood/HFCSAgave.pdf
which is a bit long and complicated but basically they are saying agave nectar isnt quite a “nectar”, its from the root of the agave plant and therefor processed in a similar way that HFCS is (unlike maple syrup or honey, which really are nectar like). So, just curious as to what you thought of this? Im sure there are multiple opinions out there!
PS I love your blog, have never commented before but I give you and Murphy two thumbs up =)
on Dec 1st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
My puppy does that when we don’t have time to walk her or take her to the dog park (our puppies normally get walked 3 times a day in addition to running around in the parks). not saying that you don’t give your dog enough exercise, but maybe you should look into it a bit more.
on Dec 6th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
thanks for the info about agave nectar! i had read about it on blogs but really had no idea what it was.
