Sniff, Sniff, Sniff

November 16, 2009

Sorry for the late lunch post. I just got back for a long walk with my favorite dog. Murphy and I walked ALL over Southie this afternoon! 8-)

Cruisin’ down the sidewalk

Waiting patiently to cross the street

Come on, Mom. Stop taking pictures!

IMG_0604.JPG

Seriously, Mom! You’re embarrassing me!!!

IMG_0606.JPG

(I can’t even look at the photo above without laughing! )

Murphy and I walked for about an hour. Well, our “walk” was 25% walking, 25% running (yes, pugs run), and 50% sniffing. We basically stopped every 2 minutes to sniff something.

Murphy is a sniffing fiend!

Lunch

I was a bad blogger today and left my camera at home. In the nearly 2 years that I’ve been blogging, I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten my camera. I’ve forgotten to take photos of my meals, but I have never forgotten my camera. I guess there’s a first for everything!

Luckily, my trusty iPhone came to the rescue!

Part 1 of lunch: Larabar + banana

And when I got home…

Part 2: Leftover Savory Pumpkin Bread Pudding. Just as delicious reheated!

As I am typing this blog post, I am sipping on POM + H20. It tastes wonderful, especially after a long walk!

NuVal Buzz

I tweeted about this last week, but I though some of my blog readers might like this game too: Nutrition by the Numbers. Play to see how your nutrition knowledge stacks up!

Check out these great blog posts about NuVal: the Economical Eater’s NuVal scores: more nutritious dinner, while keepin’ it cheap and Tate’s NuVal and Meijer.

Time to start thinking about dinner! Be back later! :-D

I don’t know how anyone could keep from laughing out loud at those Murphy pics! He is just the cutest thing! I have never been a dog person, but just looking at him makes me want a pug of my own. Maybe someday. :)

AWWW. Dogs say so much with their expressions don’t they? And our poodle has to SNIFF EVERYTHING. We constantly pull her along because she has to look, touch, smell everything out there. I want to live as in the moment as my dog!

Murphy’s little face cracks me up every time! Now when I see a pug walking around I get all googly! They are just the cutest little dogs. I never really noticed before Murphy!

Tina, he is seriously adorable. That last pic was great. That’s a fab quality cell pic, too. I have some questions for you. I’ve got some things going on tonight but I’ll try to shoot you an email tonight or tomorrow.

Looks like it was a beautiful day in Boston! I’m jealous :-) We had a very overcast day here in Chicago. BTW, noticed the Body and Soul magazine in your pic – love it!

Ha my puppy has actually started to turn away from the camera when he sees the orange light come on. At least Murphy poses!

Anne November 16, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I know this is a silly question, but why does Murphy ALWAYS wear his harness? I live on an IN farm and my dog always runs free so maybe I just don’t understand!!!! Either way, I love pugs and Murphy wants to make me own my own once I move to CA! Love his little face!

You got me so addicted to the Nutrition by Numbers game! I thought I would be better at it too?

Reply

ari November 16, 2009 at 7:20 pm

hey tina! i have a question about nuval. i was playing the nutrition by numbers game and it said that fritos chips scored higher than kashi strawberry fields cereal. i’m just a little confused about that, haha. what is nuval’s score based on? it’s hard for me to believe that a fried chip could be healthier than whole grain cereal.
thanks!

Murphy is too cute!

That NuVal game was very educational. I did not do very well.

Reply

Tina November 16, 2009 at 8:24 pm

@Anne: Well, I live in a city, so anytime we’re outside, he needs to be on a leash by law and we don’t want him running into the street. At home, however, he runs around “naked” quite a lot!

Reply

Tina November 16, 2009 at 8:26 pm

@Meg @ Be Fit Be Full: It’s hard, right?!

Reply

Tina November 16, 2009 at 8:29 pm

@ari: Yea, that Kashi Strawberry Fields is FULL of sugar. Sometimes “health” foods are not actually a nutritious choice!

Each NuVal Score takes into account more than just the nutrition fact panel. It considers 30-plus nutrients and nutrition factors – the good (protein, calcium, vitamins) and the not-so-good (sugar, sodium, cholesterol). And then it boils it down into a simple, easy-to-use number.

Of course, there’s a lot more to the science behind the NuVal System. You can read about it more here: http://www.nuval.com/science

Hope this helps!

@Lesley: Murphy is from “Murphy’s Pugs!” We named him after the breeder! Gloria Murphy has been breeding pugs for 26 years and lives in Warren, MA.

I love the puppy looks. Peanut and Leo went for a long walk today and sniffed everything. They aren’t used to the new smells on the longer part of our walk.

My basset refuses to sit on any hard surface. If we are in the kitchen, she will back up until she finds a rug or the carpet before sitting down. Such a diva! But I love my dog, I don’t know what I’d do without her.

Great Murphy pics as usual! I’m glad that my husband and I aren’t the only ones who refer to each other as “mom & dad” when speaking to our dog and cat. My husband and I also “speak for” our pets… it’s so much fun to put their facial expressions into words.

Another similarity between Murphy and Shelby? SNIFFING. My gosh… our dog must have some kind of hunting breed in her!
