Good morning!
Happy Hump Day!
Sorry that I didn’t post dinner last night. I really needed to UNPLUG and relax. I wanted a night at home with my hubby and puppy that did not involve staring at my computer. I hope you guys understand!
Breakfast was fun this morning!
Last night, I baked an acorn squash with Olivio, agave nectar, and cinnamon. I mashed up the “guts,” but left them inside the skin to sit overnight. In the morning, I made stovetop oats with vanilla extract and cinnamon, and then put them inside the baked acorn squash to eat together. The squash + oats combo was so delicious!
I topped my oats with pumpkin and sesame seeds and sipped a cup of hot coffee on the side with vanilla soy milk and agave nectar.
Breakfast was SO good! Very autumn-y!

Question of the Day
Many people will tell you to have a snack before a big meal out, but that doesn’t mean that’s right for everyone. What do you do when hunger strikes before a planned splurge? And what other diet tips just don’t work for you?

Wow! ! would have never thought of doing that. Great breakfast idea! Splurges are an important part of my diet. If I deprive myself, I go into a splurge marathon – No one wants that! So I try to keep myself hungry for the splurge, other wise it’s a waste.
If I have a big party coming up, I try to work out as close to party time as possible. For some reason, I never feel like eating as much after I work out and this has totally helped me prevent splurges becoming out right binges.
For planned splurges I strive for balance. Like I’ll have the salad and then dessert or a big meal and skip dessert or eat fruit.
I never thought about eating them like that… I feel like my squash cooking history is really dismal considering it’s so readily available here
Looks delicious.
I’m not very good at planned splurges. Even after 2 years of WW, I sometimes think “screw it. I ate crap for lunch and blew it for the day, so I might as well keep eating crap …” I need to stop that and remember that every meal is a chance to start over.
I used to have a handful of almonds or something along those lines before a big dinner out, but I realize that I often still end up eating the same amount later… which defeats the purpose a bit. If I am really hungry, I will still have a snack, but otherwise, I stick with seltzer water beforehand.
If I know I’m going out for a lot of eating or drinking I try to workout for a half hour longer than I normally would. I also chew gum or drink right more water before a splurge. I think the detox part is most important. Its okay to splurge one day or one weekend but then the next week get back on track. I think bloggers(esp. you) are the best at showing a balanced lifestyle.
Mmmm breakfast looks delicious!
Eating a snack before a splurge or a meal out depends on the kind of meal I’m going to have. I’m definitely a snacker though so I often find myself munching on a little something anyways.
i like to go to a big event hungry, that’s part of the fun for me, but sometimes i’ll eat a piece of fruit or something an hour beforehand so i’m not ready to bite someone’s head off upon entering. glad you took the night off to unwind, m’dear – important….your breakfast looks so fancy!
If I am hungry before going out for dinner : I EAT! Nothing too big, something like a fruit or some crakers, but I dont let myself starve just because ”I will eat later”. Anyway, most of the time when you get a reservation at a restaurant (lets say for 8pm) you don’t actually get your main plate before approx an hour later (9pm). I don’t eat entree, NEVER, I find them : expensive, super high in calories : totally pointless to get. So, if I don’t eat before, I KNOW that I will rush into the bread (or watever is on the table). Plus, in a restaurant, we always start up with wine, and drinking wine for an hour on an empty stomatch does not give the best feeling!
Love your breakfast ideas…!! I should make more time in the morning to actually enjoy breakfast (instead of rushing into it!)
Of course it’s okay, Teen! I mean, let’s weigh the options: staring at a computer, or chillin with your warm hus and Murphy. Seems clear to me
I don’t chew gum while cooking as many people tell you to do to avoid snacking. Food is meant to be tasted to me, and it is all part of the experience. A lot of diet advice also says to eat 3 meals a day and to avoid snacking. I graze all day long because I get hungry quickly. My weight hasn’t changed more than 3-5 lbs in about 10 years, so I guess its all working.
