Lazy, Lazy Day
After running around and reorganizing our apartment all morning, I totally crashed and took a nap.
I actually HATE napping. I always feel worse when I wake up from a nap, so I typically avoid them like the plague. But, today, I couldn’t resist my bed and a cuddly pug.

I slept for about an hour before stumbling into the kitchen for some lunch.
I made myself a bowl of Southwestern Black and Orange Ravioli from Nella Pasta (full review tomorrow night!) with spinach, mushrooms, and a scoop of salsa on top.
A little while later, I snacked on a piece of raisin bread toast with peanut butter. Sorry no photo. I just ate it without thinking of my camera.

Murphy continued to sleep the afternoon away…

His pug playdate really wore him out!

So tired!

Dinner
Tonight’s dinner was another delicious recipe from Real Simple magazine.
Creamy Rice with Roasted Shrimp
Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup Arborio rice*
- 1 cup dry white wine
- kosher salt and black pepper
- 1 pound frozen peeled and deveined medium shrimp, thawed
- 2 pints grape tomatoes
- 8 sprigs fresh thyme
- 2 cloves garlic, sliced
*Instead of Arborio rice, I used Massa Organics Whole Grain Brown Rice.

Directions:
Heat oven to 400º F. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook the onion until soft, 5 to 7 minutes. Add the rice and wine and cook, stirring, until the wine is absorbed.
Add 2 cups water and 1⁄4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Simmer, covered, over low heat until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender, 18 to 20 minutes.

Meanwhile toss the shrimp, tomatoes, thyme, garlic, the remaining tablespoon of oil, and 1⁄2 teaspoon each salt and pepper.

On a rimmed baking sheet, roast until the shrimp are cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes.

Serve over the rice.

Awesome recipe! Mal raved about this one!

With dinner, I drank a glass of POM juice mixed with water.

After dinner, Mal brought us a couple of spoonfuls of Pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough for dessert. It was SO GOOD, but sometimes my husband is a bad influence on me! Chocolate chip cookie dough = heaven!

The weekend flew by, didn’t it? Back to the grind tomorrow.
Enjoy the last few hours of the weekend!

Naps with Pugs are the best. They’re great cuddle buddies.

Ahah omg, Murphy is sooo adorable! And that first pic is so cute
Sometimes we just a need a good ol’ nap. I rarely nap but sometimes… it’s a necessity!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Sounds like my day! I napped, curled up with the puppy and had a very relaxing day.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 7:58 pm
I also took a nap this afternoon, and that is not likely! Sometimes we just need them to get re-energize.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Sometimes you just have to splurge and have the cookie dough. It is just too good.
The photos of Murph are adorable

Yum, great recipe!! Thanks
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:05 pm
today was a lazy day for me too…must be something about this time of year!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:05 pm
I hate naps too!! Usually I can’t fall asleep in the middle of the day anyways, no matter how tired I am.. I do, however, LOVE chocolate cookie dough! Have you ever had Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked fro-yo? Also delish, with chunks of cookie dough AND brownie dough!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:06 pm
You look so comfy, I wouldn’t want to get out of bed either!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
That’s the best dessert EVER! Lazy day for me as well, must be the time change.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I’m totally the same way with naps… definitely feel worse after. I can only do like 15-20 minute naps where I don’t fall asleep. Anything more like that and I will NEVER want to get back up!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Haha, murphy looks adorable as always.
I can’t nap, I don’t know why but it really throws me off
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
That shrimp dish looks really good. Did the rice still come out creamy when you used brown rice?
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I love naps! Unfortunately I don’t get to take advantage of them much anymore. I wish the US had a siesta like Spain.
And, I totally agree that sometimes boyfriends/husbands can be a bad influence with food. Oh well, usually what they’re trying to get to eat is worth it.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I actually have my body shut down when it needs a nap so I just build nap time into my day. I wish I could be a dog… sleep and eat all day
Um yea my whole family is the same way about bad influencing one won’t kill you! And if I try to eat healthy they are convinced I have an eating disorder.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:02 pm
You and Murphy look so comfy cuddled up! This weekend definitely flew by way too fast!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Murphy loves your bed…aww. Our dogs Peanut and Leo could sleep in bed all day too.
I will be trying this recipe ASAP!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:10 pm
mmm eating chocolate chip cookie dough is the best!!!!!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Aw, lazy Sundays are the best!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:25 pm
sounds like the perfect sunday to me – naps and cookie dough. my dog julius sleeps with us too – i love cuddling with him….
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:27 pm
I was surprised to see the Massa Organics brown rice! How did you get that all the way on the east coast? They (and by “they” I mean the people who own this farm!) sell this rice at my local Farmer’s Market (Davis, California) every Saturday. It is the best brown rice! Yum yum!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Husbands are definitely bad diet influences!! Although I’m super impressed that you have the willpower to stop at a couple bites…. my hubby and I have been known to go through a whole package
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:38 pm
i love cuddling up with my pup for a nap! he’s so warm and i sleep so well. i have to agree with you on naps though – you never feel the same for the rest of the day!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Chocolate chip cookie dough is my favorite!!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:52 pm
I am the same way with naps – but I also dozed off today on the couch. Maybe it was the time change.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:54 pm
if I had that precious pup there is no way I would be able to resist spending all day cuddling up with him
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Murphy!!!!!!! He is so freeking adorable, I want one! Hey if you can’t find a dog sitter feel free to ask
btw, where is your duvet from? (if it is a duvet), I’m on a search. That shrimp dish sounds delicious, I really need to look into Real Simple recipes more.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 10:03 pm
I always hate napping, too. I feel like garbage after. Unless its on a weekend and I lay around all day!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I guess I’m going to be a kill joy and ask if cookie dough is ok to eat like that? Does it have eggs in it? I know the one they use for ice cream isn’t real cookie dough and doesn’t have eggs. It looks and sounds delish but I just had to ask!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I must say..my husband LOVES pugs. One day we will own one, but until then. You have his favorite food blog. I show him the pictures of yours every time there’s one up!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
This is going to sound crazy – but I don’t really like eating raw cookie dough! I love eating fresh out of the oven cookies, though
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Oh man I love naps. Cmon isn’t your own bed not the nicest and coziest place in the whole world. In fact I think I’m going to go to bed right now!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Oh The pug is so cute – Love that innocent look !!!
real simple sometime have really good ones, I am a big fan of them and will stick with my TV every Sunday afternoon for that!
Thanks for the recipe, it looks really light and tasty
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 12:47 am
I’ve never really looked through Real Simple magazine – that recipe looks good though.
I actually love naps, but I don’t like how you loose part of the day by napping.
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 1:16 am
I HATE taking naps, too! I always feel so outta-wack when I wake up!
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 1:23 am
WOW! Your dinner looks delish!!!!

Your dinner looked really good. But the star of this post is Murphy! He just gets cuter and cuter. I don’t tire of his pictures!
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 8:00 am
Your dog is just too cute, and that dinner looks just too delicious. Nothing is as irresistible as cookie dough.
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 8:39 am
I LOVE lazy days! I don’t have them very often, but when I do, my mind is refreshed and ready to conquer the next week! Your dog is so adorable!!!
on Nov 2nd, 2009 at 8:47 am
Sometimes you just need a nap! Your body probably needed the rest:) I love me some lazy Sundays.
