I Have that Friday Feeling

November 13, 2009

Hi, guys! Good morning! :-D I have that Friday feeling and I’m ready for the weekend to begin– I have a fun one planned! 8-)

Workout

I started my morning with an awesome run on the treadmill at the gym. I covered a little over 3.5 miles and then walked for another mile or so while catching up with my celebrity gossip in US Weekly. (I’m so behind with that too!)

I’ve come to the conclusion that there are 2 types of people: people who love running and can’t live without it and people who don’t like running even if they try.

I love running and it makes me sad to not be able do it. Plus, running is so relaxing for me. I love having the time alone to think and talk to myself (in my head) while I run. Running is also an amazing stress-reliever, especially after a tough day! As cheesy as it sounds, when I can’t go out for a run, I feel like there is something missing from my life.

Even though my hip isn’t 100%, it’s definitely getting better. After running 8.5 miles in San Francisco, over the course of two days, my hip was only slightly sore. It was more annoying than painful. I just love running so much, a 3-4 mile run once a week is definitely do-able for me. I just need to make sure to listen to my body and not push it too far.

Breakfast

DELICIOUS breakfast this morning! :-D I could seriously eat another bowl!

I ended up mixing about 1/4 cup of the pomegranate pumpkin sauce from last night into my usual bowl of oats. I also added some vanilla soy milk, a splash of water, and 1 tbsp of ground flaxseed meal.

Omg, my oats were amazing– creamy, sweet, zingy, satisfying, and totally scrumptious. There will likely be a breakfast repeat tomorrow morning! ;-)

I also had a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk and agave nectar. It was an awesome Friday morning breakfast!

I love running. I ran this morning as well. I was not able to run for several months earlier this year and it was very frustrating. However, I learned to appreciate the benefits of cycling and got back into swimming. Once I was able to run, I did two triathlons so it worked out. :) However, I think it’s extremely important to take your time and listen to your body when it comes to running because it can be hard on your body.

I love how I feel afterward, so that pushes me to try harder and go further. I recently started running a few times a week and have worked up to 3 miles, it’s hard to *hate* progress! Now I just need to get my speed up to match my new “endurance”!

Some days I like running, other days I love it. But I don’t get that you think during running. One of the aspects about running I do love is that I DON’T think- I just run. It clears my head so well. I just feel the music.

I really thought I hated it my whole life, but once I worked at it a little I definitely understand why people love it! Although it can be really tough, I feel so amazing after a good run. I think I might be addicted ;-)

I HATE running, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s genetic. Everyone in my family has tried to like it, but we just don’t find it fun. :( I do love dancing, pilates, and swimming, though!

I love running but I had a cross country coach in high school that pushed me to train too far, like 60 miles in one week too far, so needless to say I have horrible knees and shin splits now 6 years later and still can’t run. I have found that I also love spinning so I do this in place of runs.

I like to run. I used to love it, but I was thinner and it hurt less. As I truly work on living a healthy life, I will begin to love it again:). I’ll tell you what I do love – that my kids see me running, that they sometimes come with me in their stroller, and they’re learning that it’s a way of life!

I LOVE running! My week is not complete unless I get a few good outdoor runs in. Unfortunately my leg has been hurting, and I can’t go past 3 miles lately, and have cut back on my runs all together. This has been driving me crazy. It makes me sad not to be able to get out on the trails and run.

I use to hate running though. It is tough, but now my outlook on it has changed!

I HATE running, while I love to workout I do not enjoy running and honestly do not think I ever will. I will stick to other forms of cardio, weights and yoga :)

Ugh….I know how you feel…I have irritated tendons in the top of my foot after my marathon 2 weeks ago and still can’t run! I never thought I was one of those people who couldn’t live without running, but I miss it SO BAD!

You know what, up until about three weeks ago I used to hate it because I was “afraid” to run outside and just did the treadmill. It was boring and difficult, and even though I felt proud of myself afterward and liked how quickly it got me into shape, I almost never looked forward to it.

I honestly think that I treated exercise in general like a torture device to try and lose weight and “punish” myself for eating more than I should have, etc. etc. Once I figured out that working out didn’t contribute to my weight loss, but that it was more about my diet, I vowed to just work out when I felt like it and to do what felt good.

Now I run outside, 3 miles, twice a week. At first I felt like I didn’t belong with all the other runners outside, because they all looked so professional and were SO fast! But I found a route that I love (the JP Pond, for those of you who live in the Boston area) and it’s just beautiful – I see dogs chasing after ducks, people walking and running with with loved ones or friends, kids playing, the leaves changing, and then it started to turn into something that I not only enjoy but look forward to!

I’m running my first 5K with a friend during the first weekend in December, and I’m pumped for it! NOW I actually feel like a runner and understand why people love it so much. I’m glad that I gave it a chance!

Now I just need new running shoes…lol

I have hip issues too so I can’t run as much as I would like, but I love it when I can. I usually run twice a week about 5 miles each run. I figure that is better than nothing and my body can take that. I do the elliptical on my off days and I do strength training, yoga, etc. too.

Running and I have a love/hate relationship, haha. I am slowly trying to build my running routine back but after a knee injury from overdoing it I keep hitting mental blocks. Thanks for the inspiring post!

I definitely have a love/hate thing goin on with running. I get into lengths of time where i LOVE it and am running almost every day and just can’t get enough of it. This happened twice in the past year for a couple months each time. But the rest of time I was not feelin the running.

I sort of have been into it again, unfortunately it’s getting colder out and I am a much bigger fan of running outside than I am of the treadmill. So we shall see!

I absolutely love running, and I especially love running in the fall. I love to smell and breathe in the crisp, cool air. I use it as a stress reliever, and I definitely talk to myself while I run. I hate running with an ipod or anything else. Running is ‘me’ time, and I love to just think as I run…personally, the music ruins it for me! I might be wierd, but I love training for marathons…my next is in Philly next weekend, yikes!

Dare I say it? I *hate* running. I think it’s the swimmer in me – we always told the cross country runners “Your sport is our punishment!” I really, really want to love it. I do! But, it’s really hard for me for some reason. I’ve tried so many times to stick with it. But, I haven’t been successful. Now that I’m training for another triathlon, I HAVE to run. The run was by far the weakest part of my tri. I’m getting better – I swear. If anyone has any tips to get over this crazy hatred, I’m all ears. I’m ready to try anything. I am jealous of anyone that can go out and just run. :)

Courtney November 13, 2009 at 11:54 am

I’m a combo. I either have “good” runs or “bad” runs. The bad runs are when I feel like my legs are lead and I can barely run a block, wheezing and moaning. But then I have a good run where my legs are pumping, lungs are good and I’m winning the “mental” game of running. I caught myself with a HUGE smile on my face 3 miles into a run last weekend and I thought “who is this girl?”

I never thought I would be a runner, and I don’t think I am a runner yet. But I am slowly getting there. It is really hard for me to fit running into my schedule with all my other workouts. Work in progress!!!

I want to be able to love running but right now I hate it because I can’t run very far and it ends up making me miserable being out of breath. I want to be able to run for at least 3 miles without stopping but it seems like such an impossible goal when you can only run 1/4 of a mile before being out of breath! :(

I really enjoy running…this coming from someone who used to hate it. About 6 years ago I tried the Couch to 5K program and fell in love. I’ve completed the program about three times and now run once or twice a week…nothing crazy but it works for me. Have a great Friday!

It’s strange–I’m an avid runner and have been for 8 years. I guess this would imply that I love running. I wouldn’t say that I love it all the time, though. I very much have a love/hate relationship with running. I love how it makes me feel (empowered) and I love what it does for my legs and endurance, but I hate that it occasionally injures me :( I have a hamstring injury that keeps resurfacing, no matter how much PT I do. Like you, Tina, I have learned to be satisfied with running a few times a week, as opposed to several.

Hmm…I guess the other thing I sometimes ‘hate’ about running is that, when I have an off day, I tend to internalize it and believe my running ability has waned overnight. But I think this might be more of a personal problem than a problem inherent to running ;)

I want to run, but running does not seem to love me. I get the same stress relief/contemplation time from walking though, so I understand what you mean.

I love running, when I was in highschool I struggled running 1mile. Its been about 10 years since HS now and I absolutely love running. I wouldn’t call myself a runner but I try to run 6miles couple times a week and 3miles on other days. It helps me clear my head, think straight and I love that good feeling after a nice long run!

I have bad knees and ankles and running is torture on them and me. However, I can do Bikram Yoga with no issue at all. It is to me what running is for you. If I don’t do it something is missing from my life and day. Hope you have a great weekend. BTW, that PB and banana mash looks amazing.

Hey Tina,

Congrats on getting back on the running train…I am definitely on the “love” side with that one! Still, I know what you mean– I’ve been training for my firs half-marathon, which is next week, and I’ll definitely be glad to take a little break from running for a while. I think the hardest part about following a running training schedule is all of the other physical activity (strength training, other cardio, etc.) that you kind of have to give up, or at least cut way back on.

If you want to catch up on Us Weekly and the like, I have a pop culture blog: http://www.palecoin2.wordpress.com– check it out sometime!

I WISH I loved running. It is mental thing for me, I haven’t overcome it yet. I have to find other ways to exercise so I am not unhappy doing it. Just wanted to comment that your photography is excellent. It is so fun to see how far you have come with it. I am hoping the same happens for me :-) . Happy weekend!

i have a love/hate relationship with running. i love how strong my body feels when im running, and i usually love the results i see. however, i hate how i very, very easily consume WAY too many calories when i run on a regular basis. it makes me ravenous, even when im careful about having enough protein/carbs, etc. my eating gets out of control if i run a few days in a row. i try to keep it to about twice a week. pilates, weights, etc does not effect my appetite.

on a different note, i hope i can find the ingredients needed to make your pumpkin sauce, because woo-boy am i excited to make it! looks so, so good!!

I love love love running. It’s funny because of all the things I do including career, cooking, writing, etc, I would say running is ahead of all those things. It is my thing, it is what I do. I train really hard for races, but I love every minute of it. I definitely don’t feel the same if I don’t get out for a run (or two) in a day.

I want to love running! I just started the Couch to 5K program!!! I hope it helps me because I’m tired of having to DRIVE to the gym 15 minutes away, work out drive home… and that monthly fee. yeah running is free and looks great when you really get into the groove of things, so that’s what I hope to do!

I LOVE it! Addicted. I’m so depressed right now not training, but the thought of a marathon alone is so daunting. I miss having running partners :/ I ran 4 today on a swollen knee so I understand the can’t live w/o it. Nothing else gives you that high.

Bekah November 13, 2009 at 5:06 pm

I’m gonna have to disagree with you Miss Tina: I’ve only recently started trying to run, for like reals. (Going for 3+ miles runs every other day or so.) I really did used to hate running. I can’t say I love it yet, its hard every single day- but I like the way it makes me feel, and I like the camaraderie/high spirits/positive energy at races, and the feeling when you hit the pavement outside in the early am. But I don’t love it.
So I don’t think it’s that black/white, I think there are lots of different kinds of people out there. :)
