Good morning, bloggies!
Thanks for all of your kind and supportive comments on my posts yesterday. I swear that I will tell you guys what’s going on– I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and explain everything the way I want to. I promise it’s coming soon!
Check out Caitlin’s huge giveaway for Operation Beautiful! There’s lots of goodies!!!
Workout
Guess what I did at the gym this morning? I RAN!!! I ran a whole 2 miles on the treadmill, pain-free. It was awesome!
Now that my hip is better, I’m really trying to STAY healthy. I warmed-up on the elliptical for 15 minutes and then foam-rolled my IT band for about 10 minutes after my run. I also did 3 sets of crunches and push-ups before leaving the gym.
I’m so happy to be running again!!!
Breakfast
After the gym, I was not craving my usual bowl of oats. I wanted something cold and creamy, so I threw together a chocolate-strawberry smoothie. Mmmmm!
- 1 cup fresh strawberries
- 1/2 packet of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (chocolate)
- 1/2 bottle of Odwalla Pink Poetry fruit smoothie
- Splash of vanilla soy milk
- Handful of ice cubes
The star ingredient of this morning’s breakfast was Odwalla’s Pink Poetry fruit smoothie.
Since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, I thought it would be nice to highlight Odwalla’s newest Superfood smoothie since it helps raise awareness and supports The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Odwalla will contribute $25,000 to the Foundation.

The Pink Poetry flavor is made with plum, dark sweet cherry, guava and other juices, along with hibiscus, cranberry, and green tea extracts. It also contains antioxidant Vitamins C & E, as well as iron and calcium– two things often lacking in women’s diets.
Question of the Day
What is your local grocery store? Do you shop there?

I’m #1 to comment. Woo Hoo!
I love Stop & Shop because they sell my fav Teddie peanut butter with flax seed. Amazingly delish on Arnold Health Whole Wheat toast with a little drizzle of honey.
Of course we have Harris Teeter down here in the south, but I’m too loyal to Whole Foods! If we had Trader Joe’s, I’d definitely be there half the time…
Props to Odwalla for the great contribution. It’s for an awesome cause.
I checked right away this morning for an update on yesterday’s cliffhanger posts! I can’t wait to hear what you’re cooking up! I know it will be good
Wegmans. In fact, Buffalo is sort of known for Wegmans! Shopping there helps me get over moving away from the Whole Foods in NYC!
Looks like such a yummy smoothie!
My local grocery store is Loblaws. It’s kind of expensive, but I don’t have much of a choice with not having a car. At least it’s organic section is getting really good these days.
I’m in Northern California so my regular stores are Trader Joes and Raleys. This is in addition to my year-round, weekly farmers market trips to get fish, eggs, meat and produce.
Also, congrats on the change!
Here in Australia, Coles. Back in the states, Trader Joe’s all the way. And Market Basket for some dealzzzzzzzz
My closest is actually Trader Joe’s, I consider myself lucky that I can walk there! We sometimes will go to Whole Foods but hardly ever Shaws or Stop and Shop. It’s not that I am against them I just get more excitement and the experience is more enjoyable at TJ’s and Whole Foods.
I’m in NH…. so Hannafords, but we also have some local grocery stores I also go to, for veggies we have our CSA.
That smoothie looks great.
Sometimes I wish I was a runner but I seriously can’t control my breathing to be able to run for longer periods of time. My PT and I are slowly working on that though.
I shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Kroger and our local health food store called Ellwood Thompson’s. In the summer, I am big time into farmer’s markets, too.
Our local store is Hyvee. I do quiet a bit of shopping there, but sometimes they’re just so darn expensive. Glad your run was successful!
Geyers…just if I need something quick! Congrats on the run!
I’m in NYC, so my local grocery store is D’Agostino’s – only a block away. But I definitely prefer to go the extra 13 blocks to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and the farmers’ market. Totally worth the walk.
Publix! Yes, I stop in at least 3 times a week or so. I stop in Fresh Market, which is kinda like Whole Foods light, or the local health foods store maybe once a month or so.
While there’s a Giant within walking distance of my apartment, I really only shop there when I discover I need something last minute and for some bulk items (huge tubs of oats and brown rice). They surprisingly have a decent natural foods isle so I’ll usual pick up some coconut water or Kashi products while I’m there, too. For my big weekend grocery trip I trek the extra couple miles to the Trader Joes. There’s a Whole Foods across the street so whatever is missing from TJ’s I pick up there.
I can’t wait to hear your big announcement!
My closest grocery store is Publix, and I shop these pretty often. It holds me over in between my trips to Whole Foods which is not as close to my house. I wish I had Trader Joes!! Looking forward to hearing your announcement
i can’t wait to hear your big news!
I love odwalla drinks!!
Delicious smoothie!!! As for local store.. living in NC, it’s Harris Teeter and Food Lion. THe hubster and I shop at our local co-op, the Weaver Street Market, though! Often, Ill drop into Trader Joes or Whole Foods for something that our co-op may be out of or something (YES we have all of the above within a 5 mile radius!!).
One of my local faves is this place called Ream’s. It’s super cheap, with most prices comparable to Wal-Mart. Some things are kind of pricey, but you usually just have to wait for them to go o n sale. Some examples of tier weekly specials: pork roast .99/lb, apples .69/lb, cottage cheese .88/16 oz. Pretty good! I always love shopping there.
i love that you highlighted a product contributing to breast cancer awareness. such an important issue that hits close to home for many.
my local grocery is publix – a chain in the southeast. love it!
We have a plethora of stores here and I pretty much rotate between all of them depending on who has what on sale: we have Kroger, Meijer, Walmart, and Target. We also have one Whole Foods but it’s not very convenient and a handful of other local health food stores like Rainbow Blossom and Amazing Grace. Oh and a Fresh Market. So the choices are endless really, but I haven’t found just one place that I can get everything for the best prices so I shop around a lot. We also have Sam’s Club and Costco. Gosh, I didn’t realize how much we had until now
Cannot wait to hear what the cliffhanger is!! In the meantime, congrats on the pain free run!! Must be so exciting to finally be on the right track with your hip.
My local grocery stores are “european style” markets such as Caputos or Eurofresh. We love shopping there because the delis have such great deals for my hubby’s lunch meat and the produce selection is huge and usually good quality for a good price. I just did a post this morning on bargain shopping…please stop by and leave a tip!

Adventures in Tri-ing
I’m in central Indiana and my local chain grocery stores are Marsh and Kroger. We also have Meijer, Target and Walmart. I don’t like shopping at the big box stores and prefer Trader Joes and Whole Foods if we have time to head up there. I also like Costco for produce and frozen foods!
Delicious looking smoothie! Nice work on your run, girl — glad to hear it was enjoyable!
We live near Minneapolis and am really close to a Cub and Super Target. I would much rather go to Super Target any dya of the week! I make Trader Joe’s and Costco/Sams run occasionally too.
I have Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s within about .5 miles of each other though I generally stick with Trader Joe’s. My only …beef..with TJ’s is that they don’t have kale! I dream of TJ’s one day having a bigger produce section.
OMG… waiting to hear your new job news is driving me crazy! Especially since I’ve been contemplating a more health-oriented job change that would allow me to be a health educator and writer (and I work in higher ed too!)
Congratulations! Having done a major career change before and also smaller job changes, I know this is both a crazy scary and crazy exciting time for you!
Also, thanks for the smoothie idea and the Odwalla shout-out. That sounds delish and might break me from my egg sandwich breakfast rut.
great morning workout! I bet you feel energized now!
local groceries? Mom’s organic? I usually just shop at Hmart, Tj’s and WF.
Congrats on your run! Doesn’t it make you feel deliriously happy when you’re able to run without any pain? It sounds like such a simple pleasure, but after suffering through my own running injury, I will never take it for granted again!
Very excited to hear your news! I love reading about the major life changes that are popping up on so many blogs recently. It really inspires me to work extra hard, so that one day I can do what I love – and really desire to do – on a full-time basis: write fiction.
Again, congratulations on your resignation and your run! Both exciting things
In regards to the latter, foam rollers are great…I swear by them. I also really like “The Stick” for treating/avoiding IT Band pain.
Great news about the hip and awesome job on the 2 miles. It probably felt so great to get back into running from being away for a while. I love a good run!
I am partial to Whole foods but Wegman’s can get me all the time. With the selection and samples and and…lol. I could spend all day. I love to grocery shop.
I can’t wait to here about your new plan. You have inspired me to write a 60 day plan. I am miserable at my job right now and I am too scared to change but I realize that I have to change for me and for my life. Thanks again for all of your inspiration you truely are a wonderful person
Congratulations on your run Tina! I love my foam roller! Great for Pilates and for working out the kinks in my neck and shoulders!
congrats on the run! our local grocery store is called Rouse’s and I shop there sometimes, but the produce tends to be pricey, so I either get that at Sam’s or the produce stand…I also live next to neighborhood walmart, so I shop there sometimes as well
Congrats on the run!
Right now my grocery stores are WHole Foods and Eastside Market in Providence. When I was home in MA, we hit up Hannafords, Price Chopper, Stop & Shop, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Roche Bros. We loved to shop around
I have that glass too:) Our local store is Dan’s Foods. We try to shop there because we love supporting local businesses. This summer we have been lucky to most of our shopping at the farmer’s market though. We just go to Dan’s for other items-like milk, cereal, etc. I also like Sunflower Market. Good job on your run!
CONGRATS Tina – I am truly excited for you and can’t wait to hear what’s in store for you!!
My local grocery store is Hy-vee – a Midwestern chain. Love it!
glad you had a good run!
Not sure about local…we have Walmart, Kroger and Food Lion.
D’agostino is around the corner but it is SO expensive. I stick with the farmer’s market, whole foods and trader joes
i love New Seasons-it’s a local (porland or!) chain of whole foods style stores…
but just like whole foods, i can’t buy all my groceries there or i’d go broke
odwalla smoothies are great! the green ones are packed with tons of good stuff.
awesome that you got to run! hope your hip is holding up well.
Ugh, I was so hoping to hear the big news this morning! You’re killing us over here!
The smoothie looks delish. I love the Odwalla drinks. When I worked at Starbucks, I would have a green one every morning but now they’re too expensive.
I live in a town of 10,000 so we don’t have much of a variety: Safeway & City Market (but we call it something else!)
So glad about your hip! Mine is feeling better, too and I’m looking forward to finally running my first 5K next Sat!
Yum on the smoothie!
I probably spend the most time (and money) at my local Trader Joe’s!
Here is Albany, NY, you can find me at Price Chopper or our local food co-op. But I’d love a nice Trader Joe’s around here.
There are so many companies doing funraisers and benefits for Breast Cancer Month and it’s awesome! Just yesterday we bought food for the cat, only to find that well-known pink ribbon on the bag!
I like my local Trader Joe’s because it easy and affordable. Harris Teeter is in my hood too… but can be a little pricey
Congrats on your run this morning! I hope you stay injury free
My neighborhood grocery store is Harris Teeter, so I go there if I run out of something but I always do my weekly shop at Trader Joe’s.. it’s cheaper and it has a good selection of organic food.
Hip hip hooray for running!!! I’ve been nursing an injury (gosh, for too long now) but I am so grateful for every mile I get pain-free! Hope your hip stays healthy!! I shop and WFs and TJs!! I’m so glad they are both very local. I am only feeding myself so I can get small quantities of the good stuff. I don’t waste a bite of food either so a little goes a long way.
Trader Joe’s, baby! Rock on, Brookline
Good Job on your run today! Don’t you just love the foam roller? I usually shop at the commissary on base on Ramstein AFB in Germany. Because the exchange rate is so bad here, I don’t buy things off base as often as I used to. I do however still make it to the farmers markets on the weekends for my whipped honey.
