Good morning, bloggies!
Thanks for all of your kind and supportive comments on my posts yesterday. I swear that I will tell you guys what’s going on– I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and explain everything the way I want to. I promise it’s coming soon!
Check out Caitlin’s huge giveaway for Operation Beautiful! There’s lots of goodies!!!
Workout
Guess what I did at the gym this morning? I RAN!!! I ran a whole 2 miles on the treadmill, pain-free. It was awesome!
Now that my hip is better, I’m really trying to STAY healthy. I warmed-up on the elliptical for 15 minutes and then foam-rolled my IT band for about 10 minutes after my run. I also did 3 sets of crunches and push-ups before leaving the gym.
I’m so happy to be running again!!!
Breakfast
After the gym, I was not craving my usual bowl of oats. I wanted something cold and creamy, so I threw together a chocolate-strawberry smoothie. Mmmmm!
- 1 cup fresh strawberries
- 1/2 packet of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (chocolate)
- 1/2 bottle of Odwalla Pink Poetry fruit smoothie
- Splash of vanilla soy milk
- Handful of ice cubes
The star ingredient of this morning’s breakfast was Odwalla’s Pink Poetry fruit smoothie.
Since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, I thought it would be nice to highlight Odwalla’s newest Superfood smoothie since it helps raise awareness and supports The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Odwalla will contribute $25,000 to the Foundation.

The Pink Poetry flavor is made with plum, dark sweet cherry, guava and other juices, along with hibiscus, cranberry, and green tea extracts. It also contains antioxidant Vitamins C & E, as well as iron and calcium– two things often lacking in women’s diets.
Question of the Day
What is your local grocery store? Do you shop there?

Whole Food Market, Trader Joes are close to work..Congratulations on the run.
I am still waiting to hear your big news! Yayyy for a great pain free run!
Here in Canada my neighborhood grocery store is Superstore. It has a big selection and a really good stock of organic foods and produce and it is cheap.
The first thing I did today was check your blog……can’t wait to hear the news!!!
Glad you were able to run!!! Enjoy your day!
Ukrops, great salad bar and premade food + a grill/cafe however can be pricey for everyday groceries so I rarely shop there for necessities. I think it just recently got bought out though? Hmmm…
Congrats on having a good run this morning! I am a big fan of Fresh Market and our local co-op. When I visit my parents in NC, I spend a lot of time in Harris Teeter — love that place!
I am crazy about grocery shopping. We go to Costco weekly. Then we usually hit PCC, a small natural foods chain (I think there is 7 locations in the area?). If I need something that I can’t get at either of those, I go to QFC (a Kroger store). Our truly local store in town, I’ve only been in once. Seems like a fine store but it isn’t as convenient as the QFC.
Congrats on the run! I’m so happy for you–and it’s great that you are taking things slowly! I didn’t during my first hip injury–and go figure, I got another one in my OTHER hip! Lesson learned
I live by lots of Asian grocers so I do a lot of my shopping there; my local store is really overpriced so I usually avoid it and opt for TJs or a different standard supermarket a few miles away.
Unfortunately, in WV we don’t have Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, which are 2 of my favorite stores. However, I do shop at Kroger for mostly everything. Our Kroger actually has an excellent gourmet foods section with many things carried at Whole Foods regularly. I also shop at the Healthy Life Market (a cute little organic section in a local drug store) and the local farmer’s market. But I still wish Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s was close.
Local groceries are Stop & Shop, Hannaford & Roche Bros. I will go to those but I prefer shopping moe at either the Fruit Center in Milton, MA (been shopping here for years and loveit!) or Whole Foods. Can’t wait to hear what your big news is.
in socal we have a little of everything, ralphs (expensive), vons (average), staters bro (cheap). i shop at stater bros with some trader joes and costco mixed in. variety is the spice of life!
My local grocery store is Trader Joe’s which makes me kind of hate it! That place is good for some things, but lacks fresh fish, fruits and veg that you can buy just one of if you want etc. I wish wish wish we had a “normal” grocery store near by. Since I live downtown with no car, it’s hard to avoid!
Great job on the run–can’t wait to hear what’s going on!
Hmm I try to do a lot of shopping at Jimbo’s…a local health food store but I typically shop at Ralph’s for all of my everyday items for the kitchen!
I am an Upstate New Yorker living in Arlington, VA and will also have a special place in my heart for Wegmans. I even travel the 45 minutes once a month to get my Wegmans fix, even though there are Harris Teeters on every block!
Safeway is our major local grocery store. I split my groceries between Safeway and Trader Joes. I always look at what is on sale at Safeway to decide what I will pick up there and then get everything else at TJs. I have to make two trips when I do my shopping, but planning ahead and only shopping once a week makes it not too bad and it save us money so that helps too!
Most of our local grocery stores are chains, but we do have Foods of All Nations. It’s this great little store that has great food from many countries. After I took a trip to India, I wandered in and was pleased to find some of my Indian favorites in the store.
The nice thing about it is they have some items that are from other parts of the country. I’d been craving spiedies, but I live in the South. Thankfully, they have Spiedie Sauce at the store!
I would say Hannaford, Roche Brothers, Shaws and Stop and Shop. I love to shop at Hannaford!
Here in the southwest we have a great chain called Sprouts, which is like a local Whole Foods. They always have great fresh produce, an amazing deli, and great deals!
Stoppies, Shaws and Roche bros. are closet to me, but I’m a snob so I go to Whole Foods Hingham for groceries
I do hit up stoppies for little things wf doesn’t have, and shows too. Like sabra hummus and ezekiel cinnamon raisin english muffins…and natures promise dried fruit.
The closest local grocery is called Calandro’s. They’re ok food-wise, but have an excellent wine and beer selection.
I shop from them, Whole Foods, Target, Albertson’s, and Fresh Pickins (a local open air market). If I’m feeling ambitious I also hit up the asian markets. We have a lot in my town, for Hicksville!
In Hawaii I go to the Farmer’s Market and this vegetarian supermarket called Down to Earth haha I am not vegetarian. Whole Foods opened recently but you have to sell your first born to shop there in Hawaii it is way to high but I do buy one or 2 things there thats it! Costco for my vegetables and some meat and blieve it or not Safeway we have a giant one here! I really really miss Shop n Kart and Market of Choice in Ashland though. I must say they are my ultimate favorite.
Congratulations! Always feels good to get back to activity.
We have two local markets, one large grocer and one smaller. Both carry a great selection of produce and whole foods, so I definitely enjoy shopping at both. We head over to the nearest major town once every couple of weeks or so to hit up Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods (they have specials too!), and a major grocer that has an awesome bulk department.
We have three in town: Stop & Shop, Price Chopper and Big Y. I shop at Stop & SHop because I love selection, deals, and prices. Besides I’ve been shopping there since I was in seminary so I knew they had my stuff. I love that I can get things like PB and Co peanut butter and a decent organic/health food selection in addition to their awesome in store organic brand.
I can’t wait to hear you big news!
I have a bunch near me. I go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Market Basket weekly. I love grocery shopping
When I’m at home in the States, I go to a great local place called George’s Shop N Bag, great products, great people. Otherwise, I go to the Fresh Market (originally from North Carolina). I LOVE what they offer and their store. And finally, the standard Whole Foods is always a safe bet!
I shop at Jewel, midwest chain. Good thing is their organic/healthfood section keeps getting bigger. Now its an entire aisle. Memorial Day to Labor Day I will get most of the produce from Farmers market.
my local grocery store is stop and shop! i lovess it there!
jenna
can’t wait to hear all about your story!!
I’m a Hy-Vee girl all the way…Midwest grocery chain!
Can’t wait for the story!
I will have to try this drink, looks great!
Great news about the hip! Just remember to take it slow and not overdo it—too much, too fast can make an injury flare up again!
I can’t take the suspense! Wishing you all the best on your new adventure!
I shop at & love PUBLIX!!! It was rated one of the TOP 10 GROCERY STORES NATIONAL WIDE at aol.com! And, it totally is to me! They offer a huge varity of items and fresh fruits, veggies, meats & baked good (yummy). Plus, they are very affordable. GO PUBLIX!!! =) Laura
Tina – Thanks for the mention! We’re so excited that Pink Poetry is now available and doing so well. We’ve posted a link to your special recipe at the Odwalla Facebook Fan page.
glad your hip’s feeling better – i shop mostly at trader joe’s and the local farmer’s market.
My “local” store is technially Stop & Shop (LOVE nature’s promise!), but I go to Demoulas/Market Basket most of the time because it’s so much cheaper. That smoothie sounds DELISH though, I’ll have to try it!
my local store is Kroger! they have really made a hugeeeeeeee up on their organic and health food section. i spend so much time sifting through there everytime when i’m there! i always try to get something different each time!
