Old Habits Are Hard to Break

October 9, 2009

That they are!

How did that end up in my hand?!? 8-O

I’m supposed to be reining-in my spending, yet somehow I ended up buying a pumpkin-flavored coffee from Starbucks this morning.

I did, however, manage to justify my purchase. I forgot my travel mug with freshly brewed coffee in it on my kitchen counter, so, of course, I needed coffee. I couldn’t go through the whole day without my caffeine fix!

Man, I need to get it together. :-?

Lunch

For lunch, I made a homemade salad with Romaine, tomato, cucumber, and leftover peanut noodles from last night’s dinner. The noodles tasted so much better cold! Delish! Maybe that’s a peanut noodle secret?

Afternoon Snack

As expected, I took part in Cookie Friday this afternoon. I went with an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and a pot of tea from the Cafe Gato Rojo.

I tried a new kind of tea today: Mt. Olympus. I liked it, but didn’t love it. As the description says, it’s very “delicate,” but I guess I prefer my tea with a bit more flavor to it.

I’m going to miss the Cafe Gato Rojo so much! It’s been the perfect blogging location for the last 9.5 months. I’ve spent so much time here– it almost feels like a home away from home. I hope I can find a new place just as good!

Rockin’ Friday Night

I have a rockin’ Friday night planned, let me tell you! I’m staying home and CLEANING my apartment. Don’t be jealous! ;-)

Ever since we moved into our new place, it’s been in complete shambles… and now it’s disorganized and dirty. Eww! My apartment is actually starting to give me anxiety, so Mal and I are spending the entire evening organizing, rearranging, and scrubbing it from top to bottom. I’m actually sort of looking forward to it!

Question of the Day

What is your “bad” habit?

I hate it when my place gets all messy and disorganized. I feel it makes my brain feel that way too… not good. My bad habit is going to bed with dirty dishes IN THE SINK… though I am making progress with IT! :)

I had just about kicked my caffeine fixes back in the U.S. but since moving to Japan and starting to rise at 6:00 on the mornings I work, I need the extra help to get up and get moving. They are back and with a vengeance. That’s my bad habit!

Cold peanut noodles are better…yummy! My bad habit would be Diet Coke and not bringing my own lunch to work. I have gotten better about that one though!

Quick Q: Do you usually prepare full number of servings in a recipe when you cook, or do you scale it down to serve just you and Mal?
Cute teapot!

Eating until I feel on the verge of exploding… usually as a result of too much bread and/or sugar!

@BroccoliHut: Yep, we usually half recipes– unless we plan to eat the leftovers for lunch or the next night.

@Natasha: Soon! We still need to hang stuff on the walls. :)

My bad habit is drinking too much coffee. I am a serious addict. I feel like you can’t hit in my URL without seeing a mug of coffee pop up…bad, bad, bad!

My bad habit is definitely a Diet Coke addiction; I just can’t stop!

Your peanut noodles look yummy and I love that cute pic of your tea pot and cookie!

Tina, thanks for sharing that article on NYC and calorie postings. I will say that I definitely think twice before I order now that the calories are right in front of me. For instance, getting that cookie at subway with my healthy sub or getting a treat at starbucks, but most importantly dunkin’ donuts muffins!!! Also, I have noticed that some chains have taken it upon themselves to have healthier options since the calorie posting. IE: Starbucks Rice Krispie treat went from 500 to 240 calories. While I wouldn’t have treated myself to a 500 calorie rice krispie treat sometimes I feel OK about treating myself to the 240 calorie version – and I think it tastes even better!!! Now granted, I don’t fit the criteria of their test group, but I just wanted to share my opinion as someone who lives in NYC. I think it’s a great addition! It helps you stay more accountable.

I agree, cold peanut noodles are the best. I think the flavors just have time to merry and meld together!
I saw that article about the NYC calorie postings. I found it really interesting that even though people saw how many calories were in something, they didn’t really change their decision. I think the problem is they see 600 or 700 calories, but they don’t really know how many calories they should eat total, so it doesn’t seem like such a big number.

Unfortunately it is over eating. I am mostly over eating on healthy foods, but it is still having an effect on my waist line.

Haha, I too spent my Friday night cleaning. My project of choice was steam cleaning the carpets. I started on just the bad spots, but the machine was already out, so I went to town.
