Sonic on the Brain

September 5, 2009

If you’re from New England, you’ve probably heard the buzz surrounding the opening of the first Sonic in the area. Supposedly, there was a 6-mile back-up of traffic on the day it opened! People were waiting hours to get their Sonic!

To be honest, I don’t understand why people are so excited, but I’m willing to try anything once. Mal and our friends are psyched to visit Sonic for lunch today, so I will be partaking in the Sonic action too. I don’t want to be a party pooper! What would you order off the menu?

Because of our planned Sonic lunch date, I kept breakfast light this morning. I ate an egg and cheese on an Arnold Sandwich Thin.

We’re out of homemade iced coffee, so we’re heading to Starbucks. I’m bringing my travel mug for an iced coffee with soy milk. :-D

I have family in TX where Sonics abound. The food is NASTY. Really, no different than eating at McD’s or any other fast food joint. My husband loves the flavored sodas but to me they just taste like chemicals. The ice cream drinks also are totally artificial and just not that good. If am gonna splurge I would much rather have good quality stuff like your wonderful JP Licks!

I live in TN and we have them everywhere. I love the diet cherry limeades… and definitely their pb milkshake!! Fries are not even worth the calories… they’re flimsy and not good. The tots are yummy, though! I also love their breakfast toasters… I don’t know that i have ever had their burgers, though!

The food from Sonic is pretty gross so nothing to get too happy over!

Oh yeah and the onion rings aren’t crispy at all, they are soft and sweet and they are icky, don’t order them.

i remember my first sonic experience! I was in North Carolina, and like i was sooooo excited. I didnt order anything crazy, but i think the whole thrill was the fact that you ordered car side! to me that was so much fun for some reason! hehehe…..i can’t wait to hear what you got!

really? that much excitement for Sonic?

Hm..one of my favorites and NOT light at all is their grilled cheese. It’s on texas toast and really good and thick.

I also LOVE their fresh fruit slushes. Lime is the best.

I’m sure I’m WAY too late, but if you ever go to Sonic again… I go for either the chicken fingers (they’re served with gravy) or the cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, and mayo and ALWAYS tater tots!!! I hardly ever eat there, so when I do go for the splurge, it tastes darn good!

Whoa….can’t believe people are making such a big deal over Sonic! I’m not a huge fan of the food, but I LOVE their commercials…they’re so cute :)

Edited to add: I meant people in Boston, lining up for miles and such…not people commenting on your post – sorry if that came out wrong!! :)

What I’d want: the Fritos wrap, but at 669 cals, I’ll pass. I’d end up with the Grilled Santa Fe Wrap.

Your home-made Egg McTina looks amazingly simple yet delish.

My fiance was actually just in that traffic on his way up to Maine. I want to go soon! I am excited for your Sonic post…yay Sonic!

Who would wait that long for food from any restaurant…especially fast food?

I hope you enjoy what you get.

Here’s the deal: The food isn’t a big deal.. It’s the drinks. Don’t give it up until you at least try:

1. Lo Cal Diet Limeade (0 points in Weight Watcher’s World)
2. Strawberry Limeade.

That’s what’s great about. I just wish i could get it in my own cup to cut down on the massive styrofoam use.. Happy slurping. :)

I first head of Sonic when I was in Arkansas visiting my family a few years ago (I’m from Northern California, and I love going through the south and seeing all of their interesing chains :) . It was during the summer time and I saw adds on TV for the most delicious-looking milkshakes-that summer it was “Peach Pie Shakes,” made with peach ice cream and chunks of real peach pie in the shake! I wanted one so badly but I never got one that trip. I’ve been to the Sonic in Florida, and it is typical fast food, but it is cool how they come out on rollerskates/rollerblades. I still want to have a shake sometime soon…hope you had fun there today! :)

I live in San Diego and don’t think we have a Sonic…..at least I’ve never seen one and never have been to one. I’m excited to see your reviews. My favorite burger place is In N Out although I have been in a long time. Their fries do suck though.

I don’t get it either, but my friends were some of the people in those 6 hour lines! Crazy if you ask me

WOW, many Sonic haters. lol.. It’s big here in TX. I’m addicted to Sonic ice!!! Sonic has awesome tots. Plus happy Hour is really great…1/2 Price Drinks baby! I’ts not like McDonals, it’s a good ole fashion drive thru.

Lauren September 5, 2009 at 8:02 pm

Funny, people here rave about Sonic too, but really, I don’t see it. I really don’t care for fast food at all, and Sonic just didn’t seem any different.

Oh well, to each his own right. Now give me a cool new Vegetarian fast food place, and I’ll be all over that!

For some reason that simple egg and cheese brekky looks delicious. What kind of cheese did you use?

Sorry you had to wait all that time for Sonic – I lived in TX for a while where there were Sonics everywhere. Definitely no big deal, although honestly I don’t think I ever ate there?? Here in NC we have Five Guys and my husband loves it. Perhaps i’ll give it a go! I love the pics of Murphy – and I like your BB t-shirt! :)

I live in Boston so I loved the list of things to do for the next month of so. Don’t forget that the MSPCA Dog Walk is this Sunday in the Common. I took my Welsh Corgi a few years ago and had a great time. Your little pug is SO cute! I love seeing his pictures!

I live in Sonic country and have to agree about the drinks being the best thing on the menu. Especially the icecream drinks. If I went to a state with an In-and-Out or something else that we don’t have, I’d feel the same way. Oooooh, gotta try!
