She’s Tying the Knot

September 13, 2009

Sorry that I’ve been MIA. Saturday was a busy one! 8-O

I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to get a jump-start on packing. Starting on Tuesday, Mal and I are finally moving into our new apartment. I’ve really enjoyed living with our friends, but I’m ready to have my life back to normal once again. I don’t like feeling so “unsettled,” living between houses and having our lives in shambles. But, only 2 days to go! Ahh, we have so much to do!

After a few hours of packing and breakfast at the Wheelhouse Diner, it was time to go to my sister’s bachelorette barbeque, which was hosted by one of her bridesmaids. I offered to bring dessert, so cupcakes from Babycakes was an easy decision.

I love Babycakes! :-D  It’s always such a special treat to have them– like on my birthday and at a baby shower.

Babycakes has such a yummy selection of flavors! They have Everyday Flavors as well as Daily Specials, Tuesday through Saturday. (They’re closed on Mondays.)

IMG_7147.JPG IMG_7149.JPG

Babycakes is tiny inside, but super cute!

IMG_7150.JPG

I purchased a dozen cupcakes for my sister’s shower, and let’s just say they didn’t last long!

IMG_7166.JPG

I tried bites of a few different cupcakes. My favorite was easily the French Toast cupcake, which was basically French toast-flavored bread pudding shaped as a cupcake. It was heavenly! I also really liked the German Chocolate and Oreo Cookie cupcakes. Holy yum!

IMG_7168.JPG

Over the course of the 5-hour bachelorette barbeque, I enjoyed a bunch of “autumn” beers. I absolutely love pumpkin and Octoberfest beers. I’d drink them year-round if I could!
IMG_7164.JPG IMG_7172.JPG IMG_7175.JPG
I pretty much snacked from the start of the party to the very end. With all of the delicious food, it was hard to turn down tasting almost every dish! I probably should have taken my own advice and made a plate for myself! Oh well. Next time!

IMG_7173.JPG IMG_7177.JPG IMG_7184.JPG IMG_7185.JPG

The dish that I especially loved the hostess’s “Beer Dip.”

Beer Dip

  • 2 packages of cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 packet of Ranch salad dressing mix
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (to taste)
  • 1 bottle of full-bodied beer

Directions: In a large bowl, blend cream cheese, Ranch salad dressing mix, and cheddar cheese. Slowly pour beer into mixture and stir. Continue to add beer until dip achieves desired consistency.

I ate a ton of this stuff! It was excellent with French bread, crackers, pita chips, and pretzels! ;-) It was so addicting! Everyone else at the party agreed too!

IMG_7161.JPG

In addition to eating lots of wonderful food, we played some games.

IMG_7191.JPG

And drank some more beers! ;-)

My sister and I really loved the Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale! Delish!

IMG_7192.JPG

For my sister’s big night out on the town, the bridemaids designed bachelorette t-shirts for all of the girls to wear. After all of the fun we had with the t-shirts at Ashley’s bachelorette, I knew my sis would love the idea!

IMG_7181.JPG

The back of the t-shirts said: “She’s typing the knot… Buy us a shot!

IMG_7182.JPG

My mom and my aunts attended the bachelorette barbeque too, but they said their goodbyes before we headed into Boston. I think we scared them a little bit!

IMG_7183.JPG

We took the T into the city for a bachelorette pub crawl! My sister was psyched!

The bride needed a little help with her Charlie Card!

IMG_7196.JPG

On the T, we met another bachelorette party heading into the city too!

IMG_7199.JPG

Part of the bachelorette crew at the first bar:

IMG_7204.JPG

My sis had 20 gals come out for her big night! It was so fun seeing a sea of purple shirts at each bar!

IMG_7206.JPG

The final bar was about a half mile away, so instead of walking, the bride, a couple of friends, and I took advantage of a man-powered ride!

IMG_7207.JPG

Riding the streets of Boston in a rickshaw was hilarious! We had so much fun!

We made it to Dillion’s in one piece! ;-)

IMG_7231.JPG

There, the bachelorette mayhem continued!

IMG_7235.JPG IMG_7237.JPG IMG_7238.JPG IMG_7241.JPG

IMG_7245.JPG

Being the old fart that I am, I ended up leaving the group around 11:30 pm. My sister was having the time of her life, so I said a quick goodbye and told her to have a blast with her girlfriends. She didn’t seem to mind that her old lady sister was headed to bed!

I can’t wait to hear her stories from the night! ;-)

HAHA! I have a feeling that my own bachelorette party won’t go much later than about midnight because, at 29, I’m the YOUNGEST one that will be there! It looks like a blast :)

Those cupcakes are gorgeous!!! It’s funny that the place is called Babycakes; there is a very famous vegan bakery in NYC called Babycakes.

What a fun day/evening!

Tina, those cupcakes look delicious! When I was in college we had a cupcake shop called ‘Cupcake’ nearby that had a wonderful flavor assortment, but nothing this great!

I hope your sister isn’t hurting too bad this morning :)

Feeling unsettled is one of the worst feelings in the world for me! I hate living out of a suitcase and never quite being “at home.” I guess that is one of the nice things about J and I finally being out on our own. The cupcakes and beer dip look delicious!

And while I am not much of a beer drinker, I am intrigued by the pumpkin ales I saw above.

LOL I never had a bachelorette, but that looks like so much fun! We got a pedi-cab on my b-day and I felt so bad for the guy driving it with 3 of us squished in!
Lovve pumpkin beer (Shipyard especially!), but I made a rule for myself that I drink summer drinks until official autumn. . . I am so looking forward to it!
