Our New Home: First Morning

September 16, 2009

Good morning! 8-) We’re living in our new home!

I didn’t get to bed until almost 1:00 am last night. Mal and I moved a good portion of our “stuff” (packed boxed and necessities), which meant loading and unloading a pick-up truck and car 2 times, driving roundtrip from Quincy to South Boston twice, and carrying our stuff up 4 flights of stairs. Needless to say, I am exhausted this morning! But, we made a serious dent in our move!

I woke up bright and early to take Murphy for a walk in our new neighborhood. He had trouble doing his “business” last night (a new environment, lots of different smells, nervousness, etc.), which meant a LONG walk around Southie, but this morning he was so much better. It only took 20 minutes! The little guy is so confused about his new surroundings.

Breakfast

On our walk, I stumbled across a little deli/coffeeshop that looked promising for breakfast. I popped in to order an egg and cheese sandwich and a hot coffee.

(I have “officially” made the switch to hot coffee for the season. I drink iced coffee in the warm months and hot in the cold months. I don’t vary much in my decision once I make the big “switch.”)

Today’s coffee flavor: Butter Cookie! Omg, it was delicious!

Breakfast definitely made my first morning at our new place much more enjoyable!

I’m so excited to unpack tonight. I hate packing and moving, but unpacking, organizing, and redecorating is FUN for me. I’m a dork when it comes to stuff like this, but I can’t wait!

I start physical therapy (again) this morning. Wish me luck!

Your new place looks like it is going to be great! Love the brick wall!

Great artical too.

My organizing tip. Make a list of everything you need to do and cross it off. I am a huge list maker. That way I don’t forget anything.

WOW, Tina! I love the loft area! That is awesome. I have always wanted to live someplace with a little loft! I hope you love Southie is a a great area! I reminds me a lot of Charlestown, where I live. Fun!

That Butter Cookie coffee sounds different and fun! Yummmm! I have made the switch to hot coffee too!

My favorite organizing tip is to take it one room at at time and spend the time to get it organized from the beginning, so you don’t get overwhelmed or have to go back later to sort through things! Good Luck!

Your new place looks beautiful! I love the exposed brick wall! Butter cookie coffee sounds so good. It sounds like a perfect flavor for a cold morning.

My favorite organizing tip is to break the job up into smaller areas. When we moved I got kind of overwhelmed at the thought of all the unpacking we had to do. Breaking it up into one room or one part of one room really helped! Once all of the unpacking is done I love having a new place to decorate!

Your place looks co cute! Love it!
My favorite organizing tip its to put everything away nicely, then re-organize every few weeks when things start driving you crazy in their original place. :)

and Murphy looks too cute! :) aweee

my organizng tip. stick to one room at a time!! it may be messier once you start organizing.. but it will definatly get into place better and quicker that way :)

I love your new place – especially the exposed brick – that will be fun to decorate.

I think organizing the kitchen is the hardest part – so many things to consider. In our last apartment, I actually left most things on the kitchen table for a few days; cooked a few meals and learned where I should put my kitchen “tools.”

Good luck!

Congratulations on your new home! I always feel like moving can be like a starting over, kick you in the butt, etc kind of situation. Kind of like new years, but more motivating because more has changed.

Love your new place! The exposed brick, light wood floors and that view! Your husband did a great job right? As for organizing I try to be flexible in the beginning. Put things where you think you will need them and adjust as you live with it for a while. Good luck!

What a great looking apartment! I especially love that exposed brick! My best tips for organization are to DECLUTTER (oh goodness, I love it) and make LISTS! It looks like you already got rid of some things in the moving process though, and that will definitely help you now. Hope you like Southie!

Traci September 16, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Love the exposed brick wall in your new place…And Love Southie! When trying to organize after a move I think the best advice is take it one room at a time. Better to complete a whole room than partially and be 1/2 way done with 2 or 3 rooms.

Your place is wonderful! Must be nice to finally be able to ‘nest’ after being a guest.
I wasn’t sure where to post this to ask you…but have you been to Franklin Cafe? I saw your Toro review on the restaurants page. My mom, sister and I LOVED it on a recent visit, and after a couple tapas we walked down the street (food crawl :) ) to Franklin Cafe and were so so happy we stopped in!
