Bienvenido Gato Rojo

September 14, 2009

My favorite blogging spot is open for business once again!

The Café Gato Rojo is Harvard’s student-run coffee shop, and it’s just a 60-second walk from my office. The Gato Rojo is the perfect place to blog– it’s cozy, laid-back, a little funky, and the coffee is delicious and cheap! It’s $1 for a small coffee! Not too shabby!

I ate my lunch at my desk before heading over to the Café Gato Rojo to blog.

Lunch

Today’s lunch was a homemade ham sandwich on an Arnold Sandwich Thin. Inside was spicy mustard, lettuce, red pepper and cucumber slices. It was a good one!

I also had a Chocolate Whole Food Energy Bar with lunch. I’m not a fan of the other Amazing Grass bars, but I like this flavor. The dark chocolate coating is really yummy!

Afternoon Snack

As an afternoon snack, I packed a pear and a newish product from POM: POMx Iced Coffee (chocolate flavor). I tried the Café au Lait flavor last week and I liked a lot. (I’ll have to let you know how the chocolate flavor tastes! ;-) )

My ReviewPOMx Iced Coffee – Café au Lait

At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this product. I mean, pomegranate iced coffee? It sounded interesting, but weird. I agreed to try some samples anyway.

It turns out that POMx Iced Coffee actually does not include or taste like pomegranate juice. It’s made with all-natural ingredients, including POMx, a potent antioxidant extract from POM Wonderful pomegranates, but it tastes just like creamy iced coffee. Each bottle contains a “Healthy Buzz” (175mg of caffeine) and potent pomegranate antioxidants. It’s a pretty cool combination if you ask me!

Of course, I enjoy drinking my own homemade iced coffee, but if I was on-the-go, I’d probably buy the POMx over another brand just for the healthy dose of antioxidants. Might as well, right?

I have a long afternoon meeting and then I am headed home to pack my brains out for for the rest of the night. Our apartment is about 2/3 packed, but we still have a lot to do!

Happy Monday, bloggies!

I haven’t seen the POMx ice coffee in stores around me yet. I would be interested to try. Your sandwich looks really good. Do you have any tips on how to keep the sandwich from getting soggy? Do you make it at work or do you have a special packing tip?

The Pom Iced Coffee does look interesting – I would def like to try that – thanks for the great review bc I don’t think I would’ve ever thought to try otherwise (Pom + coffee = hmmm?) :) Good luck packing!

The POM iced coffee kind of creeps me out a bit. I haven’t tried it so maybe I should wait before I pass judgement!

Ah, I miss my college cafe! Love the Spanish BTW, don’t know that I’ve ever seen a red cat… a ginger one, perhaps… but red? Not unless PETA caught it wearing fur…

Have a great Monday!

I have been rocking the cucumber and spicy mustard combo since cucumber season started! So good, right?

That’s so fun that you can get away to a little cafe during lunch to blog. Well I guess I can now go home, so I should complain ;)
The ice coffee combo does sound weird, but I’d try it if offered. :D

I tried the POM Iced tea this weekend and thought it tasted a little like cough syrup but perhaps these iced coffees wouldn’t be too bad!

Hey Tina, after reading about Arnold’s sandwich thins here on CNC I finally picked up a package; they are really good! They make a great sandwich regardless of what you put inside them. Well I guess I wouldn’t make a sandwich with coffee grounds and banana peel, it probably wouldn’t taste so bad on a sandwich thin. I’ve used them for pbj, hummus and tabouli, and Dr. Praegers veggie burgers. Good stuff, thanks for the tip.

I haven’t tried the chocolate variety of that bar but liked the original well enough. Today I actually sampled a Greens Plus bar that I found at Trader Joe’s. I thought it was to die for and seriously tasted like a candy bar. I agree with you on the chocolate coating being the best part. Yummm :)
