Odd Food Combos

August 27, 2009

Ok, so I didn’t eat any “odd” food combos for lunch today– I just thought it would be a fun topic for my lunch post! :-D But, I do have some favorite odd combinations– many of which seem to include buffalo sauce! ;-) What are your favorite “odd” food combinations?

Today’s lunch started with an arugula salad with tomatoes and olive oil. The arugula was from the Farmers’ Market at Harvard and it was AMAZING! Wow!

To be completely honest, I didn’t know arugula tasted so wonderful! It was full of flavor– mildly peppery, sort of tangy, and even a little spicy. I never knew! The arugula that I buy at the grocery store tastes nothing like the stuff I ate for lunch today! I’m still pleasantly surprised! :-D

IMG_6089Lunch also included peach-flavored Better Whey yogurt and granola, which is one of my favorite “normal” food combinations.

For an afternoon snack, I brought a Pure Bar to munch on later.

A Floating Wine Extravaganza

Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors is taking wine tasting to a whole new level… on a boat! So cool! :-D

On Thursday, September 10th at 6:30 pm, VinoVoyage (aboard the Spirit of Boston) will set sail into Boston Harbor, carrying about 400 passengers with about 300 wines. The evening will also feature a full buffet dinner, DJ, live jazz, and a VIP section. Check out the Gordon’s website and VinoVoyage flyer for more info.

I still can’t believe I am going to this event! I am PSYCHED!

I love eating scrambled eggs with ketchup, which isn’t too weird I guess? But peanut butter, for me, belongs on anything and everything. Sometimes it’s strange, sometimes it’s normal… :D

The arugala sounds lovely!! I’ve only tried grocery store arugala, so I think I need to give it another shot when I find some at the farmer’s market! :D

I put ketchup on eggs which some people tell me is strange. I also put cinnamon in my chili.

I eat fairly normally now (except combining Sriracha with….. everything) but when I was a little kid, my favorite snack was crackers with peanut butter and minced garlic.

my favorite odd food combos would have to be pretzels and ketchup and oreos with peanut butter.
I also LOVE spicy mustard with seafood – especially shrimp and lobster! It’s not really odd to me, but people always look at me weird when I ask for the mustard :)

I’m obsessed with peanut butter and keep experimenting with it. My most recent favorite has been peanut buttered noodles. Just a heaping spoonfool of PB melted on hot whole wheat pasta…SOO GOOD!

So this is probably the oddest food combination, I mix plain rice and greek yogurt, some salt and pepper. It taste like a creamy rissoto. I know its weird

I like to eat edamame with pasta and butter. Mixing of cultural foods, but still delicious.

One thing we do a lot in Japan is mix Miso paste and mayo (thin it out with soy sauce if needed) together to make a dip for veggies, like cucumbers, celery, and carrots. I’ve been eating this since I was a little girl; soooo good. Another is popcorn with freshly ground black pepper. I cannot eat popcorn without pepper. Makes it very “savory” :)

:-) cottage cheese and vanilla yogurt and maybe some grahams crushed? I know a few friends who do it with me so it can’t be that weird but it’s delicious!
