Look what came in the mail for me yesterday!

Breakfast
I ended up eating 3 thousand bowls of cereal when I got home last night (damn drunk munchies!), so I kept breakfast light this morning.
I made a fruit smoothie with peach, nectarine, banana, vanilla soy milk, and a packet of Amazing Grass Pomegranate Mango Infusion. The smoothie was light and fresh, but the Pomegranate Mango Infusion sort of gave it a chalky taste. 
I added a bowl of peanut butter Puffins (thanks, VeggieGirl!) for some feel-good carbs.

Remember how I mentioned that I co-hosted a video about healthy Mexican options for Diet.com? Well, here’s the final product! Hope you like it! 
The video pretty much speaks for itself, but I have to say 2 things about it:
- I am INCREDIBLY nervous (if you can’t tell) and SO awkward! I can barely watch myself! But, watching myself made me realize a number of things about my “camera presence” that I want to change in the future. Live and learn, right?
- This video was shot in ONE take! It took us longer to set up and display the food than it did to actually film it. Crazy, right? But, also pretty cool!
It was really fun making a video about healthy eating– maybe there’s a future in it for me? Hopefully, Sarah and I will team up again soon.

I love speaking in front of large groups! My largest has been 1700 people! You have to breath, and have FUN! Feed off of the energy from the audience, and it can make you feel higher than a great 5 mile run!

Great video & great tips, esp the drink tips, I think that people don’t realize how bad those frozen concoctions can be for you when there are so many better options! I love speaking in front of big groups, have to do it all the time with my job, however I def get a bit nervous too – but nothing feels better than the feeling of accomplishment when you are done… I love that kinda pressure (something is prob wrong w me haha)!

oh man. i get SO NERVOUS in front of cameras. i don’t even know why! i was taking a music conducting class a few years ago and twice in the term, someone came in to video each of us conducting so we could actually see ourselves and hear what the choir was doing in response to our direction at the same time. as it turned out, i absolutely loved it. i loved watching myself after and i watched my videos again and again. i just need to get over that initial nervous/awkwardness

Such a cool print…so true about how to start any morning.
I get really nervous on camera and speaking in front of people which is kind of funny with my job. I’m the pastor and we record our services to air on TV so I’m doing both each week. I get nervous but I’ve learned to harness it in instead of almost throwing up each week like I used to. You’ll learn and adjust as you do it more.

As for video presence, I think you did great! My husband is a videographer and he has put me in a few of his videos. It is NOT as easy as public speaking (in my opinion), and, because you can play it over and over again, you critique yourself forever!

Tina, I thought you did a GREAT job. I was a broadcast journalism major in college and know how hard it is to act when you’re on camera. Especially at the beginning of a newscast when they would introduce me – it was hard to remember to just keep smiling and keep on staring at the anchors, no matter how crazy I felt!! But I think you did a wonderful job and came across as very knowledgeable and well spoken. Kudos!! Don’t beat yourself up about it

I spoke in front of large groups during last semester’s classes, which really sttttretched my comfort zone to the max. I’d much rather speak one-on-one with people or in a small group…there’s just something about standing in front of a large group, and presenting that makes me forget what I’m about to say. ha…
The good news is that it progressively gets easier and easier, and the more videos you do, the more comfortable you’ll become I’m sure!

You did a great job!! I had never thought of asking for lime juice instead of sour mix!! So smart!
I’ve had to do several little bits on camera when I worked in Marketing at a Food Co-op and what I learned was pretty simple. Smile. Smile when you’re talking and smile when you’re not talking. I also will always ask the producer if I should view the camera as a third person in the conversation and make a lot of eye contact or if I should just be in conversation with the host of the show.
BUT I think you did a GREAT job!!

The print is totally cute. I think you did fabulous in the video! All great tips too. Hooray for Mexican. How nervous I get usually depends on who I am presenting to! The smaller the crowd, the better I do (duhh) and the more familiar I am with them the better I do. I try not to dwell on my nerves and it usually makes them go away

Glad you had a fun night. Funny you ate cereal when you got home. We were up most of the night-hubs brother was visiting and we had to take him to the train at midnight-long story, but anyways…I ate cereal at 1 because I was starving for some reason.
Great job on the video! I hate watching myself too. I have done some tv spots for a local channel here in Salt Lake City about healthy eating/cooking etc. I never like to watch the tapes:) You rocked it though!

I used to always get nervous, but having to take public speaking for my major REALLY helped out when talking on camera. We had to film all of our speeches, and then watch them as a class. Talk about awkwardness!

Tina you were just fine! I think that in those situations you think you look more nervous than you actually do. The fact that you did it in one take is impressive!
I get very nervous but apparently hide it well. It more depends on who is in the room as opposed to how many. For the most part my only presentations have been at work and in my MBA classes. I’m fine for the most part, but I was VERY nervous when venture capitalists came to our class a few times. I thought my heart was going to explode!

You did so good. I get nervous when on camera, too. I was on live TV a couple weeks ago talking about the blog and I was so nervous. I think it gets easier with practice and you just have to try to forget the cameras are there, which is easier said than done. Congrats – great tips too!

Great job on the video!! I used to be nervous until I was taught 2 things: 1. If you’re not selling, they’re not buying aka if you exude confidence then people will think you’re a good public speaker. 2. No one wants to see you fail – people aren’t there to watch you stumble over words, they’re there to listen to you and hear what you have to say so take a deep breath and go for it!

hey tina – i don’t think you look nervous or awkward at all; you did great! as someone who makes their living in front of the camera, i NEVER get used to seeing myself, and we are always our own worst critics. the key is to just keep doing it (you can have mal camcord you for a few days if you’re feeling nervous beforehand). and there’s my unsolicited advice for you!!!
