After the “official” conclusion of the Healthy Living Summit, we enjoyed a two-hour hiatus to rest (and blog) before reconvening for a walk to the North End for the Fisherman’s Feast.
A group of about 40 women gathered outside of the hotel– we were quite the scene!

As you can image, with such a large group, it was a little tricky trekking through busy Boston with the intersections, stoplights, and crowded streets.

But, eventually, we arrived at the North End!

The crowds at the festival were crazy. The streets were packed! Luckily, Jenna and I stumbled upon a wine tasting promotion hosted by Barefoot Wine.

The promo was a bit off the beaten path of the festival, which gave our group much more room to spread out.

At the event, I munched on lots of cheese!

And a few sips of wine. I liked the Barefoot Pinot Noir, but I really loved their Zinfandel! Nice and smooth!

Of course, I needed to take advantage of a wine bottle prop for a few photos.

I know that I’m a total dork!

I think our group really enjoyed the wine tasting!

Kath and I sported our Summit spirit!

We had such a great group last night. I did a lot of chatting!

After some wine and cheese, Kath made an excellent suggestion for dessert: Mike’s Pastry!

As expected, Mike’s was crowded, but the line moved fairly quickly.

It was hot and muggy last night, so I pick gelato (instead of a pastry) for dessert.

I went with the Nocciola flavor (aka Hazelnut).

It was perfect– exactly what I wanted on a hot summer night! Delish!

After dessert, we walked back through the streets of Boston to our hotel. It wasn’t that late, but I was exhausted and headed straight to bed.
Thanks to everyone who came out for our North End adventure!

Congratulations on such a successful event! so exciting for you girls! I’ve read every step of the way, and also tuned in! the pictures really captures it all!
Hope 2010 is in the future!
You all did such a wonderful job with the Healthy Living Summit!!
And looks like everyone had a blast.
The gelato looks incredibly delicious…I’m a huge fan of Mikes Pastry. Its a MUST whenever I go to Boston.
That hazelnut gelate looks do die for especially in the heat!
It looks like a great night in Boston to end a great Summit Day. Glad it was so successful and I hope to be in attendance next year if I can swing it
Thats so cool! Looks like boston is a great city!
Those shirts look so great… and so does that gelato.
Mike’s Pastry looks like a great choice.
You got what I would’ve gotten at Mike’s. I have a weakness for gelato!
The conference and most of the food choices looked yummy! Good job.
By only looking at the photos, I did notice however the lack of minorities. Seriously, do no Hispanic or black bloggers live healthy lifestyles? This is not to critcize the organizers- obviously y’all have nothing to decide on who attends. It’s just an observation.
I think it’s interesting how the food choices as well don’t reflect what’s affordable/available in many minority communties. POM juice for takes. Delish, yes but way to pricey to be included in my $42 weekly grocery budget. Stoneyfield too pricey as well. The granola is way out of my price range. And I want to try organic beauty products but when I compare price tags there’s no contest.
The food/drink sponsors were nice enough to underwrite your costs. But it is another example, unfortunately, of what urban studies have shown again and again: that white, middle-class women are the benefactors of *healthy* eating (which in bloggers’ terms is implied to mean only organic products) and newfangled food/beauty products.
Congrats on the success of the Summit. You girls are such healthy role models. Thanks for all the fun recaps, I really enjoyed them!
mmmmm! Jen I agree, I am a balck/native american blogger and the lifestyle is hard to keep up. THe prices also may have ben a stretch for some. When I first foiund out about HLS it was a little late for me to back a CA to MA flight and pay for all extras. Le sigh.
Thanks so much for sharing all this! What a great group you have there. Looks like you guys are having a great time.
Thanks Angela.
yeah i BET you ladies caused a scene!
@Jen: I’m pretty sure the point of the Summit was not to encourage everyone to go out and buy Stoneyfield, Mix My Granola, POM juice, etc. but to promote a healthy way of living by providing tips to help one make informed decisions in the grocery store. These companies were sponsors that helped to make the Summit possible but one clearly does not need to consume these products to be healthy.
I bet you all are COMPLETELY exhausted! But it looks like it was such a fabulous weekend. Wish I could have been there! I hope you are planning on making this a yearly event! I didn’t get to go, but certainly appreciate all your hard work on this weekend…I DID get to watch portions online though. You gals did a GREAT job! Now go RELAX!!
I totally agree with Jen.I’m latina and live in East Los Angeles and the closes Trader Joe’s is 45min away. Of course it’s in Pasadena a very upper-middle class city.I love your blog Tina even though at times it is difficult to relate to because the products are so expensive or difficult to obtain.
Congrats on what looked to be an awesome time! I just wish I could have attended! If you like hazelnut gelato you should try my raw vegan Nutella recipe
Tina I love the photo of you goofing around!
Glad everyone had a great time….well done!
Looks like fun! Sorry I missed it – had to pack + spend some time with the hubs. I did make sure to hit up North End on Sunday. Lots of fun food + goodies. No wine though
