Walk This Way

Ahhh, so much better! I had a rough day at work today. I didn’t cry, but I came pretty darn close. I just felt so overwhelmed! :-( But, a long walk after work was a wonderful way to clear my mind and lift my spirits. I feel a million times better! Those natural happy drugs (aka endorphins) definitely worked their magic! :-D

I walked about 45-minutes roundtrip to the Fruit Center Marketplace to pick up some groceries for dinner, so I fit in some exercise while running an errand, de-stressing, and working on my tan. ;-) I came back from my walk feeling upbeat and accomplished. Now, that’s a good walk!

Groceries from my walk:

I arrived home to the cutest anniversary card from Mal’s parents:

Mal and me in 50 years:

The message inside of the card was really sweet… and so true!

I’m such a nerd, but I really liked the Bart Simpson stamp on the envelop. Growing up, I was a HUGE fan of the Simpsons! :-D

Dinner

Dinner is a bit of a mystery tonight because I made a sandwich to enter into Mezzetta’s “Make That Sandwich Contest.” The rules require you to use two different Mezzetta ingredients in your sandwich recipe. If you’d like to enter, you have until September 7 and the prize is $25,000 and a trip to Napa!

If you look closely, you can probably tell what’s inside. ;-)

Yum! It was an incredible sandwich!

What a day! I’m so glad to be relaxing at home. My plan is to veg-out in front of the boob-tube (with a piece of carrot cake!) for the rest of the evening.

How do you de-stress?

I destress by walking, going for a run, listening to music I love, or just laying down with my eyes closed and taking deep breaths for a while.

Hope your evening hits the spot!

I usually drink wine and curl up in bed with a magazine, or talk to my best friend. Hope tomorrow is a better day!

I’m glad your walk helped! I give you major props for being able to work a full time job outside the home, commute, maintain a FANTASTIC blog, write health articles, workout, purchase your first home (!!), navigate your first year of marriage, spend time with family, and so on. You are truly an inspiration! Hope your Thursday is good :-)

I have lots of destressers. I watch silly TV shows that give the brain a rest!

Sorry about the roughness of your day. I had a rough day yesterday — a stranger actually threw a lit firework in front of me as I walked downtown….WHAT the heck!?! Scary stuff. Sometimes life is so random. Glad your walk helped!!

Aw, Tina! :( I’m sorry that it was such a bad day. I’ve definitely had those! I remember long walks around the Park Street Stop on the green line when I was unhappy at my job in Boston! Walks are definitely my go-to for de-stressing…or maybe a nice yoga session.

I hope tomorrow is a better day!

    Glad you didn’t cry today!

I posted a quote on by blog partly inspired by the feeling you mentioned today, going out to everyone who pushes themselves hard.

Enjoy your night & cake :)

I’m so sorry you had a rough day at work – but it looks like you did just the trick to boost your spirits. I find that going for a walk and getting OUT of whatever scenario you’re in always does the trick. Something about the fresh air :)

so funny, or not really….later today after reading your cry at work question, I found myself near tears after a scuffle with a coworker. I hate being emotional!

Sorry you had a yucky day. I’ve definitely fought back tears in class and have cried when overwhelmed with work. It stinks!
But you sound like you are on the right track. And that sandwich looks a-mazing!

I’m sorry about your day Tina! The other day, I was feeling really sick at work, like I was about to throw up any second (even though I knew this wouldn’t happen, since I haven’t thrown up since .. I can’t even remember, but the day was just dragging on and on and I could feel tears coming. However, I just took some DEEP BREATHS in, and that really helped me get through it. Good luck with work though! And I don’t really know exactly what you do, but things must be busy over there, with offices merging together and all those layoffs.. don’t even know what’s happening at that school anymore, haha. My boss at Lamont Library has actually been leading some protests apparently.. (read it on thecrimson.com)

oh tina! so glad you’re feeling better. the only time i full out CRIED at work is when i was waitressing for my dad – he owns a restaurant – last summer. one of the customers was SO RUDE to me… he offended me to my face, rolled his eyes at me, barked at me to get crayons for his daughter and then actually made me get down on my hands and knees to find the “orange crayon” that his daughter had “lost somewhere”. i ran into the kitchen, found my dad and started bawling. it’s not fun to cry at work, but sometimes it feels good to let it all out!

    here’s to a brighter tomorrow :)

Hi Tina – I’m sorry to hear about your rough day at work, but it sounds like you found a productive and healthy way to melt away the stress. Walking does wonders to clear my head as well!

You put together one good-lookin’ sandwich! I love all of the vibrant colors.

When I was swamped in college my Mum used to always remind me that you can only do ONE thing at a time, so start to prioritize, focus on the present moment, and see what happens…oh, and remember to take deep breaths! Hope today is calmer and brighter!
