Not surprisingly, Boston is cold and gray this morning.
But, my breakfast was cheery and inspired by tropical flavors.
My special birthday papaya was ready and ripe to eat this morning.

I gave Amazing Grass another try and added their Pomegranate Mango Infusion Amazing Meal to my smoothie.

In the mix:
- Papaya
- 1 packet of Pomegranate Mango Infusion
- 6 oz. Oikos vanilla Greek yogurt
- Handful of ice
- Splash of vanilla soy milk

The end result was just so-so. The Pomegranate Mango Infusion had a weird taste to it, and I couldn’t really taste the papaya because the Infusion dominated the flavor. I suppose the smoothie got better as I drank it, but overall, it was chalky with a tart, artificial flavor. At least it was good for me, right?

Before my workout this morning, I snacked on a bowl of Peanut Butter Bumpers.

Your morning sounds really close to mine! Dreary outside and COLD!!
After nearly a week in the upper 80ies we have now low 50ies. :S
Nonetheless my morning was filled with tropical flowers as well!!
My muesli contained aside from my now (almost) daily blueberries MANGO and PEACH! And with this I have to say MANGO has to be my favorite tropical fruit and in the summer time I have almost every day my share of mango! YUM!
Have a nice day and I send you a little (non existent) sunnshine from Switzerland!
My favorite tropical flavor are mango and coconut! YUM!
I am sorry the Amazing Grass tasted odd–I have not tried that flavor but have just had the plain GreenSuperFood. I heard the chocolate was the best, so I am buying that next time.
Coconut and mango…mmm!
At least the weekend looks nice!
the peanut butter bumpers look good- i’m a huge fan of the pb puffins, so maybe i’ll have to give the bumpers a try
Such a bummer that you are having rotten luck with the amazing grass. Lost birthday fruit flavor is always a downer.
My favorite tropical flavor is mango or maybe starfruit (they are just so pretty!).
I have not been a big fan of the greens, either. I really like the energy they give me but the taste is just not good. I find that mixing it with a “shot” of juice and just throwing it back is much easier because you get it over with much faster than a smoothie. I have also decided that I can’t force myself to like something just because everyone else does so I only drink the “greens” when I need that extra boost of energy.
My favorite tropical flavors were all in my dessert last night : coconut sorbet with dried bananas, macademia nuts and mango!
yum tropical flavors!
That’s a disappointment! Sorry you couldn’t taste the papaya. I like mangoes and pineapples the best for tropical flavors.
It is a chilly one out there!
I love mangos and pineapples. I just did a post last night on our trip to tropical paradise Grenada . . . looks like w eare on the same wavelength!
Have you tried the Chocolate Amazing Grass? It seriously reminds me of Nestle Quik when I drink it in almond or regular milk, and it makes smoothies delicious.
ohh, too bad you couldn’t taste the papaya – that is one of my all time favorite smoothie ingredients!
sorry you’ve been having not so great luck with those!
my favorite tropical flavor: coconut, pineapple.
coconut milk
pineapple
pistachios
mango
Yummy!

Sorry the 2nd attempt with Amazing Grass was just so so – althought that papaya does look so nice and bright!
Mine would have to be mango or pineapple, but it’s weird because sometimes I’ll use mango in a green monster and it will taste very tart but other times it tastes yummy…have a good day
I haven’t had much luck with the Amazing Grass products either. They’re a bit too chalky or grainy for my tastes. It’s a struggle to get it down, but I hate wasting money so I’m determined to finish the container I bought. Like you said, at least it’s good for me! I love the glass you drank your smoothie in. Did you purchase it in Nantucket? My boyfriend and I are lighthouse fanatics. I’d love to get it for our collection of lighthouse trinkets.
Has anyone else tried mangosteen? I had them when I was on a volunteer trip in Southeast Asia. They are amazing! Seriously like cotton candy except fruit! I know you can get mangosteen flavored stuff, but I’ve not tried any yet.
I’d love to get rid of the dreary weather! It’s summer, for goodness’ sake!
Don’t give up on the Amazing Grass – it’s seriously delicious once you find a mix you like
And for tropical flavor – DEFINITELY pineapple. I could eat a pound of it a day!
I love fresh pineapple, but just found out I am allergic to eat. My tongue swelled up and had tons of white bumps when I ate it last time. So sad. Luckily I love all other fruits. Mangoes are up there!
My favorite tropical flavor is pineapple! I could easily eat an entire fruit in one sitting!! Probably not the greatest thing to do but it’s so good!
My favorite tropical flavor has got to be lilikoi (passion fruit). I love all things lemon and lilikoi has that same tart flavor.
My god that looks gross. How do you even GET yourself to look at it? As another reader said, why are you trying to force yourself to like something just because everyone else on the blog world does it??
Sorry the smoothie was only so-so! My favorite tropical flavors are coconut and kiwi! Also love pinapple and mango! Heck, I love ‘em all!
We had the same morning workout, but my green monster smoothie was delish! You need to try Jillian’s No More Trouble Zone workout, a great strength training DVD.
@Pete: I really don’t care what other people think of it. I wasn’t crazy about this particular infusion, but I know it’s good for me, so I drank it.
Tina! Oh.My.God. I did your “Butt-Kicking lower body circuit” on Tuesday and I am STILL SO SORE! I could barely get out of bed this morning and it hurts to sit down at my desk! that was a killer workout! Thanks so much for posting your workouts- i love changing up my routine and trying something new – that circuit DEFinitely kicked my butt:)
read your blog every day but rarely comment- just want to let you know I love it! I was excited to see you found a new home- my boyfriend and I have been house-hunting casually for a few months but haven’t found the dream place yet:)
@Renee: Isn’t that a good workout!? I was sore for a couple of days too!
What is with all the dreary weather? I swear it feel more like fall then summer somedays.
pineapple! although coconut is a close runner up.
oh dang i like ALL summer time fruits, how can i choose!
My favorite tropical flavors are mango, coconut, guava, and pineapple. Is “rum” a tropical flavor?
Pineapple!!!!
Mango and guava! I need to go buy some!
pineapple-mango-young coconuts,. I love the mango amazing grass, but I will say that greek yogurt and amazing meal do not mix well, there flavours contrast each other. I have had it both ways and prefer it with just fruit and spinich and milk of some sort. So try it without the greek yogurt and I think you will love it. I hope your day gets brighter.
I’m a tropical fruit fiend. Mango, coconut, pineapple – I should be reincarnated as a parrot!
Mango for sure!!! Oddly enough I’ve never liked papaya that much, which I almost feel bad about because it’s the only fruit that I DON’T like! But mangos are just spectacular…. honestly I would rather eat a ripe mango than a piece of chocolate any day!
I LOVE passion fruit. It was a very popular dessert when I was in Africa and I ate it every day!
Mmmm mango, coconut, guava pineapple…I love them all! Sometimes papaya and/or passion fruit a little less,, but still. Remember Tropical Skittles? I used to go bananas over those (mmm…bananas…those are tropical, right?)
Coconut and mango are my favs!
I think pineapple is my favorite tropical flavor. I love mango too.
For my favorite tropical flavor, I would have to say Mango and pineapple are on the top of my list! As for the Amazing Grass, I think the chocolate is by far the best. I have recently been buying fruit that is on sale and buying a ton of it to freeze. I do this because frozen fruit is so expensive so this is just a cheaper way to do it! I use that fruit in my smoothies. For the chocolate one try something like this: about 6 ice cubes, 1 cup of Almond Breeze (or any other type of milk that you like), a packet of the chocolate amazing grass and about 5 frozen strawberries and a banana. If you like your smoothie sweeter you can add some agave to it. Trust me, this one is a winner! Sorry it is so long, I just wanted to give some advice from an Amazing Grass fan
coconut!!!! yum.
Favorite tropical flavors: Pineapple and coconut for certain. You must be happy that our dreary morning here in Boston has given way to a brillant sunshine! I still think the temp feels more like October. Where is Summer!!!! I am with you: Not a fan of the Pom/Mango flavor at all. Very strange taste. Chocolate is a bit better.
Honestly I am glad to see that someone else doesn’t like the Amazing Grass products; I bought the single-serving packets of both the chocolate and the regular (grass, or whatever) and I didn’t like either, with just milk nor in a smoothie. Then I was wondering if something is wrong with me because everyone is raving about them. Oh well, I guess I will just stick to regular green monsters. Thanks for being honest!
Thanks for the honest review Tina!
It’s seems strange when everyone starts raving about something, then to find out they are their new sponsor! Love your blog!!
@Pete: I guess you didn’t read what I wrote?
I did. Just shaking my head.
@Pete: I said I did NOT like it. Guess you missed that part?
I love coconut flavors!
I like all the amazing grass stuff but i’ve yet to bust out my Pomegranate mango infusion. I’m not a berry type of person unless they’re real fresh berries
I am not sponsored by Amazing Grass I just really like it
I totally agree on that flavor of Amazing Meal–it has an artificial flavor, which is odd, because I am pretty sure it’s all natural. You’re right–at least it’s good for us!
