Gloomy to Dreary

July 1, 2009

Man, the weather has turned from gloomy to gloomy and dreary. We’ve now have rain in Boston. Boo! Summer, where are you!?!?!

On the bright side, Mal and I might get to look at a great house tonight– 4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, updated kitchen, small deck, front and backyards! It has some serious potential, unlike a number of the other ones we’ve seen! Let’s just hope no one snatches it up before we even have a chance to look at it. This “buyers market” is crazy!

Lunch

Despite the icky weather, lunch was rather cheery with lots of colors and variety. I started with a homemade salad of Spring greens, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, brown rice, black beans, salsa, and pumpkin seeds.

I washed down the salad with a bottle of Elations, which didn’t taste that great, but, supposedly, with its 1,500 mg of Glucosamine and 1,200 mg of Chondroitin, it’s good for my joints. My hip better be happy!

The second half of lunch was truly outstanding! I enjoyed a Starbucks Greek Yogurt & Honey Parfait, which is probably the best tasting item I have ever eaten from there! It’s made with low-fat Greek yogurt, coconut-almond macaroon granola (yum!), pumpkin seeds, and dried cranberries. Trust me, you need to try it!

The granola stays crunchy by being packaged in a separate container that fits nicely into the larger parfait container. How convenient! ;-)

For just 290 calories, I have decided that the Greek Yogurt & Honey Parfait is my go-to treat for the rest of the summer (well, you know what I mean)! The parfait is a little high in fat (12 grams), but it tastes fantastic, has 8 grams of protein, and is a cool treat that won’t weight me down.

While the Greek Yogurt & Honey Parfait makes an excellent dessert/treat, I probably wouldn’t eat it for breakfast unless I paired it with something else. It’s not what I call a “hearty” breakfast.

For my afternoon snack, I have a container of Starbucks fruit salad, which was leftover from yesterday’s tasting.

Holter Monitor Results

My doctor finally got in touch with me about my Holter Monitor results. (Remember this fun time?) Well, everything was normal! Basically, I just have a slow heart beat, but I suppose that’s not bad, right?

Here are the details of my test:

  • Average heart rate was 59 beats per minute
  • Maximum heart rate 119
  • Minimum heart rate was 38
  • No significant episodes of low heart rate
  • No significant arrhythmias

I’m glad to hear that everything is okay! I wasn’t really worried, but there were definitely some scary thoughts that ran through my head, you know? I’m just glad it’s over and done with! Now, let’s see if I can deal with my stupid hip!

Back to work I go! Hope you’re enjoying your day!

Good job Starbucks! I’ve just recently gotten obsessed with parfaits this summer so I’m totally with you on that being a go to! :)

Thats awesome that you have the all clear :D I am acually tempted to go to the local starbucks here and see if we have healthy options available too. Somehow I don’t think we will get the greek yogurt parfaits in Canada :(

Good to know the parfait won’t disappoint, i will keep that in mind while traveling. Glad that your test results were fine. I had a holter, stress test, echo when I was 24 (almost 8 years ago now!), turned out to be acid reflux but I know how scary thoughts can enter your head (heart disease runs in my family so I was basically freaking out for 2 weeks)! Interestingly enough my heartbeat now is around 47, my doc said it was because of all the exercise I do. Hope you get some sunshine soon! We have a little now, but storms are coming!

That is a relief with the test results. This weather has really been crazy for Summer. I’m hoping it warms up for the holiday weekend.

That parfait looks incredible! Love the pumpkin seend mix-in! Glad to hear your results are normal, I too have a low heart rate and low blood pressure — I guess it’s better than being too high, huh?

Have a fantastic evening and have fun looking at the house!

My stepdad (who is a dr.) always told me that your heart only has a certain amount of beats in its lifetime and once they are all used up well…. you know. Wow, if that’s true you are going to have a long life! :D

Glad your tests turned out ok!

I’m glad the results were positive! Yay for a healthy heart!

GL on the house, it sounds fabulous and unheard of in your area… omg

Hey a little extra fat will keep you satiated for awhile longer, right? Sounds like a fab S-bucks treat!

The Starbucks yogurt sounds like such a great combo of igredients. Do you know if this stuff is already available nationwide or when they will roll it out?

I live in Brooklyn and haven’t seen it yet (although you did just write about it yesterday so maybe I should wait a week ha)

I love the Greek Yogurt Parfaits from starbucks!! I first got on a few months ago on a break from work. I’m not sure it’s the exact one you had but the nutritional info was identical and it was absolutely delicious!!

So cool that Starbucks is listening to the consumer and getting some healthier options! Yeah!
I also have a slow resting heart rate, it is usually around 58-60 bmp. My blood pressure is also lower than normal, but my doctor told me that it is really common with runners. I guess that’s means you’re fit…nothing to worry about! :) Hope the house is cute!

FYI you’d have to take glucosamine and chondroitin for 3-4 months daily to notice any improvement, and even then, a large NIH study a few years ago showed it was no better than placebo for treating osteoarthritis pain. It’s not thought to be beneficial for soft tissue pain (bursitis, IT band, etc). But if you like the taste of the drink I guess it’s a good way to get the supplement.
