Sensational Sandwich

July 7, 2009

Wow, what a day! I thought things were supposed to slow down at Harvard in the summer, but they definitely have not. My To Do list is insanely long and just keeps growing! Needless to say, I’m definitely looking forward to a mini-getaway this weekend!

Lunch

I ended up eating lunch at my desk this afternoon. Of course, I’d prefer not to eat at my desk, but my sandwich totally made up for the dining location!

The star ingredient of lunch’s today was grilled zucchini. I added it to a regular ol’ ham and Swiss sandwich on Arnold Grains & More Double Active 100% Whole Wheat Bread. The grilled veggies jazzed it right up!

No need for condiments on this sandwich. It had so many wonderful flavors!

I finished-off lunch with a Blondie Cupcake. Holy yum!

IMG_2645 Despite my crazy day, I was able to slip out of the office to meet a friend for a soy latte. We may have discussed plans for my sister’s upcoming wedding shower! ;-)
IMG_2647Right now, I am (im)patiently waiting for Mal to call me about the results of our home inspection. I’m so worried that something won’t check out. The house looked fine and dandy, but who knows what a home inspector can possibly find? I also want Mal to call because I am hungry! We are meeting for dinner then going to see Food, Inc. tonight. Has anyone seen it yet? Thoughts? I’ve heard all sorts of opinions about it.

I usually have to eat at my desk. Today I had a hummus/veggie sandwich on my homemade whole wheat bread! Posting the recipe tomorrow:) Good luck with the house! I am sure it will be fine. I was nervous when ours wasn’t final yet. I REALLY want to see Food Inc. doesn’t come to Salt Lake until the 17th. Have fun!

Food, Inc. isn’t playing by me yet! I’ve heard great things, though, and can’t wait to hear what you think! Good luck with the inspection — I’m sure it’ll be fine! ;)

i know how you feel about those to-do lists! that sandwich looks great! I haven’t seen that bread around here.

I haven’t seen the movie since it’s not playing here, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

Oh my gosh Tina, YOU HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE! This is what I thought, and trust me, it’s a lot… http://daniellestudiesabroad.blogspot.com/2009/07/hungry-for-change.html

My friends saw Food Inc and loved it. I am waiting for it to come to my town. Good luck with the inspection!

The only good thing about the home inspection is if anything is really wrong, the seller will have to fix it. Try not to worry too much!

Every time you post about desserts it reminds me that you need to add Tartine to your list of things to do in SF…not only do they have bread pudding, they also have the most amazing desserts ever. Classic SF experience! ;)

Food Inc is a definite must see. I saw it last week in Coolidge Corner and was able to bring my ticket stub to the nearby Whole Foods in Brighton for a free bag from Stonyfield with coupons in it! Maybe your theatre will have the same deal going on!

I’m looking forward to seeing that movie. My boyfriend and I were going to see it over the weekend but we didn’t end up going because the weather was just too beautiful to be inside.

The only thing I am curious about is how different or new the stuff covered will be from all the books on the topic. This really interests me so I’ve read a lot ranging from What to Eat to In Defense of Real Food to The Ethics of Why We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter (my personal favorite) so I’m starting to feel like I already know a ton. But even if there is nothing new I am sure I will enjoy the movie.

I really liked Food Inc. Michael Pollan is in a lot of it if that gives you an idea of the topics it touches upon.

I’m afraid to see it. I already know so many horrible things and feel guilty enough and putting a picture to it will really hit it home….but I guess that’s the point.

thanks for the links to those articles. the one about the organic labeling is something i’ve been thinking about a lot recently. it’s sad how little we can really trust what were told. can’t wait to hear your food inc thoughts!

Your sandwich looks and sounds delicious! I hope the home inspection went well; it’s so exciting, yet so nerve-wrecking at times, to buy a house!

Let us know what you think about food inc.!

Enjoy Food Inc. I saw it last night and found it both horrifying and inspiring. Gosh–there were so many parts of the movie that moved me to tears. I am currently in the process of consuming what’s left in my house and re-stocking my freezer, fridge and pantry with mostly locally grown, organic products. I will still consume animal products, but I will cut back consumption significantly and stick to purchasing products where I know the animals were treated well and not fed some ridiculous diet of corn, growth hormones and antibiotics.

Yummy sandwich! I thought it was avocado at first but grilled zucchini sounds good too :)

Jocelyn July 8, 2009 at 10:08 am

Hey Tina! That grilled zucchini looks great! I need to add some more vegetable (besides salads) into my diet to create more of a variety. I was just wondering what you grilled them with? Oil? Thanks!

Tina July 8, 2009 at 10:09 am

@Jocelyn: Nada. Just threw the slices on the Griddler.
