Breakfast Begins With B

July 28, 2009

Good morning, blogland! 8-)

I think I’ve finally got my exercise mojo back. As you remember, I was in a mini-slump last week, but it feels like it has lifted! (Btw, you guys had A LOT to say about “exercise guilt“!)

Last night, I had a sweaty 50-minute workout on the elliptical and then woke up bright and early for some at-home Body Pump. I feel like a new woman! :-D

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was all about the letter ‘B.’ I started with sliced banana and fresh blueberries.

And then moved onto a toasted whole wheat cinnamon raisin bagel with Barney Butter spread on top.

And finished with New England Coffee Breakfast Blend iced coffee.

A beautiful breakfast!

Party Hardy

I *think* I am proud of my alma materPrinceton Review lists top party schools

Lucky #13!!!

In college, I could party with the best of ‘em! Seven years later, however, it’s a totally different story. Grandma needs to be in bed after 2 glasses of wine! :-? Seriously, though, college was such a blast for me! Especially since, in high school, I was shy and dorky. A little booze helped me come out of my shell! ;-)

And, just for fun, here are some of my “party hardy” photos from college.

This pic is from Senior Week. The mean looking girl may not look like my friend, but she’s my best friend from college. She looks a lot nicer in this photo!

That was a fun night! ;-)

Question of the Day

Was/is your college a party school? Did it make this year’s Princeton Review list?

Oh, definitely! I went to Miami University (in Ohio) and I think that being in the middle of a cornfield left us with little else to do but party like no tomorrow!

Long time reader, first time poster….

Here is some weird info for you–I went to Union, I was raised in Acton, I lived in Boston right after college, but I’m now out in a ‘burb. I am getting married this Sunday (!!!!!) to my high school sweet heart.

Also i love your blog.

My school beat yours and came in at #9. :) Go Florida State!

FSU was definitely known as a party school and I admit to partying really hard. I used to go out 5 nights a week! I struggle to go out once a month now. lol

I am a proud graduate of “Reefer Madness” aka: University of Colorado. LOVE it!!!

Haha, I went to Ohio University. #5 on the list! Sadly, I was a commuter, so I didn’t partake in *too* many parties on campus :)

i cannot believe U PITT didnt make the list! it is such a party school. :)

Blueberries and banana are two of my favorites. I liked to mix them in smoothies when I had a blender.

Thandk for the old pics. It’s fun to see what people used to look like and do. My school was definitely not on the top and not a party school. Not to say we didn’t have some fun occasionally. But a small Christian college wouldn’t be on that list. I do however remember some fun nights out when I was studying in Spain. Got some goofy pics to prove it too. :-)

I dunno HOW you go to the gym at night and then work out in the morning! Seems like overkill.

Then again I am admittingly jealous!

Hah!! Love the blast from the past pictures!! My school is SO NOT a party school – nothing goes on! We all go to other schools to party :)

Rebecca July 28, 2009 at 10:49 am

My college used to be the #1 party school. (University of Albany) but it’s not anymore for some reason. I love your ‘B’ breakfast!!

Joanna July 28, 2009 at 10:55 am

Pretty impression considering Union is the highest ranked school on the party list that is not a state school… I remember my senior year there (or maybe junior?) we were #3 and there was SUCH an administrative backlash.

Katie July 28, 2009 at 10:58 am

I went to Penn State! #1!! I definitely have experienced my fair share of partying during the 4 years I was there, but now I teach 2nd grade and am exhausted all the time. So I too have gone into Grandma mode :) It’s not such a bad thing, though!

I love the old Union photos Tina! They are great!

Ahh number 19. Always kind of suprised by that…. after all Tulane is in New Orleans. We just did a different kind of partying and most of it was off campus.

I think it shows a bit of self control to actually graduate from college there…. especially on time and with a masters! That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy myself though!!

that breakfast looks delicious! i really need to start waking up earlier so i can really enjoy my mornings! i usually roll out of bed at 5:30 already though .. ugh .. long commute to work.

i knew my school had to be on that list …

#10 !! haha

I definitely wouldn’t call my college (NGCSU) a party school, but I still love it!

Hi Tina!

I just started reading your blog within the last few weeks (LOVE IT, by the by!). I was excited when reading this post to learn you went to Union – I recently moved to the Schenectady area (my apartment is in Scotia) and am not very familiar with the area. I know there is A LOT going on around here, but I don’t always know where to start, you know?

I was hoping maybe you could suggest some of your favorite places in the area? I’m going through a major life change right now (broken engagement) and pouring a lot of energy into making my life spectacular. I don’t have many friends in the area yet- and I am looking for places to hike/run/explore and find good, decently-healthy food! Any suggestions you could throw my way would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for your wonderful blog, too!

Tina July 28, 2009 at 11:31 am

@Heather: To be honest, I didn’t leave campus much, and as you probably know, Schenectady is pretty meh. But maybe isn’t gotten better!? I loved visiting Saratoga Springs! :)

Bree July 28, 2009 at 11:33 am

Yes – definitely went to a party school. I think all schools in this are are party schools though. Didn’t make the list this time, but it has in the past. Grand traditions such as case day, kegs and eggs, and Thirsty Thursdays. My friends and I always wonder how we did it all….party, study, work, and manage to get good grades on such little sleep and such bad diets!

I love your photos. Brings me right back – especially knowing you scanned those in. Pre-digital days!

I went to college near Union! :) My alma mater was actually listed as a number one (not sure if it was Princeton’s list though…) party school a few years back ;) We partied crazy!

Cute old photos!! Those are the best!

Tina, just wondering…I know you dated Mal in high school, were you guys dating in college too? Or did you go through a break? Sorry if that’s too personal!

Reply

Tina July 28, 2009 at 12:12 pm

@KT: I’m 3 years older, so we dated when HE was in college! :)

I have a time in college for sure- though it didn’t make the list. But I am still having a blast now four years later! Check it out http://www.weliveneon.com

Yay for getting back into the workout groove. It doesn’t take long to feel 100% better! :)

I wasn’t a huge partier in school but now, its one or two and done! I can’t handle it. :)

Awwww you beat me by one place – I went to Indiana University #14. When I was in my third year we were voted #1 mostly because the previous 2 years there had been some riot uproar.

Reply

Deirdre July 28, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Love the pics! I went to Fordham which didn’t make the list. We def partied but I’d like to say that the library was as crowded as the bars were depending on the time of year! Moderation, right?! LOL

Wow, the way things were going I really would have expected the party atmosphere at Union to tone DOWN! Thanks for posting those pics – I always loved (and was a bit envious) how close your pledge class was!!

Reply

Liz July 28, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I don’t think Siena made the list, but it should least get an honorable mention! Schenectady is meh, but i love going to villa italia for gelato!

Reply

Leah July 28, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Haha, Boston College is a “closet” party school, which is why it didn’t make the list. I will always be amazed at how BC students could party all night and all morning, and still function (well) the next day.
