Ahhhh, photo shoot today!
I’m excited, but so incredibly nervous. I got a spray tan and spent a butt-load of money at Lululemon, so I guess I feel prepared!? Eek, I’m soooo nervous! Wish me luck!
My stomach is full of butterflies this morning, so I opted for a light-ish breakfast: 365 Frosted Shredded Wheat, vanilla soy milk, and fresh blueberries.

I love fresh blueberries!
FYI: They’re on sale at Whole Foods this week.

I also drank a glass of iced coffee with vanilla soy milk and agave nectar.

31 Days of Summer
I totally took this idea from this month’s Self magazine, but I thought it would be fun to my own version on Carrots ‘N’ Cake.
It’s been a yucky summer here in Boston. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve complained about it… a lot. (Sorry!) Since there isn’t much summer left, I’d like to squeeze every last bit of “sunshine” out of each day. I know fun times can’t be forced, but situations can be created where you enjoy yourself and good things will happen.
Here’s how it will work: I will post one summer fun “tidbit” each day of August. If you wish, you can act upon it. By participating, you will hopefully add a tiny amount of sunshine to your final days of summer.
- Example: Sprawl in the grass for a few minutes and daydream. Roll down a hill, if you wish.
Here’s where you come in: I will be accepting summer fun tidbits from now until the end of August to post on CNC. Feel free to send me your favorite tips, tricks, ideas, activities, recipes, quotes, photos, etc. that make you happy and scream summer fun to you. I will post one each day of August.
And, of course, feel free to document your summer fun with photos. I would love to share these on CNC throughout the month of August to inspire us all to enjoy the final days!
CNC Goes to BlogHer Food
As you may remember, I’m attending BlogHer Food in San Fransciso this coming September. Needless to say, I am beyond psyched! And, I am lucky to have an awesome sponsor for it: Nasoya!
I LOVE Nasoya’s Silken Creations and have raved about them on the blog a number of times, so I was absolutely thrilled when they offered to sponsor me!
Thank you Nasoya for making this trip possible!
Question of the Day
Are you a “dog person” or a “cat person”?

I am a dog person and actually got a puppy this weekend – his name is Dobby and he is a chocolate standard poodle. And for my summer fun idea take a walk after dark – you may just see some fireflies.
Good luck at the photoshoot… The weather has been equally crappy here as well.
DEFINITELY a dog person
Yay for BlogHer in SF!! That’s awesome! And so exciting you got a sponsor!! CnC is BIG TIME NOW!
Good luck with the photo shoot!! I’m sure you will look gorgeous Tina!
Very jealous that you get to go to BlogHer- I would love to do something like that. Hooray for your awesome sponser.
I think this idea for the 31 days of summer is fabulous. I’m sort of hoping summer continues forever…
Obviously I’m a dog person! Wrinkly dogs are the best!!
Have a good one
I’m a dog person 100%.
Love your summer tips idea. We’ve had the same lack of summer here in NYC so I really need to find a way to stretch out this final month!
I am a total dog person!! i’d have a house full if my husband would let me!!
good luck today!!!!
I love your fun tidbit per day thing, looking forward to a little stress reliever!
And I’m definetely a cat person, I’ve had 7 kitties my whole life:)
Dog AND cat person here! I have a collie and two tuxedo kitties. Heck, I would be a goat, cow, piggie person if I could (and had a farm for them to live on)!
I’m totally a dog person
Can’t wait to get one some day! Hopefully we’ll have a beautiful fall here in the Northeast!
31 days of summer sounds like a fun idea.
I’m a cat person. They’re just so much easier and don’t smell as bad!
Good luck at the photo shoot!
I am a cat person, all the way. We have three and they are like my children
Good luck with the photo shoot!
I am so jealous of you going to BlogHer food! Wow! Congrats on the sponsor!
I enjoy the 31 days of summer – such a good idea!
Have fun at the photo shoot!
**I’m definitely a dog person!!
I’m sure you’ll do great at the shoot, just have fun!
And I have 2 cats because dogs aren’t allowed in our building… but I do love them too.
Dog person… all the way!
Good luck at the photoshoot!!!
I’m a cat person, but I love dogs too. My first pet when I was a kid growing up was a dog. Then we got a cat. And now that I live with hubby we have 2 cats. So I guess I prefer the ease of taking care of cats more than dogs but I certain,ly love my dogs, just not huge ones that jump on me!
goodoluck at the shoot – you will ROCK the lululemons!
whole foods is also having a 50% off sale on their 365 brand shampoos/conditioners – such a deal!
Good luck with your shoot- you will be amazing I’m sure! I like this idea of 31 days of summer! If I come up with any I will shoot them your way
Good luck on the shoot! I think I’m more of a dog person, but I have a cat too
Good luck today!! You know you’re bangin’ hot when you’re in SHAPE magaine!
Dogs or cats? Both! Although I secretly aspire to be an old cat lady. I think they’re interesting people.
Good luck with the shoot! Can’t wait to see it when it goes to print!
I am a dog and cat person! Great idea for the 31 days of summer. I normally have a very stressful summer at work with meetings and deadlines through the first week of August. After that, it becomes the Summer of Meghan (a little ode to Seinfeld!) and we plan some sort of summer fun every day to get the most of it before it is the neverending winter again!
Ahh…love the 31 days of summer idea. How fun!!
Good luck at the photo shoot today!! You’ll be great!
I’m definitely a dog person, but love cats too.
This is such a great idea. We all too often take summer for granted and don’t really fully appreciate it until it’s winter again.
And I can’t choose that I’m a dog or cat person (I have one of each.) I’m more of an “animal person.” haha
What is your photo shoot for?!
Most definitely a cat person. I’ve never met a cat I didn’t like. Ok, there was one cat I didn’t like.
Yeah for Self!! I can’t wait to see the completed product. Its of the magazines I love to read at the gym.
I am totally a dog person. I have two; a PomChi named Peanut and a Puffy Chinese Crested named Leo. Hunni and I love them so much and they crack us up. Cats make my eyes itch so no cats for us even though our dogs love to make friends with my mom’s cat.
Good luck today!!!!! I am a cat person. Don’t hate me.
We are not allowed to have dogs (or any pets) in our apartment, but we know there are so many benefits to spending time with a furry friend (exercise built-in while walking them, stress relief, greater overall happiness), SO we signed up with our local animal shelter to take the dogs out for walks. This way, we get all the above benefits AND the pups benefit! Sadly, animal shelters are feeling the effects of the economy, so any time you can spend volunteering helps as the shelters become more and more crowded. So do it! There’s nothing more fun than taking a dog – and yourself! – out for some exercise on a summer night.
Tina, what does it exactly mean that you are being sponsored by Nasoya?
Dog person, all the way!!!
@D: They’re giving me money to support my trip. At BlogHer Food I will be an “ambassador” of sorts and hand out coupons.
Good luck at photo shoot! Dog person, hands down.
Good luck today! I’ve never gotten a spray tan, but I picture the friends episode when Ross gets sprayed too many times and is dark orange. hilarious.
Congrats on going to the conference
I am definitely a dog person. I work at a vet clinic and every time a cat comes in, I make someone else do things to it. But, we have a clinic cat and she is kind of cool. I would rather have a dog than a cat any day though.
Have fun at the photo shoot!
I’m a cat person, my mom has never allowed dogs!
I think I missed the announcement of your photo shoot – how exciting! Congrats and good luck today!
(totally a cat person)
dog person! have a great photo shoot!
We always had cats when I was growing up, but I love dogs too! I’d love to get a pocket beagle or a puggle. Sighh…I think I’ve had ice cream every day for the last 2 weeks. Maybe not the healthiest way to celebrate summer, but SO good
I’m a cat person, although I do love dogs, too.
Can’t wait to read a recap of the photo shoot!
I am totally a cat person. Dogs scare me, even though I think they are cute. I have 2 kitties.
Good luck on your photo shoot! You will be great!
I was a total cat person until we got our dog Jersey.
While I still love a good snuggle with my cat, I love how loyal a dog is.
Good luck with the shoot! What is it for? Did I miss something?
I love the tidbit idea – laying in the grass sounds heavenly and I haven’t done it all summer!
I am hands down, 100% a dog person! I can’t stand cats at all!! It doesn’t help that I’m allergic but I’d rather cuddle with a dog than a cat! Good luck today – you’ll be fierce
Have fun and good luck today! You will be great! I am going to Blogher Food too! I would love to meet you in person! I can’t wait! I love your summer tip idea. I will try to come up with a few:) I am dog person all the way. I had a golden retriever growing up. Hubs is allergic to dogs so we don’t have any pets:(
Good luck at the photo shoot..can’t wait to see it in print!!
Definitely a dog person!!
I’m definitely a dog person!! You have such great ideas! I’m jealous that you’re going to BlogHer in Cali!!
Good Luck today!
I’m definitely a dog person. I have two, a toy poodle named Bailey and a mini australian shephard named Chief. There are tons of pics of them on my blog!
I am a cat person. You are going to love San Francisco. I’m here right now and I ran the San Francisco marathon yesterday and guess what I QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON!!!!!!! I’m so psyched to be going to your city. So if you don’t mind later I would love some advice on Boston of course closer to the race.
Good Luck today!!
I was always a dog person, but I rescued a 4 week old (runt) kitten from a shelter about 2 years ago and I completely love him! He is mostly Siamese and he sits like a dog and “talks” all the time. He really is a lot of fun for a cat
Your summer tip idea is awesome, we’ve had so few days that felt summery! We really need to make the last month count!
By the way…I had my first bowl of non-instant/non-preflavored oats today and I will definitely be doing it again. Last weeks post on creamy oats inspired me to try this I made it with bananas and a little Teddie pb, it was great!
I like both- but am definitely more of a dog person. Chloe kind of owns me.
Good luck with the photo shoot! That is so exciting!
I like them both… but while I love animals, but I don’t really want a pet. I feel like I work and travel so much, I wouldn’t be able to give a pet the attention it deserves. I also have terrible allergies! Living in downtown Chicago also doesn’t make pet ownership all that easy… not much space for a dog to run around!
That being said, once we have kids, I think I might like a mid-sized dog…
