You Are What You Eat

June 2, 2009

Greetings from the Church Street Starbucks!

I’m such a dork, but I love to pretend that I am a full-time blogger on my lunch breaks. I order my coffee, get all set up with my laptop, and blog away like it’s my job.

Wouldn’t blogging for a living be the best job ever?!? I know that I would enjoy it immensely! Well, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming, right? ;-)

My view of Church Street:

My drink of choice this afternoon is an iced coffee with soy milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Lunch

I ate lunch at my desk today, so I could have some extra time to work on some “outside projects” during my blogging time. Eating and blogging simultaneously is actually quite difficult. I don’t have a chance to thoroughly enjoy my meal, so I try not to do it too often. Plus, I don’t want to spill food on my laptop!

Lunch started with leftover pizza with broccoli, red potato, and Fontina cheese, which was superb eaten cold.

The rest of my lunch included homemade trail mix + a banana.

In my trailmix:

  • Banana chips
  • Pecans
  • 2 dried apricots
  • Butterscotch chips

You Are What You Eat

A friend of mine recently sent me a link to this photo project: You Are What You Eat. The project displays “full frontal” photos of people’s refrigerators, including the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I found this project incredibility fascinating! I love seeing what other people have in their fridge because much of the time it says something about them.

This project also inspired me to create my own “You Are What You Eat” on Carrots ‘N’ Cake. I am going on vacation in a couple of weeks, so I thought it’d be fun to display images of what is inside your refrigerators while I am away. It’ll be cool to see if the contents of your refrigerators hold true to the idea: “you are what you eat.”

To participate:

Email me (tina@carrotsncake.com) a “full frontal” shot of your refrigerator by Monday, June 15.

With your “full frontal” refrigerator shot, please include the following info:

  • First name (and/or blog URL)
  • City, State
  • How many people live in your household
  • Occupation
  • Brief sentence explaining how your fridge represents you.

Question of the Day

What do you think of this? Creative? Disgusting? Something else?

Your lunch looks good, Tina. Was the pizza better hot or cold?

The McTinni sounds terrible, I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit reading about that…

Very cool, I’ll definitely consider participating. I love checking out other people’s fridges (does that make me a creeper?).

LOVE your pizza. Fontina on anything is delicious!!

Love the full-frontal fridge idea! (it was always my favorite part on cribs! — does that show still exist?)

Ew in regards to the last link. I’m not a fan.

The McNuggetini HAS TO BE a joke. LOL… that’s just ridiculous, but funny!

The fridge picture thing sounds fun! I love seeing what other people have inside their fridge. I’ll participate!!

I see Border Cafe! Love those house $5 ritas and what a mexie menu.
I will be entering my frig tonight. Blogging what I eat has really made me more concious about what I have in there.
McNuggetini, not a fan. I would rather have something like a Ho-Hotini

What a WONDERFUL guest blog idea!!

Hallie June 2, 2009 at 2:20 pm

No comment on the link. I saw the title and couldn’t force myself to click through.

Two questions for you: 1. is that YOUR fridge? Holy vegetables! That’s impressive. 2. Is it cheating to clean/organize my fridge before sending in a photo? I’d be a little embarrased to share it in it’s current state :-)

Reply

Tina June 2, 2009 at 2:21 pm

@Hallie: Nope, not my fridge, but I will be including mine when I display all of them.

Feel free to clean up your fridge (or not) as you’d like– as long as it’s a good representation of you! :)

Mellissa June 2, 2009 at 2:28 pm

That drink looks really gross. I may participate in the fridge fun too, but may need to do some re-organizing.

Low June 2, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Yeah, that’s disgusting, but I see the humor in it if it’s a joke.

I’ll totally be sending a fridge pic!

Eek about the McDonald’s thing =(

I have to give props though to deep-fried Oreos. They are simply an orgasm in your mouth. I had one once and I’ll never have it again, but those few seconds in my mouth were amazing.

The fridge-thing is a great idea! I remember there was an article in a magazine a few years ago where they took pictures of different celeb’s fridges – a chef, a politician and a comedian. They couldn’t be more different!
My fridge is coming your way! :) By the way, your trail mix looks really good, but why are the apricots all black?

My keyboards are FULL of food crumbs. It is so gross but I can’t stop eating in front of the comp. Good for you for avoiding it!

Your leftover pizza once again looks amazing, I love all leftovers cold. Mmmm! LOVE the fridge idea. Whoever owns that fridge you posted definitely makes a lot of green juice from the looks of it! Or else eats salad constantly..

I love the McNuggetini. I want one of my own. I saw it on thisiswhyyourefat.com a few months ago!

I will have to do some fridge cleaning over the next week! One thing I love doing is looking in other people’s baskets at the grocery store while waiting in line. I try to figure out if there is a particular recipe they are making, what type of diet they have etc, so I would love to see the contents of others’ refrigerators!

Nicole June 2, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Hi! I’m all about showing you my fridge! It shows exactly how different my eating habits are from my boyfriend’s.
Oh, and the McNuggetitni? Was that real?? Really?? hahaha…gross…funny but gross.

LOVE the fridge idea! I will def have to wait until after a weekend shopping trip – my fridge looks pretty pathetic right now!!

HAHA that McNugget thing is pretty nasty. I can say that when I used to eat at Wendy’s, fries were AWESOME dipped in a frosty. I’m just sayin…

Love the fridge idea! How cool!

That McNuggitini looks nasty!! I like vodka, don’t get me wrong, but YUCK!

Like Amanda, post #35, I also used to eat Wendy’s fries dipped in my Frosty! My afterschool snack in high school. I was just telling hubby that the other day and he laughed at me!

Reply

Oh, I’ll totally be sending in a fridge photo. I think it would be fun (even if I don’t get around to cleaning my fridge before the photo shoot).

I think the McNuggettini is hilarious! I saw it ages ago on “This Is Why You’re Fat”. I’m sure it tastes horrible, but I enjoy their creativity.

Reply

emily June 2, 2009 at 6:58 pm

Haha, I thought that was hilarious – I’m not sure I would drink one but it would be fun for a theme party!

We ended up eating at Game On or whatever that place is called in Boston by Fenway. It was pretty decent, but Boston as a whole was waaaayyyyy too busy for me. I thought I was going to have a panic attack at any given second. I’m from Jacksonville and I thought I lived in a big city, but it turns out, Jacksonville is very mild. Ha.
