Non-Stop Sunday

Quick heads-up: Tonight’s post is going to be a quickie! I’ve been running around non-stop all day and I still have a million things to do tonight. Gah!

I woke up bright and early this morning, did my usual routine, and headed immediately out the door to my mom’s house, which is about an hour away.

My Sunday morning breakfast: Hemp toast with almond butter and banana slices.

With iced coffee…

[Fast-forward to tonight]

For dinner tonight, I kept things simple with a bowl of Honey Nut Shredded Wheat, sliced strawberries, and vanilla soy milk. I basically ate all afternoon long, so when dinnertime rolled around tonight, I wasn’t too hungry.

The reason why I was eating all day long was because I helped my grandmother and mother prepare for a family BBQ at my grandparents’ house this afternoon. For me, it’s always so tempting to dig into the party food before the event starts, but I was mostly well-behaved today and only munched on a few bites. But, let’s just say, I got an early start on the snacking! There was SO MUCH delicious food at the party– I had a tough time not snacking!

My sister’s fiancé’s family was also invited to the BBQ today, so it was quite the event, especially since many of the family members were meeting for the first time this afternoon.

Blue Cheese- and Cranberry-Stuffed Endive…

IMG_2275.JPGI love these things! I probably ate 3 or 4 of them! Holy yum!

I also dug into my aunt’s veggie and hummus platter. I especially loved the oven-roasted cauliflower, which was tossed in olive oil and seasoned with Montreal Steak Seasoning. The beet and sweet potato chips were also really good.

Surprisingly, I passed on having a piece of cake tonight. I overindulged so much on vacation, I feel like I need a serious detox now! Oh well. There will be other cakes, right? (FYI: Pat & Steph are my sister and her fiance.)

I chowed on the bruschetta, too. There’s just something about fresh bruschetta that I can’t seem to turn down!

My grandfather fired up the grill, but I passed on the meat selections.

Instead, I filled up with the “fresher” options.

Lots of salad and raw veggies!

My sister gave me the best magnet for my birthday! It totally cracked me up!

I still need to write my Health post and get ready for the work week. I guess vacation is over. Boo! :-?

    That magnet is really cute.

Wow I’m really impressed w/the food at your family BBQ. My family bbqs look like we bought out the chip and soft drink aisles and threw in a few hotdogs and beef pattys. Since I eat exactly NONE of that stuff, I’m usually starving at family functions. That endive dish would have been a major issue for me. I might have eaten that whole row.

Boo for the end of vaca. Have a great week tho!

Those endive cups are so cute! I wish I had stuff like that at my family parties. All we get are potato chips and hot dogs. Well, except for me…I make my own food.

Now that’s what I call a family gathering! The food at our family events tend to be super rich and indulgent. It looks like your family has a great balance in terms of healthy food! Looks like a nice day :)

So cute with the flowers!!! Wow you would never find that at my fam gatherings! It’s funny because I was actually going to make a very similar stuffed endive dish for my 3rd of July bash… I have made the same stuffing with blue cheese atop french toast points but I was trying to think of a way to make it a bit fresher and healthier! I hope mine look half as good!

Those endive look so good! I make have to try that with almonds instead of walnuts (the family is allergic). I had never thought of make your own bruschetta, takes away a lot of time consuming prep work. Awesome ideas!
