Green Mango Smoothie

Good morning, blog friends!

My Hump Day is off to a great start! I had a wonderful workout followed by an even more wonderful breakfast.

I started with a delicious and super filing Green Mango Smoothie.

Green Mango Smoothie

  • 1 mango, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped frozen spinach
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1 -2 tbsp hemp protein (or other protein powder)
  • 5-8 ice cubs

Along with my smoothie, I also enjoyed a Peanut Buttery Bar, and I’m planning to finish off breakfast with an iced coffee with agave nectar and soy milk. I love these types of breakfasts that satisfy me both mentally and physically. :-D

Workout

Strength Training: 30 minutes

  • Triceps Press/Knee Tuck (8-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Wide-Stance Deadlift (12-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Pilé-Curl Combo (12-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Rocket Squat (10-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Single-Leg Row (8-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Balancing Biceps (12-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Supergirl Hamstring Curl (8-pound dumbbells, 15 reps, 2 sets)
  • Squat Flye (10-pound dumbbells, 15 resp, 2 sets)

Cardio: 30 minutes

  • Elliptical while reading magazines

mmm maybe if I can I’ll bake your peanut buttery bars for the potluck this Sunday! I heard you can’t come!!! Hopefully next time, I would love to meet you and talk to you about your job. I am really interested in pursuing the same type of career as you. Your mango smoothie looks perfect!
I would have to say right now my favorite day of the week in WED. because it’s my last day of class for the week and then my weekend begins!!!! And I get to go to a SOX game tonight!!!

YUM! i think i might have to try the peanut buttery bars.

Per your house hunt… Definitely look at a lot of places. And be prepared for ANYTHING! we had a nightmare of a mortgage lender that worked with us, and completely screwed us over. and we ended up having to put more money down, and close 2 days later than we were supposed to! You’re definitely lucky with the first time home buyers 8000 credit.

Those peanut buttery bars look awesome; I already book marked the recipe!

My favorite day of the week is up in the air right now! Normally I love weekends, but with my sweetheart gone (it’s been 10 weeks today!!! AHHH!) the weekends are less shiny. He should be home soon, though, so Sunday will probably be my favorite day :)

I think my favorite day of the week is Sunday. I usually take this day to do what I love, cook and bake. Some Sundays I don’t even get out of my P.J’s. I just enjoy being home in my “little” nest.
I was hoping you might be able to know the nutrtional value on the bars and how many does it serve?

Fridays are definitely up there but for the sake of being “original” I would have to say Monday because it’s a fresh start and usually good shows are on TV!

My favorite day is by far Friday. It seems so full of excitement and possibility with the entire weekend ahead. I love Friday nights knowing that, even though I usually wake up early on Saturday, I have a couple of hours before rushing anywhere.

    Tina,
During my summer break, I don’t start work until 11 am and do my workouts in the morning. I know you usually snack before a morning work out. Do you very the “energy density” of the snack based on the workout? For example, today I did a 45 min spinning class followed by a 1 hour toneing/aerobic type class. I’m just not sure how “big” of a snack to have, because I don’t want it to ruin my normal breakfast. Afterall, it’s my favorite meal! :)

  37. Tina — June 17, 2009 @ 10:04 am

@Allison: I don’t always eat a snack before my morning workout. It just depends on my hunger level. It’s usually a 100-150 calorie snack, if I have one– just to tie me over until breakfast.

Tina- b/c monkey see, monkey do it seems in the blog world. Someone gets BB so everyone has to get it. Now everyone actually can stand the sight of a GREEN drink. Or someone gets “raw” bars that look like poop and then everyone has to get them. It’s like the idea of eating normal healthy food has gone out of style.

Friday is probobly my favorite since I start my day with a long run at the YMCA, I know I won’t have to WORK after that morning, I go swimming and stay at my grandma’s (very nice) house, and Friday is WHOLE FOODS DAY! Me and grams usually stop by WF and Fresh Market Friday evening to pick up dinner and weekly groceries. Friday rocks.

I was excited to see you use frozen spinach in your smoothie. I’ve often wondered why no one seems do do that, since frozen tends to be cheaper than fresh, and there’s that theory that frozen veggies have more nutrients, being frozen at their peak and all that. Did you notice any difference using the frozen vs. fresh spinach (assuming you’ve used fresh before; I can’t quite remember!). Thanks!

I don’t mean to be rude because I love your blog, but your strength workouts make me laugh. It’s obvious that you don’t take strength training seriously. I mean 10 and 12 lb dumbbells? Come on, you should be using 20 to 25 lb dumbbells for any type of decent workout. And it seems so disorganized. You should focus on just one or two muscle groups at a time to really work them out. Do you even feel any muscle pain after these workouts? I’m guessing no. But then again you remind me of 95% of girls in the weight room doing there ‘barbie’ weight workouts. You should put down Shape magazine and pick up something that will teach you something about a real weight workout.

Saturday is my favorite because I don’t have to take care of the kids all by myself, which is great but very tiring! Do you have any make ahead breakfast ideas that my family can make for Father’s day? I haven’t been able to think of anything so I thought I would see if you have any ideas. My husbands parents will be staying with us and they are VERY early risers (sometimes 4:30am!) so if I can make it the night before and maybe just heat it up in the morning that would really help. Have a great day Tina!

What’s ridiculous is that Courtney starts a rude post with “I don’t mean to be rude, but”. I mean, personally I use heavier weights but that is just me and I would never “laugh” at someone else’s workout just because it was not the same as mine.

  62. Courtney — June 17, 2009 @ 3:14 pm

Stephanie- 20 to 25 lb dumbbells instead of 10 to 12 for bicep curls i’m sure you would agree no? I doubt you are lifting much heavier. If you take strength training seriously as you have implied, then you will also agree that these strength training workouts can not be very effective. Most girls are unaware that you can and should lift heavier for better results.
AS for Tina, if you concentrated on doing more effective leg workouts, you would probably reduce your likelihood of getting injured during half-marathon training.

Actually Courtney, although I do use heavier weights for biceps (20lbs now) that would not make me agree with your comment because it was so rude and not necessarily true. First, you don’t know what Tina’s goals are for her training, her strength etc. And further, if you were so experienced you would know that even a 5lb weight could be hard enough if you a) increased the reps b) did the reps slower etc. c)combined it with other moves (aka lunges) To challenge your muscles you have to constantly change things up and that is how you get results. It is not all about the weight.
