Saturday Things & Flogg DAILY Winner

May 2, 2009

I totally forgot to announce the winner of the Flogg DAILY Giveaway this morning. Oops! Sorry, guys! So, without further ado, here is your Random Integer: 205

#205 Brooke
I need this because I need to track my workouts better to get some sense of why my “good” and “bad” days happen.

Congrats, Brooke! Please email me (tina@carrotsncake.com) with your full name and mailing address.

Breakfast

My morning started with my lovely husband whipping up a batch of pancakes for me! What guy! :-D I snapped this photo of him because I got such a kick out of his pancake-making set-up: iHome + laptop + iced coffee. Mal definitely got himself prepared!

Mal makes the BEST pancakes ever! They’re light and fluffy– almost cake-like!

I dipped my pancakes in 1/4 cup of maple syrup. Surprisingly, 1/4 cup of syrup goes a long way. I was surprised! I also had a glass of iced coffee with chocolate soy milk (not pictured) while Mal was flipping pancakes.

Groceries

Mal and I are eating out 6 out of 7 days next week, so we kept our weekly grocery shopping fairly small. Since we didn’t need a lot, it was also the perfect excuse to go to Whole Foods. ;-) Here’s a glimpse into our food selections for the week…

Yep, I actually took a photo of our groceries on the conveyor belt at Whole Foods. What can I say, I’m a dedicated food blogger!

Lunch

By the time we finished grocery shopping and visiting Banana Republic, J. Crew, and the Apple Store, I was famished! Pancakes are delicious and all, but they do not keep you full for long. Boo, refined carbs and sugar! :-x (P.S. Banana Republic is having some sweet sales right now. I scored a pair of originally $120 peep-toe wedges for just $27! )

At home, I threw together a salad with greens, grape tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, red onions, cucumbers, balsamic vinegar, and a scoop of leftover feta-walnut spread. The appearance of the feta-walnut spread reminded me of cat food, but it tasted sooo incredibly delicious– lots of feta flavor! Mal finished off the feta-walnut spread by scooping it up with chips.

On the side, I had a portion of Food Should Taste Good chips (“The Works” flavor), which I liked a lot. This company makes a lot of other interesting flavors, including sweet potato chips, that I am dying to try!

I dipped my chips into some homemade roasted red pepper hummus that I made this morning using my wonderful and amazing VitaMix

I’m debating what to do with the rest of my afternoon. It’s the perfect weather for a run outside, but sadly, I injured my hip last weekend on my long run, so I am taking a week off. Maybe a walk outside is a better option? What are you guys doing today?

I did my long 18 mile run this morning, went to the grocery store and I am hoping to do a little shopping. Tonight going to run a beer run with my running group. Enjoy your Saturday Tina.

It’s not very nice out today, so I’m watching Risky Business, petting my cats, and reading a book. And debating what I can have for dinner that will be delicious but not too sinful…

Shopping outside :) I injured my knee on my long run, Tina and decided to take today off. It IS perfect weather and it is definitely painful not to run but I know my knee needs the break!!! Good luck resisting :)

I love FSTG’s Sweet Potato Chips…they are good with cinnamon or fruit salsa. I recently tried them with TJ’s Pineapple Salsa and it was an awesome combination! I also just bought their Chocolate Flavored Chips and will be trying their suggestion of peanut butter with banana slices:) They have a coupon good until May 15th for $3 off two bags – http://www.foodshouldtastegood.com/pdf/cincodemayooffer51509.pdf

We went to the Cubs game here in Chicago today – it was perfect weather for baseball, and the boys in blue won for once too!
Afterward, we went to a bar nearby for some beers and smokey BBQ. My husband was in heaven.

Wow that takes some guts to snap a photo right in the grocery store :) And that sale at BR? I have to go there tomorrow!!
The sweet potato chips don’t taste like sweet potatoes – just regular (delicious) corn tortilla chips, so don’t go crazy searching for them. Just my opinion :D
See you tonight!

I am impressed with you both–Mal for his super-husband breakfast skills and you for your willingness to snap a picture at checkout!

I LOVE the Works chips, they are by far my favorite. They taste like an everything bagel. Although the Multigrain is a close second. The Sweet Potato (as well as Buffalo) was sort of a disappointment since the flavor was so mild. Now I am hoping to try the Chocolate that everyone is raving about!

I hope your hip feels better, but once again this is why I can’t help but want to bang my head against the keyboard and think what do you expect when you run long miles on pavement.

Those pancakes are the picture of perfection! Seriously, they are puffy, perfectly round, and cooked just right. You are sooo lucky to have a pancake master in the house ;)
