Fanatical Beauty Routines

May 13, 2009

So, I woke up super-duper early this morning to give myself a much-needed manicure and pedicure. I am attending a fancy-schmancy luncheon with my sister this afternoon, and my nails needed some serious TLC! I have a weird “thing” with my nails– they don’t necessarily need to be perfectly manicured with nail polish and all; they just need to look nice, neat, and clean.

My real obsession is taking care of my teeth! I paid for my braces (with a little help from my mom) when I was in high school, and ever since they came off, I’ve been fanatical about keeping my smile healthy. I brush 3 times a day, floss (every day), and use a fluoride paste (twice a day). You’d think I’d be cavity-free with this regimen, but genetics are not on my side! I still get cavities. :-|

Breakfast was a BIG bowl of oats. I’ve been starving the last few mornings, so I went heavy on the measurements today. In the mix: oats, banana vanilla hemp milk, and hemp protein. Surprisingly, the combo of ingredients gave my oats a sort of coconut-y flavor?

With early morning reading material (yay, organization issue! :-D ) and iced coffee with milk and agave nectar…

Haha, loving the little extra OCD-ness in this post! :P I like my nails to look neat too, but I dislike polishing them because then they’ll inevitably chip and the chips will make them look less neat! A little weird and obsessive myself. :) Can’t wait to hear about the fancy-pants luncheon!

I always put moisturizer on without fail. Can’t live without it!

I’m totally paranoid about my teeth too! I brush like it’s my JOB!

Oooh, organization issue!!! I need to get that!

Have a fabulous day!

I always have to have my eyebrows tweezed.. compulsively!

I can’t stand it when my hair is dirty….I’m just a “wash and and air dry” kind of girl (no fancy hair products), but the washing is the most important step for me! Oh, and I tried agave nectar for the first time the other day. It was delicious!

Eye brows!! I check them every single day and pluck any stray guys!

Reply

Sarah May 13, 2009 at 8:45 am

haha..I’m with the “eyebrows” group. I have to be checking them every day.

I also love nice nails, but haven’t had a chance to give myself a manicure in forever. I love the french nail kit from sally may…it works wonderfully. Maybe that’ll be my summer treat to myself…;)

Your breakfast looks especially yummy today!

I’m kind of low-maintenance when it comes to the “beauty” routine . . . let’s see, I really do prefer to have clean hair every day. And I wash my face twice a day, but that’s to keep it blemish-free. Does that count as being fanatical?

congrats to alli! I love the new Health article, too!

I think my problem is that I’m NOT obsessive/fanatical about any beauty thing – maybe that’s why I always hate my hair? :)

Waxing, and Mani and Pedi. nothing else makes me feel great after a great mani and pedi or spending the day at a spa!

I use to work for a dermatologist so I’m pretty fanatical about moisturizing and sunscreen.

I don’t know if it’s really a beauty routine but i’m fanatical about my vitamins! I think I see a real difference when I take my vitamins/supplements for a week straight versus here and there. It helps my skin look fresh, nails grow long, and hair look healthier! I highly recommend a women’s daily, fish oil, and womens hair/nail supplement!

Enjoy the luncheon….I have noticed that sometimes hemp protein gives my oats that coconut flavor.

I’m obsessive about my teeth too!! :) Luckily no cavities yet! I loved your article! Great job!

I’m crazy about my nails too, if I grow them long and one breaks I have to cut them all they have to be clean at all times and like you I’m not crazy about painting them but if I do the second one nail chips all the polish comes off.
Have fun at the luncheon.

I am prone to breakouts under my mouth and I have 4 different prescriptions that I use on my face. Three in the morning, four at night. I have to use them after washing my face. I do not let myself slack on this!

I wish I had your attitude about teeth. My boyfriend is a cardiologist and always begs me to floss more since it is beneficial to your heart. But I just never remember or am too lazy!

I’m definitely pretty crazy about my teeth, I brush at least twice a day and floss every day (okay, maybe once a month I skip it). I went ten years without going to the dentist because I didn’t have dental insurance and was a chicken. When I finally went I didn’t have any cavities! Since then I’ve been taking extra great care of my teeth because I’m so thankful that they’re healthy and I want to keep them that way!

Dori, once you start flossing you’ll never go back!!! I do it -most- nights before bed :)

I’m a skin care fanatic!! I always take my make up off no matter how late it is or what I’ve been up to, wash my face, and moisturize! I feel so gross if I don’t – it’s a must. Also, I do not and will not sun bathe!

Love your paint collection! OPI is the best nail polish brand ever.

I would be fanatical too if I paid for my braces!! (Well, we should all take care of our teeth but I see where you are coming from :-) )
I am pretty particular about my skincare (face) but I wouldn’t say fanatical. I am pretty low-key about most things.
Amazing looking breakfast!!
Have fun at the luncheon!!

Haha does digging blackheads count as a “fanatical beauty routine”? I’m a low key girl…But I bet if I friggin’ remembered to wash my face at night I wouldn’t have any blackheads to dig at! Oh well.

i just noticed your nails in a post I think last week. i like to keep the same, short trimmed and looking good. no polish on my nails.

I am pretty obsessed about using this whitening pre rinse mouth wash.

i am also enjoying some homemade body washes and cleaning with corn meal!

See the teeth issue is TOTALLY genetic. I have only started brushing my teeth twice a day recently (gross right?)–my parents from Pakistan only were taught ot do it once a day and it’s passed down genetically. But i have NEVER had a cavity nor any major health issues save for braces. My little brother on the other hand has had oral cysts and so many dental issues. It totally comes down to genetics just like weight…you have your setpoints/susceptibility issues and all you can do is environmentally try and control what you can.

The only thing I’m obsessive about it moisturizing. I can’t miss a day, I need the smoothest skin possible!

I really don’t have a beauty fanaticism, but I should. I suppose if I do have one it’s concealer. I have circles under my eyes that drive me crazy.

I need to try my hemp protein with oats, I’ve tried it with a breakfast cookie and it tasted oat but maybe the more liquid will help it be less chalky.

I just bought a one year subscription to Real Simple Magazine – I bought it as a gift for someone, so as a promotion the second subscription only cost me $5 bucks!

I always get my hair done. I’m African American and have my hair chemically straightened, so sweating from intense work outs each week is NOT great for my hair. But it’s a great reward at the end of the week to get my hair deep conditioned and straightened for the weekend!

My teeth are super important to me as well! I had braces for my first two years of college, post oral surgery, and although they were a pain in the butt, I did everything they told me to do (headgear, rubber bands, the works!) and wore my retainer for a year, all day! Now I just wear it a couple nights a week while I sleep, but I take VERY good care of my teeth…I earned them haha. I’m also pretty on top of plucking my eyebrows. They have a good shape, aren’t super thin or overplucked, but I make sure to get those strays every couple days! ;)

I also just cannot stand when my nails look bad! I usually treat myself to pedicures, because I just have no talent in the nail-painting area, but I take care of my fingernails myself since I don’t really need polish, just good, round, filed nails!

Sunscreen! I cannot stand not having it on! I’m super fair and was stupid when I was younger and let myself get burned to the point of it blistering.I felt like the Man without a Face. Now I make it a point to wear sunscreen all the time!

its all about skin care for me. i don’t really wear makeup, but i have a collection of scrubs, creams, masks, sunscreens. as long as my skin feels fresh and clean and my eyelashes are curled, i am good to go!

I’m fanatical about my hair care routine and tweezing my eyebrows. I have a lot of hair, and it turns into a frizzy disaster if I don’t wash/condition/leave-in condition/air dry it every day.

I brush my teeth after every time I eat, and use Listerine twice a day! I also ALWAYS have to put on the Proactiv daily oil control every morning, or else my face gets SUPER oily! It’s one of the few products I’ve found where I notice a huge difference if I don’t use it.

I don’t know how in the world you are able to do a mani pedi in the morning! But…maybe I can’t do it because I have an aversion to waking up! ;)

My teeth (brush twice a day, floss twice a day and motuhwash…although I have alot of cavities too), I have to clean my ears everyday (I use qtips, but I know your not supposed to!), and I have to keep my brows in check!

I’m fanatical about…nothing! I’m so lazy and I break all the rules from time to time (although I’m USUALLY pretty good about all the things the other commenters mentioned, lest you think I’m a TOTAL slob haha). I’d say the biggest thing for me is taking care of my teeth, and that’s mainly because I’m cheap and I know that taking good care of them will save me money in the long run for dental bills…but hey, whatever makes me brush + floss, right?

Teenski, I love this post because as you might know, I’m a beauty freak! Obsessed with it all! At the moment I’m super obsessed with my tanning routine, mani pedis, keepin’ the grill white and tight, exfoliating…I love it all!

I’m too lazy to be fanatical about my “beauty routine” for the most part, but I DO have a few odd things I can’t go without:

- moisturizer and lip balm!
- keeping my toe nails super short
- frequent hair trims

It seems as though I’m more willing to spend the time on something if it’s more health-related than beauty-related.

I am also kinda fanatical about my nails. I play piano so it sucks I can’t always grow ‘em out (otherwise it clacks on the keys), but I do keep them neat & play up the nail polish once a week or so :)

I’m all about keeping my teeth super clean, and my ears (weird, I know). I guess genetics are on my side though, because I’ve never had a cavity :)
