My husband and I are trying to eat less meat. Yay for yummy lentil curries!
I will bring my own bags to the grocery store.
I’m going to try to remember my reusable grocery bags more often, unplug electronics when we aren’t using them and use reusable containers at home instead of plastic storage bags
I am going to turn off my computers at night, unplug phone chargers when not actively charging (they still use power when plugged into the wall), and with spring finally here in western NY, I am riding my bike to work.
Consider using compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs). They cost a bit more than regular bulbs, but you’ll lower your electric bill and pay less in the long run — CFLs last up to 10 times longer than traditional ones. (Worried that fluorescents will fill your house with a greenish glow? That’s no longer a problem. When we compared a regular bulb with a GE Energy Star Qualified CFL, testers couldn’t tell the difference.) You can buy CFLs at most hardware and home stores. To save more on lighting, install dimmer switches and use timers, indoors and out.
i am crossing my fingers…
We bought bikes and will be riding them to avoid extra driving on the weekends- exercise and good for the environment! We also planted a small garden to get our veggies ‘locally’!
Thanks for the cool contest!
i’ve been trying to bring bags to the store when i shop. i’m also going to start bringing my sigg bottle to work instead of using coffee cups for water.
I will always bring my reusable bags grocery shopping, I will go to farmers markets more often, I will recycle more often
I am ashamed I dont already. My main goal is to only eat meat once a week although I pretty much do that already. I also am going to start trying to conserve energy by never leaving lights on, unplugging everything with large batteries, and turning my computer off every night.
I will stop using plastic bags!
I am going to walk to the store more and spend more time enjoying outdoor activities like hikes and growing veggies in my garden. Also stop buying things just to buy them.
I will use my two large insulated bags for big shopping trips to Costco or Sam’s and my cute, summery Trader Joe’s bag for a quick run to the local supermarket or farmer’s market. I will also try to ride my bike to work more often and keep recycling.
Ooooohh I LOVE Okios!!!!! hmmm…I will continue to sprint-walk my hiney across campus instead to driving like all of my fellow lazy friends AND I really want to work on unplugging all of my electronics from the wall when I’m not charging -up, and remember to turn off the lights in my room when I’m not there!!
I will take mass transit to work every day. In addition, I will shop at the local farmer’s market.
I will unplug all electronics that I’m not using, climb up a couple of flights of stairs instead of using the elevator, and switch to a hybrid vehicle when I have the money!
I am going to try to use my bike more often to substitute for driving– quick grocery trips, errands, etc.
I just bought a really nice bike, I want to start using it to bike to school and small grocery trips!
I’m going to keep recycling and am going to try to unplug my electronics more often. I tend to leave my computer plugged in all the time but I’m trying to be better about it. Also, for the summer I may try running to the gym rather than use my car.
I’m going to put my reusable grocery bags in the trunk of my car so I stop forgetting them when I go to the store! Also, I’m going to remember to unplug my chargers when I’m not using them!
A major problem I have is never completely shutting off the computer – I like to leave it on a lot or on “sleep” mode, but never off. I am most definitely striving to reduce the amount of energy I waste with that!
i will use cloth diapers for my newborn. used them on my first and now it’s time to do it again!
I think it is really important to buy local produce when available and I love to walk anywhere I can. This summer my neighboring city has a farmers market come every thursday and I have already informed my mom we would be going every thursday when possible this summer. I cant wait and I love stonyfield
I will buy more things from the bulk bins at whole foods instead of pre packaged things.
In honor of Earth Day, I pledge to ALWAYS remember our reusable bags at the house or in the car before going grocery shopping!
I love buying organic produce from our local farmer’s market and I recycle as much as I can, sometimes even neighbor’s trash.
I won’t go shopping if I forget my reusable shopping bag.
annnd
I’m getting a new car next year and will base my greener purchase byyyyy
-Comparing fuel efficiencies of the cars on the market to help make an informed car purchase.
-Checking out GreenerCars.com.
-Perusing the cash incentives for which I may qualify if you buy a hybrid vehicle.
Keep recycling and using reusable bags.
I am going to join a CSA project this summer and start bringing reusable grocery bags to the store. I am also going to try to get my family to start using less napkins and paper towels.
I am going to use my containers instead of using plastic baggies for everything in my lunch. I just started doing that this month and I not only am being green, but I am saving money too…an important thing for an underpaid teacher!
I’m going to turn off my computer at night!
and use reusable shopping bags!
As the child-in-law of a farmer, I will support him to the best of my abilities. I plan to be as helpful as possible on the farm as much as I can, and speak to others about farmers and sustainable agriculture.
I am on my company’s green committee and we had a big fair today at work- gotta love Earth Day!
My commitments for the next year are to eat less meat and shop local produce when possible.
With fresh air all around you, sun beaming down, and sounds from all reaches of life, I am going to continue my avid walking. Whether it just be a walk to the grocery store, to grab some delicious eats, meet a friend, or go to school, I plan on avoiding that word called lazy and walk, walk, walk. I also plan on continuing recycling all of my plastic silverware, washing my dishes more often than using the dishwasher, ALWAYS using paper bags and canvas ones when present, drinking tap water instead of bottled water, reminding people that smoking is NOT good for our planet, and keeping a smile on my face, because let’s be honest, doesn’t that make the environment just a little bit better?
I finally made the switch from plastic water bottles to a brita water filter and klean kanteen. So glad I did.
I’d like to start riding my bike more instead of driving. I also have reusable shopping totes, but always forget them when I go to the store! I need to make it a point to use them.
Continuing to be meat-free, use public transportation, and always have a reusable grocery bag handy for those impulse TJ’s trips!
I vow to use my totes everytime I go shopping! I brought one with me to marshall’s for clothes shopping!!!
I am going to start using reusable bags at stores and make an effort to drive less and walk/bike more.
I’m going to actually remember to bring my reusable grocery bags into the store with me, and I’m going to carpool to work instead of driving by myself!
I think there are a lot of things I can do—but since I love food and seem to always be at the grocery store I think I need to utilize my reusable grocery bags. To remember them I think I should always try to leave some in my car
I have actually become paperless! All of my bills at home are ebills & I don’t print a thing for work!
As an environmental studies major, I obviously think about these things a lot, but here is something I need to work on: acquire enough tupperware (doesn’t have to be brand new: yard sales, etc) so that I never have to use another ziploc bag again.
I just started to composte my kitchen waste. I also convinced my husband to buy a new car that gets 25% more mileage AND I drive a hybrid!
I’m going to unplug the microwave and the television when they’re not in use.
hey lady! i was reading about events for this beautiful upcoming weekend and saw thishttp ://drinkcraftbeer.com/. it talks about how eating and drinking local products reduces the shipping and therefore creates less of a carbon footprint. i already try to buy local foods whenever i can but i think ill try to hunt them down more seriously than before. luckily new england is home to many great tasty delights!
I am pledging to ride my bike to the gym instead of driving!
I am going to try to eat more organic foods! I don’t do it enough.
I’m going to make an effort to shop more at my local city market for all my fruits and veggies to support the local farmers.
I will use public transportation and continue walking to work. I will also try to use reusable shopping bag whenever possible. Since I am a shopoholic this will be BIG!
i will bring my own shopping bag when I go grocery shopping to cutdown on plastic bag usage.
I will start using the reusable grocery bags and cut down on using ziploc bags.
