Out of Hibernation

April 25, 2009

Today, the city of Boston came out of its winter-long hibernation! The temperature reached the mid-80′s this afternoon, and crowds of people were out and about enjoying every single second of it!

Mal and I strolled through Boston Common and then the Public Gardens. We soaked in the lively scene and fully appreciated the beautiful day.

Boston is so wonderful in the warm months! Today was a good reminder of why I love this city! (When February rolls around next year, remind me of this post! ;-) )

Our walk through downtown Boston led us to Newbury Street… and JP Licks. I’ve been craving ice cream for weeks now, and today was the perfect day to indulge! :-D

A lot of people had the same idea as Mal and me. The line at JP Licks wrapped around the shop and out onto Newbury Street. The line moved fairly quickly, but Mal and I still waited a good 20-25 minutes before getting our ice cream.

Obviously, the coffee cookie ice cream that I ordered was well worth the wait! It had a nice, strong espresso-esque flavor with lots and lots of oreo cookies mixed throughout. De-lish!

While enjoying our ice cream, Mal and I made plans to meet up with some friends near Fenway to watch the game and enjoy some drinks. We lucked-out and scored a table outside at Game On! Game On is located right outside Fenway– it’s the perfect place to cheer-on the Sox and people watch

While waiting for our friends to arrive, Mal and I ordered a couple of beers, which were frickin’ 8 bucks each! That’s more expensive than Fenway!

To munch on, our table split an order of nachos. I ate my fair share of them.

The guys…

Mid-way through the game, I ordered a vodka-soda with lime.

M & T…

Mal and our friends went out to the bars after the game, but I wasn’t in the mood to have a late night full of boozing. Instead, I am having a quiet night at home, catching up with this past week’s episodes of Ellen. When did I become so old!?!

How was your Saturday, blog friends?

I ran a 10K in Austin and it was really humid. I came hometown to enjoy a little of Fiesta here in San Antonio at King Williams. Then had dinner and margaritas at my favorite Mexican place Rosario’s.

I also love how city populations emerge when we have days like today. It makes me so glad to be from the Northeast- you really appreciate the nice days! It was fabulous in D.C. today- I swear, jogging past the monuments and on the Mall is unbeatable.

Glad to see you enjoyed a the lovely New England weather as well!
Here in Portland, ME we def made it a point to simultaneously cheer on the sox, drink beers, and get some sun. Many of the Irish folk in our crowd look like lobsters, but we are happy all the same because finally summer is SO close. Love your blog, and LOVE boston :)

I don’t blame you for skipping out on the boozing! And that ice cream flavor is something I would love, I’ve never seen coffee and cookies blended like that!

It was a beautiful day in NY too – unfortunately, I wasn’t in the city, but spent the day out in the sun as much as possible.

Oh those nachos look good! My Saturday consisted of four hours of shopping in the Prudential Center/Copley and down Newbury Street, a waffle ice cream cone, and meeting up with friends at Azure bar until 2 AM (we had a LOT of catching up to do!).
Today I’m off to Newport! Yay!

Yesterday was spectacular wasn’t it? Summer is when I start to actually like living in the city again after the cold cruel LONG winter. I’m so glad that today is going to be equally lovely. Off to run now :)

you became “old” when you realized being “young” was overrated ;D
I’m only 20 and i feel like i pick being “old” so much more than being “young” most days. hahaha.

I’ve spent a grand total of 12 hours in Boston (long layover) and J.P. Licks was one of the places I went – and I’m pretty sure I’ve had that same flavor of ice cream!
