Marathon Recap and Garlicky Pinto Beans

Reese, the beagle, knows exactly how I feel after today’s marathon excitement: exhausted and ready to snooze on the couch! But, first, I want to share some photos from the big race, so here’s a bunch from the day.

Downtown Boston, near Mass Ave, was packed with spectators!

As soon as the first runners came through, the crowds erupted into non-stop cheering!

We saw the women’s elite runners around mile 25. I was routing so hard for Kara Goucher (in the pink top). I wish she had won!

The men’s winner, Ethiopia’s Deriba Merga, followed behind the women just a few minutes later. He was hauling ass up that hill!

The pack of runners followed a little while later.

Runners turning onto Boylston Street… almost done!

The finish line is right around the corner!

Dinner

Tonight’s dinner was a quickie recipe from Real Simple. I swear you can’t go wrong with a fast and easy recipe from Real Simple, especially when you’re not at all in the mood to cook! For dinner, I had Garlicky Pinto Beans with a big salad packed full of veggies.

I’m feeling lazy tonight, so I didn’t snap a picture of my dinner– instead I borrowed one from the Real Simple website.

I’m off to get organized for the work week– at least it’s only 4 days! G’night, guys!

I was also cheering for Kara via the net! Too bad she didn’t win.. she looked really disappointed in the end.

By the way, do you have a recap somewhere about how you felt after your 30 day yoga challenge?? Notice any changes in your bod? Sorry if I’ve missed it somewhere!

I watched the elite runners come through Kenmore! Merga – astoundingly – did not look like he had just run 25 miles. Unbelievable.

I love the pics of the elites! That’s the one downfall to running the marathon – you miss all the excitement and have no idea who wins until much later. It was a great day to run and I’m so glad the rain held off!! Congrats to the other runners!
