Yoga Challenge: Days 12 – 15

March 16, 2009

GAAAH! I am so behind with all of your comments!!! I’m so sorry!

Please comment on your yoga practice for Days 12-15 (March 12-15) on this post. If you practiced yoga today on Day 16 (March 16), please comment on my morning post that talks about the yoga prizes. I will hopefully have my act together by this evening and we’ll be back on track again!

Happy yoga-ing!

That’s too bad about the yoga DVD-i would assumed what you did seeing a cover like that.

Again, i just stuck with Lunar Flow last night, but plan on doing my PM Yoga DVD tonight after i get home from training.

i hate when workout dvds have misleading covers like that! it’s a good thing i borrow them from the library so it’s no big loss when the instructor turns out to be creepy. i don’t like yoga dvds that are set outdoors though (like the beach, or on a cliff somewhere in new mexico) it’s too distracting for me and i find myself thinking jealous “must be nice” thoughts. haha :)

Yoga is going so well. A few days into my workshop, I was questioning my sanity in signing up for something so intense. Now that the initial soreness has worn off, and my body body is adjusting to getting up so early, I am loving it more and more everyday!

Day 12: 20min of Yoga Cardio + 20min of Core Yoga + 30min of Vinyasa Flow

Kara

I loved yoga today! I almost didn’t go, but I’m so glad that I did. We did headstands and a type of L-shaped hand stand with our feet on the wall (not sure of the name?). Yay for yoga!

Since I started the yoga challenge, I have been doing more yoga with the 2- and 3-year-olds that I teach, and they are loving it! I’ve taught them “turtle,” tree, cobra, cat curls, downward dog, chair, and have started taking them through sun salutes. I’m amazed at how well they focus when we do yoga! I haven’t pushed them past five minutes or so, but it’s been fun. This is a little selfish of me, but hearing their little voices say “namaste!” is so cute!!!

I am loving this yoga challenge – not every day is as great as I envisioned, but I can tell I’m getting more flexible each time I do it, and I let myself relax into the posture more.

first, as far as yoga goes, the biggest surprise these past two weeks has been how incredible STRONG it’s making me. i knew i would be feeling more limber and flexible, but was not expecting muscle strength (silly me). i haven’t been doing any kind of weight training during my non-yoga workouts, but i have gain a ton of upper body strength in such a small amount of time through core and detox yoga, it’s amazing. i love it! i’m a total yoga convert and now understand why it’s considered a work out (i always thought it was simply relaxing, ya right!).

Day 13 of yoga: Sadie Nardini’s 70min Yoga Cardio

sirenjess

yoga for today was 40 minutes at lifetime. It was a gentle flow class but we did a ton of chair and chatarungas. I had to leave the hour class because by 40 minutes I couldn’t take it anymore. Plus the room was really cold.

while I have been using some of the yoga poses for stretching, I haven’t been doing routines and updating your challenge as my left wrist was aggrevated and it’s been hard for me to do the routines I came to enjoy :-/ I’ll give it some time to heal and get back at it!!

Today I tried the yogadownload Sun Salutation Flow #2 again. I made it much farther this time, actually getting through the entire 30 min, although I did have to take a couple modifications at times. I also struggled to find the really fast flow. I enjoyed it though, although I still wish the guy leading it wouldn’t talk so much. He seems to have the mindset that yoga prepares you for meditation, which it does, but I often hold poses better when I’m in a meditation like state, which is hard to maintain when he is constantly talking.

I’ve been doing the Gentle Hatha I, from yogadownload, but I just did not feel up to it on Sunday the 15th.

I just have to say that I never really did much yoga before you started this 31 day challenge. Well, I have now done 15 days out of 16! I am so impressed with myself and with how much I really do love yoga! I typically am a high-strung/high-energy runner, so this isn’t like me, but I find it so relaxing and it feels great to stretch like that! I love the yoga downloads and have been using the Core Yoga & Yoga for Runners the most.

Thanks for the inspriation! Keep up the good work!

Since Thursday, I’ve been doing Gentle Hatha 1 and 2, I really think I’m ready for a longer session, I’m sure I will buy a couple before the month is over! I can tell SUCH an improvement in my flexibility. This weekend, I also went snowboarding, and I really think it helped me wiht my turning! The twists are especially helpful!

Yoga is going well, though i must admit, I’ve gotten a little bored. I took a slightly weird class at my gym Saturday that involved a lot of… holding your own toes. Which I wasn’t the biggest fan of, having taken a weight lifting circuit class right before. :) Friday night I actually left a party early (at 10:30) so I could get home and do Yoga. Yeah, I am so coo! I did “Yoga Pop,” as I called it – just did it on my own for 20 min, listening to Backstreet Boys Pandora. Last night I did my own again to Coldplay Pandora. I like doing it on my own, but I’m getting kinda bored and having to force myself, though it does feel great. I need to mix it up!

I haven’t updated in a while about my yoga, but I have done it every day! On Saturday I did a 1.5 hour ashtanga class at my local studio. Last night I did yogadownload’s lunar flow #1 with Bobby. Last week I did a lot of yogadownloads, some Sadie Nardini (youtube video – 30 mins), as well as a lot of practice on my own. Last weekend I attended my very first teacher training workshop with YogaFit and I learned SO SO much. I tried to incorporate it into my yoga this week. I have another training in about a month and I’m so excited. I’m hoping to start teaching before then though.

I’ve been doing yoga since a few weeks before the start of this challenge, and I love it! It has even replaced a few of my running workouts each week. I do yoga mainly via DVDs or free flow (aka I make it up as I go along). So I did Yoga X (90 min) on Thursday, free flow yoga on Friday (25 min), nothing on Saturday :( , and Yoga X again on Sunday. I am really enjoying the Yoga X DVD. It has ~ 45 minutes of flowing vinyasas that really work my legs, ~30 minutes of balance poses and stretches, ~10 minutes of abs, and ~ 5 minutes of relaxation. I really have noticed a difference in my arm strength since I’ve begun doing yoga earlier this month, and yesterday, I held crane pose for about 15 seconds!

Sunday, March 15! With house guests from our friends Bridal Shower Saturday and mroe plans Sunday I made myself scarce for 30min, went into my bedroom, shut the door and did 30min of power yoga! First of all I VERY MUCH NEEDED the 30 min to myself…I love my friends but man I can’t do the constant togetherness without a break haha.

I can’t remember what day we are on. I didn’t do yoga this weekend or Monday. I just gets hard so I understand what your going through. Today I did 25 min yoga for runners and I hope to do another 20 after my workout at the gym.
