Does this happen to anyone else: you are starving when you get home from work/school, but instead of waiting for dinner, you snack on everything in sight? Mal and I were both famished when we got home from work tonight, and let me tell you, we chowed down! We arrived home and immediately started pulling ingredients out of the fridge to make dinner. Along with these food items also came snacks! The two of us stood around the cart in our kitchen and munched on pitas, hummus, and wine while we caught-up on our days. After eating a decent amount of pita, hummus, and wine, we finally started making dinner.

Chowing down as soon as you get home from work/school is fine and dandy (and fun!) every once in awhile, but you don’t want to make a habit of it. Here are a few ideas to help curb the “walk in door, eat everything in sight” syndrome:

  • Pop a piece of gum in your mouth. It’s hard to snack when you are chewing away.
  • As soon as you walk in the door, throw on your sneakers and head out for an early evening walk.
  • Prepare chopped veggies and store them in your fridge ahead of time. When you are starving after work, pull out your veggies and munch while you prepare dinner.
  • Sip on a seltzer + fruit juice “mocktail” with a slice of lemon or lime; use a fancy glass. The seltzer bubbles will help you feel full while a “sophisticated” glass will remind you to sip slowly.
  • When you get home, relax in a room other than your kitchen. Check email, watch TV, read a magazine, dance to music, or practice yoga for 20 minutes. Unwinding will help you think twice before chowing down.

Mal and I made pita pizzas with green peppers and onion for dinner tonight. We each made two pitas, but Mal ate both of his tonight while I saved one for tomorrow’s lunch.

Mal and I ate dinner at our coffeetable while watching TV. Eating pizza in front of the TV is obviously the best place to enjoy it! 😉

Dessert was the usual deliciousness!

Mid-afternoon, I ran an errand in Harvard Square and the sunny weather instantly made me crave iced coffee! I had wanted a decaf iced coffee because caffeine after lunchtime tends to keep me awake at night, but Starbucks is not yet brewing decaf iced coffee. The barista on duty suggested a great alternative: an iced decaf americano, which is decaf espresso shots with water and ice. It is basically a stronger-tasting iced coffee. I added non-fat milk and cinnamon to my americano, which made it delish!

Yoga Challenge: Day 25

After my surprisingly easy 5 mile run (43:50/8:46 pace) this evening, I did 20-minutes of YogaDownload’s Core Yoga #1. Once again, this session kicked my butt, but I was in the mood for a challenge– and boy, were my abs burning by the end! But, hey, it’s going to be bikini season before ya know it! 😉 I’m considering doing a more relaxing session (Gentle Hatha or Luna Flow) before bed too. My hamstrings are incredibly tight this evening!

How did Day #25 go for you?

I’m watching Anoop sing then going to bed! Good night, blog friends!

P.S. Remember to check back for the Pure Bar Giveaway tomorrow morning!
