Varied Interests

March 21, 2009

GOOD MORNING!!! I am back to a 100%! My stuffy nose and weird fever-itchy skin thing are both completely gone! It’s a good thing because I have my “long run” later this morning: 6 miles! (I’m training for Boston’s Run to Remember.)

I think what cured me is rest, relaxation, and yoga. I did 60 minutes of yoga over the course of the day yesterday, and it made me feel so much better! The breathing was a little tricky because I was stuffed-up, but the stretching eased my achy muscles while the practice itself relaxed my mind. My Friday night ended with 20 minutes of Lunar Flow (one of my favs and perfect before bed) and some celebrity gossip! I was “lights out” by 9:45 PM.

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was egg-cellent! ;-) I whipped-up an open-faced rosemary-egg white sandwich with tomato, Swiss cheese, and sliced turkey on toasted Ciabatta bread.

I started with two slices of Ciabatta bread, melted Swiss cheese on them, and then topped with a slice of tomato, sliced turkey, and rosemary-egg whites.

For the rosemary-egg whites, I used the liquid version from the cardboard carton, a sprinkle of rosemary from my spice rack, and heated them in a fry pan.

FYI: Rosemary goes a long way! Even just a small amount really spices-up plain ol’ eggs.

With iced coffee and some early morning reading…

I also snacked on one of VeggieGirl’s delicious blondies

Surprisingly (just kidding!), I have another super busy Saturday ahead! After blogging, I’m off to run 6 miles and then I am going to attend a 75-minute yoga class. I’ve taken yoga classes in the past, but not since the start of the 31-Day Yoga Challenge. For some reason, taking a class this time seems like a big deal– probably because I’ve recently devoted so much time to yoga! Of course, I will give you a full report of my experience! ;-)

March Madness

After yoga, I’m meeting up with friends to watch some of the NCAA basketball games. I’m not sure where we are going yet, but I assume we’ll end up at a bar, drink beers, and eat pub food. Sounds like a great Saturday afternoon to me!

So, how cool is our President? The other day, I watched him on ESPN picking his NCAA Basketball Bracket. He picks UNC to win the whole tourney. We’ll see about that, Mr. Obama! ;-)

I, however, picked Louisville to win the tourney. I rarely watch college basketball, so I basically have no clue which teams are better than others, unless I consider their seeds and sometimes those don’t even mean all that much. So, the method to my madness for picking the winners are what I call: “Hot Teams.”

Hot Teams” are teams who’s colors are red, orange, yellow, or gold. So, basically, I chose my winning teams based on the color of their uniforms. In most cases, I always picked the “hot team” over the “cold team” (blue, green, purple uniforms). However, if both teams were “hot,” I picked the team that was more “hot.” For example, the BC vs. USC game: both teams have similar colors, but USC’s colors are brighter, which means to me that they are a “hotter” team. I felt a little bad routing against my alma mater, but USC won! If both teams were “cold,” like in the Duke vs. Binghamton game, I picked the team that I thought would win. In the case of 1-16 games, I picked the 1 seeds– mostly because I wanted some chance of winning the March Madness pool!

Are you into the “March Madness”?

I’m outta here! Lots to do! Happy Saturday, bloggies!

Glad you’re feeling better!

I love you color-method to picking teams. My BF and I joke that I pick the teams that have the coolest names. I didn’t do a bracket this year though so now I REALLY don’t care who wins (since um, it won’t be San Diego State, that’s for sure.)

Hi Tina! Longtime reader, not-so-good commenter here! I had to laugh, I LOVE your methodology for picking your bracket, but since I go to UNC, I’m rooting for the Tarheels to win it all, just like Obama! Too bad we’re a “cold team,” huh?! =)

What a delish looking breakfast sammy, by the way! Enjoy your yoga class too!

Despite their loss to Villanova, I’m gratified that you picked my school (American) for an upset!

That is a hilarious way to pick teams – I love it! I might apply that method to picking bottles of wine for their hot labels! Hehe. I was into it until UCLA got knocked out, and now I’m just sad. :D

Tina! My mom and I used your recipe for sweet potato fries tonight and they were so good! We decided that they tasted as good as something from a fair, but we knew that they were a lot healthier!! :)

Ps, that breakfast looks tasty!

Yay, Louisville! That’s where I live ;-) I picked ‘em too. I usually don’t get into the brackets but I did one this year and right now I have all 16 teams in the Sweet Sixteen right!
