It’s so gross outside– snowy, windy, and COLD. It’s basically white-out conditions and we’re expecting 10+ inches in Boston. I’m SO sick of winter! WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE SPRING??? GAH! (Ok, I feel a little better.
)
20-20-20
Despite the depressing and uninspiring weather outside, I managed to wake-up for an early morning 20-20-20 workout. I started with a half mile jog on the treadmill before picking it up for timed 2-mile run, which is part of my half marathon training program. I finished the 2 miles in 17:19 (8:39 min/mile). After my run, I did 20 minutes of upper body strength training with free weights and finished with 20 minutes of yoga.
Yoga Challenge: Day 2
I ended of my workout was 20 minutes of Gentle Hatha Flow #2 from YogaDownload.com. Today’s yoga session was a million times better than yesterday! When I started the Gentle Hatha Flow, thoughts of work kept creeping into my mind, but my the end of the audio class, those pesky work thoughts just rolled right by. I actually felt moments of complete mind and body stillness, which is a first for me. I really wanted yoga to go well this morning, and just a little extra focus on my end seemed to do the trick. What surprised about the Gentle Hatha Flow was that it was soooo incredibly relaxing, but when I stood up from Savasana, I felt refreshed, not sleepy. It was awe-some!
Feel free to leave your comments about Day #2 on this post. I’m still working on updating the Day #1 feedback– hopefully, I will have it compiled by the end of the day today.
Breakfast
I was in the mood for raisins this morning. Sort of weird, right?
In today’s mix: 1/2 cup dry oats, 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal, 1/2 cup vanilla hemp milk, 2 spoonfuls of Teddie chunky peanut butter, and raisins sprinkled on top. I also munched on a few raisins while waiting for my oatmeal to cook.
With my raisin-y oats, I also had some OJ mixed with water. I’m not a big juice person, but occasionally, I’m really in the mood for it!
Introducing Gato and Monet
I’m out-numbered by the male species in my home now. It’s 3 to 1!
The boys on the couch last night…
Our special visitors are Mal’s parents’ cats, Gato and Monet. Mal’s parents are headed to Paris for a week and a half, so we are cat-sitting until while they are away. I am so excited to have pets, even if it is just temporary!
Gato and Monet are so cute!

I’m sure you guys will be hearing lots more about these two guys in the coming weeks!

Hang in there with the weather and enjoy day #2 of the challenge!!
Aww cute cats
I loev you named they named the cat “gato.” Heehee
AW!!! Great kitties!!!
The weather has to break sometime… I swear!
I also can’t wait for spring!
I love your oats this morning: I was also craving raisins, so they are definitely in my bowl today!
I’m having a giveaway every week during National Nutrition Month! This week it’s a BPA-free Nalgene bottle!
Day Two for me, I’m sad to say, wasn’t quite as good as Tina’s…I did 30 minutes of the Dave Farmar Power Yoga Podcast and I just couldn’t get in the zone! So, I honored my feelings, stopped the podcast, and went out for a three mile run. I feel zen now!
I can’t believe the weather in the states – I live abroad and it’s finally starting to warm up (and if it doesn’t Thailand is just a quick hop away) so I’m thinking of y’all over there and hoping global warming gives all of you wonderful people a break!
What cute furry fellas (I do mean the cats). We have three kitties – they rule our house through a combination of aggressive adorableness and tactical hairball expectoration.
In answer to today’s question: I think about food, eating and cooking pretty much constantly.
Adorable cats! I especially like the pic of Monet… is he on top of the fridge? Cats find the strangest places to hang out
To answer the daily question: I think about eating fairly often, and I think about food in general with even more frequency. I have fun thinking up recipes and planning meals ahead of time. John sometimes gives me a hard time for planning a future meal while eating the current meal!
good morning! what cute kitties. and bring spring back, please!!
good for you for getting a workout in this morning. i wish i had gym equipment in my apt!
i think about eating alllllllll the time
I think about food pretty much every moment. Sad but true.
Those cats are adorable! I love fat tabbys!
I think about food pretty much all day long. As soon as I get up I imagine how good my breakfast will be and then on my way to work I thihk about lunch, etc. I just love food and it’s always on my mind!
I am CONSTANTLY thinking about food and what my next meal will be. Sad, but true.
You’re finally getting some of our lovely weather, I see!! Just think, you will appreciate nice weather so much more when it finally arrives! ha ha
@Lauren: Yep. He is the king of high places!
Hi Tina! I love your blog!! Just curious what training program you’re using for the half marathon?
Those kitties are sooo cute! Sorry about the snow again- I’ve about had it too! Anyway, today’s Q: I think about eating or food a lot. About an hour after I’m finished with a meal I start to think about what I’ll make for the next one. Can’t help it!
@Julie: A blog friend sent it to me. I will email it to you.
I saw the Boston weather on TV just now, yikes! Great workout, and great breakfast, that’s funny, I’m in a “raisin mood” this morning too!!
Cute kitties!
I want spring too! I’m actually sad I have a snow day today because this means MORE homework and slush forever, I am SO READY for some grass and sunshine!
The cats are adorable!
I am so sick of winter, too! It’s supposed to “warm up” here later this week (in the midwest) so hopefully warmer weather will make it out there, too.
I am always thinking about my next meal!
Answer of the day: I ALWAYS think about eating. I am a planner, so I am always thinking about the next meal to plan out!
Tina,
First off that Teddy PB looks yummy.
Today was yoga day #1 for me. We had our first class for the month at Hot Yoga Nashville’s March workshop. It was intense – 60 minutes of power yoga in heated room. I have done no yoga whatsoever for 2 weeks in hopes of healing a hamstring injury. It felt so good to be back on the mat. My hamstring is still a little stiff, but the stretches felt good. I’m still going to take it easy and keep my left leg bent in some postures instead of going straight. I need to drink more water as I got a headache during class. Might be a little dehydrated as we did a lot of sweating. I can’t wait to see how my body changes over the month.
I love food and think about eating and different meals I can put together often. I’m always trying to get creative in the kitchen.
i think about food most of the day
Cute cats!
I did the Gentle Hatha #2 today, too, but just with the pose guide. I did much better with this one today than the yoga for runners yesterday, too. Even without the audio, I actually felt relaxed and energized when I was done. Every pose felt great this morning.
Today I did another 20 minutes of Sarah Ivanhoe’s Power Beauty Sweat. So refreshing!
Gato & Monet are so cute!
Day#2 was the 20 minute “Morning Yoga” from yogadownload.com I was surprised by all the backbends, bridge & wheel poses! The instructor kept assuring us that it was a good way to wake up and start off the day. My body wasn’t feeling wheel today so I stuck to bridge and that felt good.
At the very end, there was a plow and shoulder stand section. Whenever I do either of these poses my back seizes up a little towards the end. It’s happened whenever I’ve done these poses in class as well so I need to work on making sure I’m doing everything correctly in these poses.
Otherwise, it was a good way to start my day and I feel very energized!!
1) I did 20-20-20 today, too, inspired by you also. So, I have done yoga two days in a row, go me.
2) Now I want raisins. Good thing I haven’t eaten yet, I can incorporate them.
3) We have snowy weather, too, since i moved to NC 4.5 years ago I’ve never seen this much. Reminds me of home (Connecticut)
4) The cats are SO CUTE! I’m going to go pet mine now
5) After I tell you how often I think about food: too much! I am always planning meals and next week’s grocery list and on and on!
Adorable kitties! I think about eating almost all the time, it’s bad!
snow here too! Terrible! hope it gets better soon!
I think about eating too often!!
I am a fellow Bostonian and am completely irked by the weather as well…mostly because it interferes with my running outside. I just hope it doesn’t get icy again! I think about food all the time and spend way too many hours thinking about planning meals and what’s next on my eating agenda…I can’t help it, food makes me happy.
I think about eating allllll day long haha. I’m gonna do Gentle Hatha 2 today too
Haha, looks like the kitties settled right into your place! My cat would have been hiding up until the day he was scheduled to leave!
If I’m not keeping busy, I think about eating often…however, food is often on my mind as far as recipes and things to try go. Its good I’m going to pastry school soon!
Love your cats!
I think about food way too much. What I am having for my next meal…YUM!
Love the cats! Sorry about all the snow!
I think about food and eating probably a majority of the day. Now they are not as negative thoughts..but I am stilll doing it! i have things to distract me, like school & friends, but when it gets close to meal time and i feel hungry i think about it and then its hard to get the stuff off my mind!
Yep, I’m seeing the same white snow that you are! I’m from Agawam, MA. I also can’t wait for winter to be OVER!!!
The kitties are adorable…I have two cats as well–Charlie and Madeline, and they definitely keep life interesting…
And I think about food all the time…I LOVE IT!!
Love the blog.
Kaye
I feel the same way when I’m done with yoga. Even though there are things I could do that would be a better workout I find my body and mind are so energized.
what cute kitties!!!
this am i did morning flow 1, and it went pretty well. since there were a couple of repeated sequences, I didn’t have to look at the post guide as much. some moved a little quick, but I went at my own pace! no wheel yet, but i got further than last night so there’s a step in the right direction
Alright, I have to admit: I totally slacked on Day 1 of the yoga challenge. Not for lack of motivation or enthusiasm, I just had the most hectic Sunday (believe it or not!) and could NOT find the time
So day 2 is actually day 1 for me, but I am determined to not let it happen again. I am going to kill this yoga challnge!! lol
So I did the classic Yoga for Runners (45 minutes version). It was refreshing at 5am with candle light. I also did my long run yesterday so my hamstrings really needed the stretch. I find that I am OK, even quite good, with flexibility and with zoning out and really getting into my practice mentally, but I need to work on my balance and flow (i struggled with half moon). I also forget to keep my rythm of breath..
Im excited to improve!! Im also checking out a yoga studio close to where I live today so hopefully I can go to actual classes to change things up..
yay for yoga challenge!
have a great week everyone and good luck tomorrow with day 3
Day 2 was good for me……….I woke up at 4:50 this morning and did the Gentle Hatha #1 again. I notice that I don’t really feel sore like I’ve done cardio, but sore like I’ve been stretched out. It’s definitely something I’m going to keep an eye on, as well as body changes! As far as mindfulness, I was a little anxious about being done in time to get out the door by 6 for work. I was more relaxed yesterday without feeling rushed.
QOTD: I feel like I am always thinking about food in some form! Mostly recipes and trying new things.
bummer about snow! its spring time, isn’t it?
if you’re still thinking about the nike + ipod, i just posted a review of it and the Garmin 405. just to let you know! have a good day.
oats look delicious!
oh i agree – the snow needs to end!
Hey Tina! I was curious about the running program you’re using as well. Could I get a copy? Have you ever run the Boston Run to Remember? I was thinking of signing up for that one too!
OH and about the QOTD.. I think I always think about eating! Not obsessing about it, but I love to think about new ideas of what to cook for dinner, new concoctions to try, etc… Especially while I’m exercising, thinking about the reward at the end is a great motivator!!
I’m answering your thought provoker first. I think about eating a lot. It was probably worse when I was dieting, but now that I’m doing Intuitive Eating, I still think about eating, but now it’s in terms of what I can eat vs. what I can’t eat.
I finished day 2 of the yoga challenge! I did the intermediate workout on the Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies dvd, which introduces you to sun salutations. I felt so energized afterwards. I noticed when I was doing downward dog that my wrists would hurt after a while. Hopefully it’ll get better. Beadie suggested I put less weight on my arms next time which I think I will try.
Good morning!
After the 45 minute version yesterday I did the 20 minute Yoga for Runners this morning first thing. It really isn’t a very relaxing session but I felt SO good yesterday afternoon after the session and the long run the day before. So.. since I went for another run yesterday I figured it might be good to do it again today and get some good solid running stretching in.
Half moon, is really my enemy though.
Day 2 for me: I did Namaste yoga off of FitTV. I don’t know if anyone else has ever done it before but it’s about 20 mins and it’s a series where you do one pose and then go back to starting position and then they add on a pose to the first pose and eventually you do the whole series. It didn’t have a name other than it was an advanced series. It was challenging as there were a lot of balancing poses. I had trouble with Warrier 3 and Tree pose at first but by the end i had them down and it felt good. I felt great when it was done!!
To answer the question, i think about food ALL the time. I can’t wait til breakfast, it’s my first thought in the morning. Then i think about what’s for lunch, then for dinner, then for dessert.
P.S. the cats are adorable!
yea the weather’s nasty but my classes got canceled so that was nice!
hooray for national nutrition month!
I think about food almost all the time. yeah.
It will be spring soon!!!
I think about eating quite a bit.
Way to much, I love food. I made a fab eggplant parm last night and I can’t wait to get home from the gym after work to eat the left overs. Yummy
Ohhhh yummy oats. I’m glad you liked the yoga better today!
Cute kitties Tina!!
I think about food a lot. I usually try and plan out my daily eats first thing in the morning each day because not only am I trying to lose a few pounds, it’s difficult for me to follow intuitive eating at this point, so I’d find myself snacking more than I need to be! I find that when I plan out my meals and also incorporate a lot of little snacks throughout the day, I have those to look forward to and that’s one less thing to worry about everyday! Plus I just love food (especially oats!) so I find myself daydreaming about oats a lot haha!
Happy Monday!
