Stovetop Convert and NURU Giveaway

March 4, 2009

So, guys, I might be a stovetop convert. This morning’s bowl of oats may just convert me to the stovetop method once and for all! I had a little extra time this morning, so skipped the microwave method and went straight for the stovetop.

These oats came out excellent! It is easily the best batch I have ever made. They were smooth and creamy with lots of volume. I think the key was plenty of stirring while cooking and using hemp milk instead of water.

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1/2 cup vanilla hemp milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Blueberries
  • 1 scoop of TJ’s chunky PB

Yoga Challenge: Day 4

This morning, I did a longer yoga session: Seane Corn’s Vinyasa Flow Yoga DVD (Beginner II/Intermediate I). On this DVD, there were two practice options: long form (80 minutes) and short form (40 minutes). The 20-minute audio sessions that I have been using from YogaDownload.com have been great, but I wanted to challenge myself a little more today. I’m not quite ready for 80 minutes of yoga yet, so the short form seemed like a good option. I’ve really enjoyed the slow flow yoga style that I’ve tried so far– the breathing, the fluid movements, the “flow”– especially when I am just waking-up in the morning. I also rented the DVD for free from Harvard’s Center for Wellness, so might as well give it a try! :-D

The DVD’s narrative was particularly good– although, at times, there was just too much talking. Seane Corn clearly explains the poses as you are holding them. In fact, her explanation is quite precise, which helped me make sure that I had the correct form, but all of the instruction prevented me from fully relaxing and enjoying the yoga. However, I sort of got the hang of the breathing while simultaneously moving. I wouldn’t say that the breathing came natural to me, but it’s definitely getting easier.

How was your yoga today?

I want to win! I don’t think I have ever made oats on the stovetop. I always do them in the microwave and never really like them. Is the taste really that different? I wonder why, if so.

I decided to subscribe to a month of Yoga Download! Yay! Unfortunately, I missed the part for the discount, so I’m kinda bummed :(
Anyway, I did the Gentle Hatha Yoga #1 for 45 min. This was my favorite so far, I think because it was longer and more yoga-like than the other online ones that I’ve tried. I can’t wait to download more and see what else I can get myself in to!!

those are so cool- I would love to win, but never do :-P

I am a total stove-top oatmeal person all the way. It’s such a difference. You should try cooking the blueberries in the oatmeal. I love to get them warm and squishy and then use your spoon to squeeze the juice out of them and mix it around. Not only does it taste delicious, it adds a purdy purple to your bowl :-D
