Greetings from the Café Gato Rojo! I’m using my lunch break to blog! My boss actually suggested using this time so that I don’t need to “rob Peter to pay Paul” with my time. So far, I like his idea quite a lot. I feel like a writer camped-out at a cafe with my laptop and mug of tea!
Hopefully, blogging at lunch will help me balance my work-blog life.

Once I got settled at the Cafe, I ordered a pot of genmaicha, a Japanese green tea combined with roasted brown rice. The tea is sometimes referred to as “popcorn tea” because a few grains of the rice pop during the roasting process and resemble popcorn. The tea flavor isn’t super strong, but a subtle brown rice/nutty flavor comes through nicely. And, the best part: the whole pot was $1! What a deal! Working on a college campus definitely has its perks!
Check out the inside of the Café Gato Rojo:
The Café Gato Rojo is the cheapest, tastiest fair-trade coffee, teas and speciality drinks anywhere in Harvard Square. The cafe is completely student-run and a great place to hang out, study, meet people and avoid the over-priced, corporate cafes around the Square.
I love little cafes like this– with funky artwork, good tunes, mismatched dishes, and a laid-back vibe. I have a feeling that I will become a regular here!
Lunch
I broke into my lunch around 11:30 today. My stomach starting growling around 10:30, so an hour later, I was more than ready to eat! I started with carrot sticks and grape tomatoes.

And then moved onto a tuna salad sandwich from one of the dining halls on campus.
The tuna was mixed with chopped celery and served on the grainiest whole wheat bread ever. I love thick, grainy bread! Heaven!

The tuna looks delicious. That is so interesting your boss suggested that — when did you tell him about your blog?
@Dori: In my interview! It was so hard hiding my blog from my boss at my old job. The blog is such a HUGE part of my life, I wanted him to know that it is important to me to make time for it.
Very fun! Love the new lunch time set up
Aw I LOVE little cafes like that! They’re so relaxing!
that cafe looks so cool! glad you found a good place to blog during the day
That is great that your boss encourages you to blog during lunch! I spend my whole work day on blogs but my boss has no clue

Hooray for more blogging!!
That’s so cool your boss suggested this. I was thinking of taking a day off working out during lunch tomorrow and I would LOVE to blog instead (not at work though!). Maybe I should find a cute little cafe with internet near me…

GORGEOUS lunch!!! you’ve got such detail going on that sandwich. it is so much easier to split up the posts through out the day than just do one or two … but it’s so hard to find the time! glad you’ve got a new system
Great to have you back at lunch
yay- glad your boss came up with this great idea. i can’t believe that tea is only $1- how cool!
I’m so happy you’ll be posting during lunch I’ve missed your lunch time posts.
oh i am so excited tina! that is fab news!!!
yay for lunch time blogging again!
Three cheers for fair trade coffee!
I absolutely love working in coffee shops with my laptop!
That looks like such a cute café, I love how it’s run by students too. I can just imagine the nice vibe there. I have a favorite café in the US that I always visit when I am there visiting my grandparents. It’s really cool, laid back and a place I could definitely spend HOURS and HOURS in. There’s always young kids working there and a ton of various and sometimes strange and random people passing through. I miss that place. It’s called Spot Coffee.
ah I love my campus coffee shops!!! they are so cute and cozy, I love studying or doing homework there on the weekends……although I still will always love my starbucks!
i love quaint, small little cafes, too! so much more personal, it seems.
and oh – i LOVE genmaicha. SOOO addictive!
Little, local campus coffee shops like that are the best. I practically live at mine! And that tuna does look great!
Great sandwich!
That bread!! It’s amazing!!
I love little shops like that – I wish we had more of those around here!
I work on a college campus, too and I love when you feature Harvard! Do you follow any other bloggers who work at/blog about their jobs on a college campus?
That cafe is so cute. I always loved my student run on-campus coffee place. Awesome indie music and wicked colour flavours. I’ve always had a love affair with Harvard, so it’s so nice having you show so much of it to us! Thanks Tina!
It’s official – I’m craving a tuna sandwich like no tomorrow now.
That cafe looks very cute. Glad you’ll be able to balance the blog/work load better! Balance is key!!
@Samantha: I don’t. Why do you ask?
I love those thick, hearty, grainy breads too! There’s no other way to eat ‘em. If your gonna eat bread, go for the best
And to think that there’s those ‘light’ bread imposters…
I’ve been looking for blogs that include life on a college campus (as a professional), either as the feature topic, or as part of another focus, like yours. I didn’t know if you had already found some!
@Samantha: I haven’t found any, but please let me know if you need any help from me!
Indeed cool story u got here. It would be great to read a bit more about such theme. Thank you for giving this material.
