A Thrift Shop Find

March 17, 2009

It was such a gorgeous day in Cambridge today– I just had to go out for a walk! The weather wasn’t that warm, but it was bright, sunny, and beautiful! Spring is coming!

On my walk through Harvard Square, I stumbled about this Thrift Shop sign:

I grew-up shopping in thrift stores and consignments shops, so even now, many years later, they still have a special place in my heart. Plus, you never know what you are going to find! I love exploring these little shops, especially for funky, one-of-a-kind dishes, home goods, and accessories.

I followed the sign’s arrow down this cute little street:

Then I arrived at this second sign:

And just a few seconds later, I arrived at the front door of the Thrift Shop:

Inside the shop was all sorts of treasures: baskets, dishes, table linens, books, videos, clothing, shoes, handbags, small appliances, craft supplies, etc. This tiny Thrift Store had just about everything you could think of!

After purusing the store for about 20 minutes, I left with a $0.50 bud vase. Sweet! :-D

Dinner

Mal and I tagged-teamed dinner tonight: he cooked paninis while I made salads. Mal called himself the “Panini Prince” while I was the “Sultan of Salad.” (He is such a nerd sometimes! ;-) )

To the salad greens, I added grape tomatoes, carrot sticks, and sliced strawberries.

I topped my salad with balsamic vinegar. I love salad greens, strawberries, and balsamic vinegar together. It’s such a delicious combo of flavors!

Mr. Mal prepared mozzarella, tomato, and garlic paninis on sliced, olive oil-brushed French bread for the two of us.

Mal really loaded on the cheese tonight!

Check out my new bud vase! Perfect for a single daffodil!

I love thrift stores! You never know what you’re going to get! I’ve gotten almost new gap jeans for $2 and beautiful old tea cups to add to my collection. They’re so much fun!

The meltiness on those sandwiches look amazing! I adore melted cheese!

Yum! Have you ever marinated strawberries in balsamic and black pepper? Add a bit of brown sugar, as well, and it’s heavenly. Pour them on a salad with goat cheese and bacon and mmmm mmm.

Love that you went to a thrift shop! I have a post on them in the works – they’re not only cheap (great for this economy) but great for the environment. There’s way too much stuff (most of it “made in China”) in this world already!

Mmmm, cheese! All hail the prince! :)

Balsamic vinegar on strawberry salads is the best! My fave combo: spinach, sliced strawberries, walnuts, and feta topped with balsamic vinegar! It is a tasty, colorful, and filling salad!
