7 Miles and Fruit, Nuts & Seeds

March 27, 2009

Guys, I ran 7 miles this morning!!! I feel so accomplished! What a great feeling!

Unfortunately, however, I had to do my “long run” on the dreadmill this morning. I know that I said I would never do a long run on a treadmill again, but the weather outside was frightful this morning– dark, rainy, windy, and cold! Yuck! The thought of running 7 miles outside was not at all appealing!

Overall, my 7 mile treadmill run was pretty good. Luckily, I was able to watch TV, so I didn’t get that bored. And the best part about my run was doing it pain-free! I can’t remember a time that I’ve run more than 6 miles without my hips hurting me– during and after the run. I honestly think all of this yoga I’ve been doing lately has helped keep my joints and muscles strong and limber. My goal is to train for the half marathon without getting injured, so let’s hope this continues!

Fruit, Nuts & Seeds

We are all out of fresh fruit, so I opted for a healthy combination of add-ins to my morning bowl of oats: dried fruit, nuts, and seeds.

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • Raisins
  • Walnuts
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter

Oats with iced coffee and morning reading material…

I recently subscribed to Body + Soul magazine after reading a couple of issues at the gym, and I have to say, I LOVE this magazine! Its topics include whole health, green living, eating well, and fitness. It’s all my favorite topics in one magazine! Imagine if it had PUGS in it too!? ;-)

Speaking of those special little creatures, check out today’s Pug of the Day! So cute! I love the curly tail!

BEYOND fabulous run, breakfast, calendar, BODY + SOUL magazine (love it)…

I’d want to have the ability to become invisible – that’d be fun! :-D

CONGRATS on 7 miles! that’s def a confidence boost and a feel good finish. you’ll def be able to train for the 1/2 marathon pain free if you can run 7 miles with no problem. just bump it up every week (go slow if that’s more comfortable– add .5 miles each week or 1 mile if you want)= i also super recommend step-back weeks which are mostly found in marathon training schedules but i think help hold my mental sanity together– if i work REALLY hard for two weeks, take an easy week for sure! :)

LOOOOOVE body and soul magazine. i can get copies at the watertown library, how awesome is that! (except i can’t cut them up, hah).

super power would definitely be to be anywhere in the world just by closing my eyes. i would spend weekends in italy, afternoons in rhode island (after my move) and visit a new place each month.

7 miles?! Sigh, maybe someday. I’m impressed when I can just jog 1.5/2 miles. Of course this is only my second week. LOL

I’ve never actually picked that magazine up before. I’ll have to check it out!!

Super power? The ability to change the world and make it a happier & healthier place!! :D

Have a great day!!

lucky you. yoga has made my arms more toned but has definitely NOT helped ease the pain in my knees/hip when I run more than 5 miles.

Good question! I would love to read minds or eat whatever I want without gaining weight!

My super power would be teleportation. A lot of the people I care about the most (family, bf) live far away from me and I would love to be able to see them instantly without having to worry about the cost of travel or the time it would take to travel.

Reading minds… and predicting the future :)

I’d love to be able to teleport… or be invisible… or both!
Great oats :)

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! I have to run 7 miles on Sunday for my training and it’s supposed to be raining all day, which means I’ll probably end up on the treadmill…which I’m really not looking forward to!

Congratulations on your long run! That’s such a nice feeling. I’m hoping the weather will turn nice so I can run outside, but it’s only 23 degrees right now and I left my gloves in New York!

Haleigh March 27, 2009 at 11:38 am

Congrats on the long run! I bet it felt great! I just started running and I feel awesome after running for 30 minutes without stopping to walk :)

Great run! I bet it is the yoga that is making a difference :) I love all the hip-opening stretches.
I think my super power would be the ability to fly. It’s not original but c’mon, how COOL would it be?!

Michelle Hisae March 27, 2009 at 12:04 pm

I’m definitely participating in Earth Hour. I think it’s such a great idea – everyone can and should do it!

I totally agree about yoga helping with running. I notice a BIG difference when I run after not having done yoga for a few days or a week. It’s a runner’s best friend!

Congrats on your long run at the gym! That’s very impressive you were able to do 7 miles on a treadmill, I’ve only done one long run on a treadmill and I thought I was going to die from boredom! I’ve even ran in the rain, snow, etc., just to avoid the treadmill lol.

My super power would be teleportation and mind reading!

Way to go on the run!!
When I was little I realllly wished I could be another person for a day, just to see how they see the world. I think it’d still be pretty cool :-)

So the pastor at my church is known for saying things that some might take as inappropriate but he miraculously gets away with it. A few Sundays ago he was talking about PowerHour and asking people to join in on it. Then he goes, “And in 9 months, our nursery will be packed!”

Hahahaha

That is SO awesome!!! I’m jealous…7 miles seems terrifying to me still at this pt! WHen is your half-marathon! Also-did you eat your breakkie b/f or after you ran that??? I’m really struggling to figure out how much time I should wait b/w eating and running b/c I really don’t do well w/o a solid breakfast.

I’ll be participating in Earth Hour tomorrow evening! It’s a big deal here (in Sweden). The newspapers have been writing about it and everyone knows about it. A lot of people participated last year. Even the castle is going lights out for Earth Hour! It’s a great statement and I’m excited for it. Imagine how cozy it’ll be, no lights, just candles and company! :)

If I had a superpower… hmm, flying maybe? Or healing? Healing would be a great superpower because then I could heal the people I love if they ever get hurt.
