Sunday Oats and Pave Your Lane

February 8, 2009

Good morning, blogland!!!

I woke up SO early today! I just wasn’t in the mood to sleep. I laid in bed for about 10 minutes, debating whether to stay in bed or get up. My body and brain felt well-rest, so I started my Sunday at 7:00 AM. I also wanted to get a head-start on blog stuff for the upcoming week. (I spend a good part of Sunday morning preparing posts.)

After catching up with a my DVRed episodes of the Real Housewives of Orange County, it was breakfast time. I started with half of a juicy ruby red grapefruit

And, then I enjoyed a lovely bowl of honey-flavored oats, topped with trail mix and a scoop of Barney Butter (not pictured).

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp trail mix
  • 1 scoop of BB

Together with iced coffee…

Pave Your Lane

I recently read about a young woman who is running across the country by herself– from Boston to San Diego– and I just had to share the story with you guys.

Katie Visco will begin her 3,200-mile run next month, and she hopes to reach the Pacific coast in December. Katie will jog 20 miles a day in stages and meet up each night with a team member driving a van with a bed inside. All of her running will help support, Girls on the Run, a charity that empowers young girls through running. When Katie completes her goal, she will be the youngest female ever to run solo across America! How cool is that!? Definitely check out her website: Pave Your Lane. (You can also follow her on Twitter: twitter.com/paveyourlane.) Katie is quite an inspiration for following your dreams– I feel like I need to set a goal now!

Major Locations en Route: Boston (START), New Haven, New York City, Allentown, Cleveland, Toledo, Gary, Chicago, Iowa City, Topeka, Albuquerque, Phoenix, and San Diego (FINISH).

Hey Tina, new commenter here :D I love trail mix in oats! Always makes the bowl so much more colorful and tasty. I can’t stand the bitter aftertaste of grapefruit, though, unfortunately… :(

Wow, that is an amazing goal. Wish I had the motivation (and physical capacity) to do a run like that.

Hehe, did you go back for the Barney Butter even though you didn’t plan on it? I almost did the same thing but resisted. I can’t just have one spoonful of BB – that stuff is seriously addictive!! Enjoy your Sunday :)

Oh my gosh 20 miles a DAY!?? Yikes! That is crazy. I would be so injured if I did that.

Love your morning oats :) I thought for a second that you had a Honest Foods Farmer’s Trail Mix bar crumbled on it!

Hi,
I know that this post is really late, but I was just wondering how you eat your grapefruit?? I know that some warm it and put sweetner on it, what do you do??

Reply

Tina March 22, 2009 at 5:28 pm

@Lindsay: I eat my grapefruit straight-up– no warming, no sweeteners. I want a grapefruit now! :)
