Stuffed to the Gills at the Border Cafe

February 12, 2009

Last night, I met my friends, Blain, Stephanie, and Dean, at the Border Cafe in Harvard Square for dinner. I love, love, love Border because the food is delicious, the service is fast, and the price is right, but it’s one of those places that you can definitely over-do-it in the calorie department!

As always, shots of the decor…

We sat downstairs, which is dimly lit, quaint, and cozy.

So, here’s where I really over-did-it…

Within minutes of sitting down at our table, our server brought us a basket of warm, greasy, salty tortilla chips. Of course, they were heaven served in a basket, and I ate about a million of them!  Once I started, I just couldn’t stop! GAH!

You’d think after mowing-down on tortilla chips, I had ruined my dinner. But, somehow, I managed to eat half of a huge veggie quesadilla as my entree.

Needless to say, I left Border feeling stuffed to the gills and a little disappointed in myself. Ugh, I hate that feeling! I suppose over-eating happens every now and then, so there’s no point in getting down on myself, right? I have a hot date with the gym tonight, so hopefully, that will make me feel better.

Minus the pigging-out part, seeing my old coworkers was such a fun time! I loved hearing about all of the office drama that I am missing. I am so happy that I no longer have to deal with it! :-D

Don’t be too hard on yourself!! You’re a great model with your exercise and overall eating patterns. I find your blog to be so true-to-self- squeezing in gym time among work and errands; hanging out with friends; just skipping the gym sometime to hang with your man (like me!); and when you get home from work, eating something that doesn’t take 40 minutes to bake. Also, taking full advantage of all good eats Boston has to offer. Basically, a REAL person. It’s so refreshing.

I agree, don’t get too down on yourself. You seem to have one of the healthiest relationships with in all of blogland. Life happens and you display that so well!

Eh, it happens to the best of us – and usually when it involves hot, greasy tortilla chips!

Looks like a fun place!

Oh man, seeing that brought me back to my years at BC! I miss Harvard Square.

I think the amount of fun you had last night made up for a little indulgence. Everyone has a food weakness, but for a person like you who eats healthy, it’s worth it!

i always seem to over-indulge on mexican food. the chips and salsa, or worse, queso, get me every time. its all their fault, of course.

I love reading your blog because it really inspires me to make my meals more healthy!

I’m a Texan but I lived in Boston for a couple of years. I went to HGSE and then I worked in educational publishing in Cambridge. I used to go to Border Cafe to satisfy my Tex-Mex cravings, and it brings back great memories to see your pictures of it!

Tina,
Don’t feel bad – we’re ALL powerless to the charms of the Border Cafe chips/salsa – they’re just so thin and crispy and yummy! (ok, I might have to go this weekend).

Try the Cajun food next time – Eggplant Royale is AMAZING!
