Winding Down

January 15, 2009

Today’s the first day that my time at my job feels and looks like it is truly winding down. I’ve been wrapping-up my responsibilities for the past 2 weeks, but today, I finally cleaned out my desk and organized my space for the next person, so now it looks like I am really leaving. It’s strange to think on Tuesday morning (we have MLK day off) that I will take the T to a different office, sit at a different desk, talk to different people, and have different responsibilities… I’m ready for it though!

Okay, onto to lunch!

Lunch was leftovers from last night: mac & cheese + ground turkey + crushed tomatoes.

Lunch was equally as tasty as it was last night! :-D

(P.S. These photos were taken with my new and improved camera! I’m so happy to have it back! The Geeks replaced the entire lens on it, and now it works great!)

Lunch concluded with a couple of sweet treats: a chocolate truffle and a “no fun” mocha. I felt no fun ordering my mocha with non-fat milk, no caffeine, and no whipped cream. But even without those extra goodies, it was still decadent, and I was totally craving chocolate so it hit the spot!

My afternoon snack is SO Delicious soy yogurt, which is my newest obsession (review coming soon!) with Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal. I haven’t tried the Cinnamon Roll flavor yet, but I loved both the Vanilla and Blueberry flavors!

Starting a Food Blog? Find a Niche

Food blogs are evolving, and writers such as Kalyn Denny have found their niches. Low-glycemic recipes helped to earn kalynskitchen.blogspot.com the Well Fed Network’s best-themed food blog in 2007, and it looks like the site is up for similar accolades this year.

Lunch Break Becomes a Quick Nibble at the Desk

Hour-Long Lunch Break a Thing of History, Claims New Research

The hour-long lunch break is history, according to new research from contract foodservice provider Compass Group.

Do you eat your lunch at your desk?

At my current job, I almost always eat lunch at my desk, which I think is a horrible habit for me. I’d prefer to eat lunch away from my desk while taking a break from my work, but none of my coworkers take “lunch breaks,” so I always felt weird doing so. My resolution for my new job is to get away from my desk for lunch– preferably most days of the week.

Don’t Forget to Vote!

I’m still trailing in the voting, but I think we can still win! http://boboli.gwbakeries.com/football/enter.cfm

P.S. I love reading about all of the risks you guys have taken in your lives! You’re so gusty! :-D

I am a total desk slave! I never leave this damn thing, I swear I always say Im going to actually get up and get away but I never do, i always end up busy and by the time its even close to me being able to get up and break away its time to go. Alas I eat at my desk….breakfast and lunch. As soon as the weather breaks I am definitely not going to do this, walking for 30 minutes outdoors sounds waaaaay better to me!

I have been voting for you daily, although I feel a little guilty not supporting my hometown. The Pittsburgh Pierogie Pizza is already on at least one menu in town, so I think it is too much of a copy cat recipe!

Good luck Tina!

I LOVE that Cinnamon Roll yogurt. I thought it would taste very cinnamon-y before I tried it but then it turned out to have this amazing buttery flavor to it as well. YUM!

I eat lunch at my desk everyday! My job can get crazy, so I always feel like I have to be accessible at all times. I try to take a break from work though and read blogs/answer personal e-mail/etc.

If my office is located in a building with a decent gym, then I LIVE for my lunch breaks and use that time to get a workout in.

If my office is nowhere near and gym no opportunity for one, then I prefer to work my 8 hrs straight through. I brown bag it ALWAYS so its a waste of my time if I can’t go to the gym…I have nothing to do for an hour…..thats just me.

Mmm….I LOVE “no fun” coffees :)

My favorite weekend treat is a non fat peppermint mocha with half the amount of syrup they normally put in. Yum!

I do eat at my desk, but my husband comes by and eats with me just about every day. We do try to run errands at lunch just to get some air, though.

I am actually forced to be away from my desk for an hour. A security guard is scheduled to sit there for me so I do not have the option of staying. I try to get walking outside but lately it is too cold and I just get bored during the hour!

P.S. Now I want a mocha coffee and truffle! Yum!!

I always eat my lunch at my desk, but I don’t have a problem with it. I figure there’s nothing else I would be doing with my time anyways, so why not eat here? Then I can bank extra time to take off later as well :D

I usually eat lunch at my desk while I work, but then I take my hour lunch break later. During my break, I’ll go to the park and read, walk around, run errands or just get outside and away for a bit. :)

Ooh I’m going to have to give So Delicious soy yogurt a try -I can’t find Yo Soy yogurt anywhere anymore, so this sounds like a good replacement!

I am lucky enough to go home for my lunch every day :)
I take a whole hour (and maybe 10 minutes) enjoying my lunch at home with my friends on One Life to Live. If for some reason I can’t get home or am at a satellite office I eat at my desk and surf the net.

Isn’t that yoggie kinda pricey?

Reply

Tina January 15, 2009 at 3:51 pm

@Jennifer: Nope, 2 for $1, which is why I decided to try it.

Your lunch looks so good! that’s a great idea. I will be trying this one. Did you use the cheese mix that comes with the shells?

Reply

Marian January 15, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I do the same thing at my job. I totally could take a lunch but just eat while I work because everyone else does that! It’s a bummer

Jen January 15, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Tina your lunch looks SO great!! love the idea!

I havent seen that cinnamon yogurt, I have to keep my eyes peeled now, as I have an obsession with cinnamon! :D

As much as I hate it, I eat lunch at my desk too. Actually, now that I think about it, I almost always eat every meal except dinner at my desk. Kind of sad!

Good luck with the new job!! That is so exciting!!

I tend to make the effort to go up to the lounge to eat lunch most days. I usually need the interaction with people at least sort of my own age!

Is it bad that I knew exactly what your drink was without reading your description? 6 years of being a barista made me a slave to the cup markings!

Gotta love those geeks ;) They always fix my electronics so they’re like new!

Thankfully I don’t, and will never have, an office job so I won’t be tied down to my desk! That was really important to me – I could never sit at a desk all day!! Kudos to all of you who do though :)

I always eat at my desk on weekdays, although I usually spend my lunch break at the gym so I can’t complain :) Today, though, I didn’t go to the gym, but I still ate at my desk and worked through the break. Oh well!

Good luck with your new job! I’m sure it will be well worth the move. :D

I love So Delicious yogurt! It’s so creamy! Have you seen that they also have a line made of coconut milk? It’s more expensive, but it’s nice for the occasional treat :)

I love the “no fun” mocha!

I usually eat at my desk too. When it was warmer, I’d try to get out and walk around the city some, but now I just stay in my office.

I have tried many soy yogurts and never have been a huge fan of them, however, So Delicious Soy Yogurt was one of the best of the brands. I don’t like the flavor ones though ’cause I just feel like it tastes too much like plain soy trying to be covered up by a fruit taste. I do like the plain though, ’cause I find the soy to be it’s own flavor. AND the Cinnamon Bun is quite good too. =)

I like the So Delicious Soy Vanilla Ice Cream too!
