Wide Awake Before the Sunrise

January 18, 2009

Good morning, bloggies! I’ve already been awake for hours! At 6:15 this morning, my eyes popped opened, and I was WIDE awake! It being Sunday morning, I desperately tried to go back to sleep, but my body was ready to start the day. Why does that happen?!? I wish I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at that hour during the work week!

I started my day with a mug of coffee in my new HSPH mug, which (after some firsthand experience) is not microwavable-safe! I thought the gold trim was just paint, but it started sparking in the microwave!

After brewing a pot of coffee, I puttered around the apartment for a few hours before making breakfast around 9:00 when my stomach finally started to growl. I made a lovely bowl of oats, wheat berries, walnuts, and raisins with a scoop of peanut butter.

New Gym?

Mal and I are planning to try out a new gym this morning. While we have a gym in our apartment building, it’s nothing special. Quite a bit of the equipment is old (and broken!) and it’s often pretty crowded. Plus, Mal and I are hoping to become gym buddies. We hope joining a gym together will motivate one another to exercise. I’ve heard both good and bad things about this specific gym, so we’ll see how our tour goes this morning. Full report later.

Enjoy your Sunday!!!

What good is a mug that is not microwave safe?! For heaven’s sake! At least the gold rim is pretty …

I have tons of mugs that aren’t microwave safe, it gets me so mad! Why even make mugs that way?

At least when you wake up early, you can be productive if you need to :) Good luck trying out a new gym today, can’t wait to hear about it!

hey Tina! I’m new around here, but I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and I absolutely love it! That’s hilarious about your mug because I had the same thing happen to me with a plate with a gold rim. The problem was, those were the only plates my roomies and I had in the apartment, so whenever we had a guest over who tried to innocently microwave something on a plate, we had to stop them! Hope you have a great day, and enjoy the new gym!

Tina, yay for that leg workout you put the links to last week – with the elvis plie squat thing and the curtsy lunges? I did it two days ago and my legs are STILL sore. Thanks! I am going to integrate those moves into a regular workout routine for a while, I’ve never done any of those things before. Thanks again!

Good luck finding a gym!
I woke up at 6:15 to eat almost the same breakfast (cranberries instead of wheat, almonds instead of walnuts and didn’t think of peanut butter – thanks for the tip!) and went off in the snow around 8:30 to get to my spin class. AM classes are great motivation for getting to the gym when I’d rather sleep in :)

My hubby and I work out together in the mornings before work. It is nice because we definitely help motivate each other, and we get to spend some extra quality time together. My favorite part is talking about our crazy dreams on the way to the gym. ;p

I love when Hubs and I get to work out together, though now its not very often. We did have a date night a month or so ago when we just went to the gym and played around together. It was the best!

I hope you find a good gym, its important to go to one that you like!

Good luck with the gym today. I love going to the gym with my boyfriend it makes the time go so much faster. If one of us doesn’t want to go it’s so easy to suck it up for the other person. Hope you like it.

I have a question for anyone that can answer, is it okay to eat peanut butter right now? I heard about the scare and they said to stay clear of all PB until they figure out the source. I love PB and just want to be safe, especially since I am making my mom a PB birthday cake in two days! YIKES!

Hi Kirsten, I hadn’t heard that the Salmonella outbreak was linked to peanut butter, so I went to the FDA website to check it out. As of now it looks like the focus is on Peanut Corporation of America and peanut butter distributed in bulk & in products (current recall items are listed). Check out the FDA website:

Bree,
Thanks so much for the information! I appreciate it! =) I guess my Skippy Natural isn’t on the list. Still kind of scary though! Thanks again!

I’ve done that with a few mugs, too. It doesn’t make any sense to make a mug that can’t be microwaved!

We work out at the BSC. Some locations are a LOT better than others. The Central Square one is in a basement, while the Davis one has floor-ceiling windows. Shop around, and good luck.
